Student card.

Task 1

Give a talk about your school.

Remember to say:

  1. what your favorite school subjects are
  2. if you get a lot of homework
  3. if you get on well with your classmates

You have to talk for 1,5-minutes.The examiner will listen until you have finished. Then he or she will ask some questions.

Task2

You play the part of a newcomer to a new school. The rules at school are different from yours. You don’t know where the canteen is. You don’t know the time-table. You come up to a boy Sam by name and find out the following:

  1. Ask Sam how long  the breaks are.
  2. Ask Sam where the canteen is.
  3. Answer the questions about your school.
  4. Offer your help in preparing for the New Year party. Give reasons.

You begin the conversation. The examiner will play the role of Sam.

 Remember to:

  1. Mention all four aspects of the task.
  2. Take an active part in the conversation and be polite.

Warm up

What school do you study in? Do you like it?

Task 1 ( 2,5 – 3 minutes)

Let the student talk for 1,5 – 2 minutes.

Ask only those questions which the student has not covered while giving his/her talk:

  1. What extra classes do you attend?
  2. Are you for or against school uniform?
  3. Who is your best friend at school?

All these topics must be covered.

Finally, you must ask each student the following questions:

  • Why have you chosen English for your exam?
  • What English speaking country would you like to visit. Why?

Skills to be tested:

The student is expected to demonstrate his/her ability to:

  • Speak at length elaborating a topic
  • Produce coherent utterances
  • Give reasons
  • Use accurate grammar structures and a good range of vocabulary appropriate to the context and function.

Task 2 ( 2-3 minutes)

You play the part of a student at a certain school. A Boy/girl comes up to you and asks some questions about the school routine and you stop for a chat.

  • If asked for a favor, agree to answer his/her questions
  • Ask some questions about his or her former school
  • Тell him/ her about the coming New Year parties for younger students in your school and invite him or her to participate.

Skills to be tested:

The student is expected to demonstate his/her ability to:

* Accept/ reject invitations

* Maintain and conclude the conversation

* Be active and polite

* Ask for information

* Provide the information required


Sample conversation:

Student: Hello, Sam!

Interlocutor: Hello!

S: Look, Could I ask you for a favour?

I:Yes, what is it?

 S- You know, I`m a newcomer and I don`t know some simple things about your school.

 I -What exactly would you like to know?

 S- Can you tell me when the lessons begin, how long they last and mostly I`m interested in the breaks. Do you have 15 minutes or 20 minutes breaks?

       I: You see our school day starts at 8 am and the lessons last 40 minutes. It`s a pity but the breaks   are shorter then you think.

They last only 5 minutes.

S - Oh, then when and where can I have my meals?

I – After lessons you can go to the canteen upstairs. You can get hot lunch and buy mineral water and sweets, if you want. It’s a pity the breaks are too short.

 And what about your former school?

S – We had two 15 minutes breaks and we had enough time to have meals and to revise our homework. And what about school parties?

 New Year is coming.

I – Every year we organize a Now Year party for small boys and girls in our school.

S - Oh! I enjoy playing on the stage. I can play the piano, dance and sing. Can I take part in the show?

I – It’s a great idea. Meet you in the Assembly hall tomorrow at 2 p. m. And we will talk about everything.

S – Ok, see you tomorrow.

I - Bye.

Task 1.

Imagine that you have received a letter from your American pen-friend  and you want to read the extract from it to your friend. You have one minute to read the text silently, and then be ready to read it out aloud.

Let me tell you about my friend.

     His name is David Hansel. He is a fifteen-year-old American boy born in Alpharetta. He still lives in Alpharetta, which is a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia’s capital. He lives in a house in a small, quiet, neighborhood with large backyards.

He attends school at Fellowship Christian High School, a private school near his home, where he is in the ninth grade. He studies Algebra, Science, English, History, and Spanish. He also takes courses in Physical education and computers. His favorite subject is History.  He is fascinated by the development of history and the actions of ancient people.

The things he most likes to do in his free time are to read and play sports.

Task 2.

Study the photo

Your younger brother is going to the first form next year and you’d like to get more information about the school. In 1,5 minutes  you are to ask 5 direct questions to find out to following:

1)Time the lessons start

2) If uniform is worn

3) If meals are included

4) Extra – curricular activities

5) School camp

You have 20 seconds to ask each question.

 Task 3.

Imagine that while surfing the Net you found 3 photos. Choose one photo to present to your friend.

  

You will have to start speaking in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more then 2 minutes (12-15 sentences). In your talk remember to speak about:

1.When and where you found the photo

2.What / who is in the photo

3.What is happening

4.Why you chose this photo

5.Why you decided to show  this pictures to you friend.

You have to talk continuously, starting with: “ I’ve chosen photo number…

Task 4.          

               Study the 2 photographs

 

In 1,5 minutes be ready to compare  and contrast the photographs:

1)Give a brief description of the photos( action location)

2)Say what the pictures have in common  

3)Say  in what way the pictures are different

4)Say which of  the time-spending you’d  prefer

5)Explain why

You will speak for not more than 2 minutes ( 12-15 sentences). You have to talk continuously.
