Important Dates 1826 - the Zoological Society of London was founded. 1828 - a collection of animals was opened in Regent’s Park. 1830 - the collection of animals was enlarged very much. 1847 - the Zoo was opened to the public. 1850 - Russia presented bison and other animals to the Zoo. 1853 - the first Aquarium was opened. 1880 - animals from Australia arrived. 1932 - tropical animals appeared in the Zoo. 1938 - it became first children’s Zoo.

A giraffe is an exotic animal. It is the tallest animal in the world. It can be 6 or 7 meters high. It is yellow with brown spots. The giraffe likes to eat acacia very much.

An elephant is the largest animal. It has large ears and tusks. Its nose is called a trunk. It eats grass and green leaves (about 400 kilos a day).
