Big Ben is the nickname of the great hour bell inside the Clock Tower at the north-eastern end of the Houses of Parliament. People commonly apply the name of Big Ben to the Clock Tower. The bell and clock were installed together in 1859. The are several theories for the origin of the name , the most popular being that the bell was named after the commissioner of works – Sir Benjamin Hall. BIG BEN
