I am Alice. I am in my sitting room at home, talking to my teacher on the radio. Yes, I am at school!

I live in the middle of Australia, a long way from any towns or cities, so I belong to the School of the Air. Students from all over Australia belong to such school. Every day, I start at half past eight. I have two hours of radio lessons and sometimes I watch lessons on TV. After that, I have three hours of homework, then I have free time.

I don't mind going to school in the sitting room — it's fun! I like using the radio. I like Geography because I'm interested in learning about foreign countries and I like talking to my Geography teacher about her visits to Europe, Asia and America. I also like History lessons. Unfortunately, we don't have sport lessons.

I am Magnus. I go to Green Street School in Portland, the USA. We get to school by bus.

Our school is quite big. There are about 1,500 students. I don't mind going to school. The lessons aren't very difficult for me. Our lessons start at half past eight. We usually have five or six 45-minute lessons. I am interested in science and computer studies. I usually get good grades in these subjects and I don't mind having tests in English and Literature.

I like my school. I am good at sport. I like playing ball games, especially baseball, football and basketball. We don't have uniform in our school and we don't study foreign languages. Some schools in Portland teach Spanish and German. I would like to study German.

I usually come home after 3 p.m. and go to the local stadium to play baseball with my friends.

                             Контрольная работа  (аудирование)    9 класс

                                                                      1 вариант

I went to the cinema last week and laughed all the way through the new film “Waiter!” which is set  in a restaurant. The American actor Tom Waters plays the worst cook the world has ever seen and he employs one of the worst waiters, played by Joe Vermont.

The London restaurant where the filming took place does actually exist.(существует) Jane Connors, the owner, runs a successful business and, although she thinks “Waiter!” is a good film, she is very annoyed with the director. When she agreed to the filming, she wasn’t told that the film is about a restaurant where everything goes wrong and the food is disgusting.(отвратительная) Although the film might make Jane’s restaurant famous if it is a success, she is afraid that people will stop coming because they will think that the food and service is terrible-like it is in the film. Jane is worried she will lose business and may even have to close and start again with a new restaurant.

Having seen the film, I agree that she has a problem. The film company paid her a very small fee (гонорар) and she has since asked for more. The best solution though is for her to contact the newspapers. I am sure they will be interested in her story and it will actually help her business in the end

                  Контрольная работа  (аудирование)    9 класс

                                                          2 вариант

Sixty years ago people did not throw away so many things. They used and re-used bottles, jars, cardboard boxes, paper bags, etc.much more carefully than we do today. Now, more than fifty years later, we are returning to the same good idea- we call it “recycling”.

We are again thinking about what we throw out. Why do we throw away so much food packaging, so many plastic supermarket bags, old newspapers and phone books, drink bottles and cans? What is all this rubbish doing to our environment, to the world we live in? Can’t we use some of it again?

Answer: yes, we can. New industries- recycling industries- are staring to re-use some of our rubbish. For example, the island of Taiwan now buys tons of waste paper from the USA and recycles it to make newspapers, and for use in offices and homes. Japan takes scrap metal from the USA and makes some parts of new cars with it. Most European and American cities now have “recycling centres” for people’s old bottles and newspapers.

All this recycling is not only good for the environment but it is good business, too. A recycled aluminium can is twenty per cent cheaper to make than a new can, for  instance. For both the recycling and the economy, recycling makes very good sense.
