Plot line of the intellectual game

Hello, everybody!

I’m delighted to greet you at our anniversary contest of lovers and past masters of English. So, you are welcome! I am particularly pleased to have this opportunity to meet the representatives of different forms, to share our experience working in developing lingua-socio-cultural competence of our pupils by means of extra classes activities.

Today we offer to your attention a game “The best”. Here we have three teams: the team of the 9th A form, the team of the 9th B form and the team of the 10th form. They must pass successfully a number of tasks. Then according to their results we will define the winner – the best and the smartest team. To cope with this task we have a commission of strict juries consisting of …

1. PRESENTATION OF TEAMS

Now let’s have a look at our participants. Each team is supposed to have their particular features. I mean the name of the team, its emblem and, surely, its own motto. And it’s high time to listen to them..

2. WARMING – UP

So you can see that our teams are rather active in the sphere of creative work. Now let’s see how they know foreign literature. Our first serious task for teams is to associate the title of the famous book with its author or the author with his work. For each right answer you will get 1 point. If one team gives a wrong answer, their opponents can give their own variant. In such a way you can get additional 0.5 points.

3. MUSICAL CONTEST

Our next contest is for pleasure and relax. It will be connected with music. You will be given a shit of paper with text of the famous song from “Titanic” by Celine Dion. But some words are missed there. You will listen to the song twice and your task will be to fill in the gaps. Go ahead and good luck!

4. CATCH ME UP

Despite your preliminary results, you still have a chance to improve your position. To do this you have to collect all your knowledge in order to answer all the question about American and British symbols, history and way of life. But except of knowledge skills you will need speed and energy in this contest. With the help of your emblems you will signalize that you are ready to answer. The team that will raise their emblem first will response the question.

10.  On this day children write their names on cards with hearts on them and give these cards to their honeys. Some people do not put their names at the ends of their cards because they want their names to be a secret. How do we call this holiday?
11.  What sports and games were born in Great Britain? (football, cricket, box, lawn tennis)
12.  What is Wimbledon associated with? (Lawn tennis)
13.  What bird is the national symbol of the USA? (an eagle)
14.  What is the most famous lake in Scotland? (Loch Ness) What is it famous for?
15.  On this Sunday people give coloured eggs to each other and send cards. People celebrate the day when Jesus came back from the dead. What do Americans celebrate on this day?

5. CREATIONS

The last contest is connected with the writing of the poems. The members of the teams were given a task to express their attitude to the English language in their own poems. So, let’s listen to their odes to the English language.
