Тема «Welcome to the English-speaking world»

Тип учебного занятия: урок  комплексного применения ЗУН учащихся.

Цель для учителя: создать благоприятные условия для самостоятельного комплексного применения знаний, умений, навыков учащихся и осуществить их перенос в новые условия.

Задачи:

  •  обобщить и систематизировать знания обучающихся по изученной теме и применить их в новых условиях при решении определенных коммуникативных задач;
  •  формировать предметные компетенции;
  •  стимулировать интерес к изучению английского языка;
  •  развивать монологическую и диалогическую речь, умение     рассуждать и выделять главное, работать в паре и группе, оценивать себя и товарища,  умение доказывать, делать выводы;
  •  воспитывать культуру речи и общения, самостоятельность.

Этапы занятия:

  1. Организационный момент.
  2.   Актуализация опорных знаний.
  3.   Обобщение и систематизация знаний .
  4.  Физминутка.
  5.   Применение знаний   в новых условиях.
  6.   Итог урока.
  7.   Информация о домашнем задании.

Организационный момент

Цель: проверить организацию обучающихся к началу урока.

а)  взаимное приветствие;

б)  проверить готовность обучающихся к работе;

в)  организация внимания.

Актуализация опорных знаний

Цель:  подготовить учащихся к самостоятельному выводу темы урока, принятию целей и задач урока, а также актуализировать и закрепить опорные знания и умения, необходимые для дальнейшего применения.

    Look at the screen.You can see some flags of different countries. Name these countries and their capitals and guess what unites them. (Слайд 1)

 You are right. The names of these countries are the UK, the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

 And as you have guessed English is spoken as an official language in all these countries.

The topic of our lesson is  «Welcome to the English- speaking world»

Now look at your cards and discuss the aims of our lesson (Приложение № 1)

                  - some facts about English- speaking countries;

To be able to:  - use active vocabulary in speech;

                          - listen to the texts and choose the necessary information;

                          - give reasons, express your opinion;

                          - make up dialogues and act them out;

                          - create cinquains;

Обобщение и систематизация знаний

Цель: обобщить учебный материал по теме, чтобы подготовить учащихся для дальнейшего его применения.

2. 1. Task: listen to the following statements and guess the names of the countries.

1.This country occupies the whole continent. (Слайд)

2. This country looks like Italy upside down. (Слайд)

3. Sometimes this country is called «the world’s biggest farm». (Слайд)

4. It’s one of the world’s smallest country. (Слайд)

5. Sometimes this country is called «the lucky country». (Слайд)

6. In this country the school year starts in February. (Слайд)

7. The official languages in this country are English and French. (Слайд)

8. The second important language in this country is Spanish. (Слайд)

9. The official emblem of this country is the maple leaf. (Слайд)

10. It has the second largest population in the world. (Слайд)

2.2. Task: read the sentences and fill in the necessary information. Work with your cards. (Примечание: все последующие задания учащиеся выполняют на карточке. (См. приложение № 1). Check yourself with the key.

2.3. Task: Discuss the following statements and give your reasons. Work in pairs.

    1. English is a very popular and widely spread language in the world.

    2. If you want to be a doctor or a businessman you should learn English.

    3. If you don’t imagine your future  life without computer  you must study English.

    4. If you want to be up to date in rock and pop music you have to know English. 

2.4.Task: listen to the students talking about their reasons for learning English. Fill in the table. Use the additional card if you need (Приложение №2). Check yourself with the key. Discuss with your partner the reasons for learning English.

Цель: выявить качество и уровень овладения знаниями, умениями и навыками в измененной ситуации.

3.1. Task: choose the card   according to your abilities and make up dialogues. Work in pairs. Act out  your dialogues.

    You are going to take part in the international competition and  win an exciting tour  to English-speaking countries. Speak with your partner about possible reasons for learning English.

3.2.Task: make up cinquains about the English language. I remind you that it is a kind of a poem, which consists of 5 lines:

the first line – a general word;

the second line – two adjectives which describe this word;

the third line – 3 verbs on the topic;

the fourth line – the main idea of your «poem» (3-4 words);

the last line – a synonym of the general word ( English).

Work in groups. Present your cinquains to the class. Choose the best one.

Цель: подвести итог урока.

4.1.Task: return to the beginning of the lesson, look through the aims  of the lesson and say if you have achieved them. Evaluate your work and give yourself a mark.

    I’m satisfied with your work today. You have proved that English is very popular nowadays. You have made a lot of progress. I think you deserve only good marks.

Цель: дать полную информацию о домашнем задании.

Task: Choose your home work.

  • Write an advertisement of your country.
  • Write a letter to your pen friend and tell him about your reasons for learning English.

Scripts for Listening.

  1. Michael: I’m from France. My name is Michael. I can speak English quite well. I started to learn English 8 years ago when I was only 5. My elder sister taught me some funny English songs and poems. Then at school I continued my studies. My sister grew up and married an Englishman. Now they live in London. I often visit them and my nephews. In Britain I speak English with my relatives and friends. I can speak English fluently. But I have some problems with my grammar. I learn English because I often visit Britain and I have a lot of friends there. English helps us to overcome our communication problems. Besides, I like to read British youth magazines. They are interesting and catchy. This summer I’m going to study at a Summer School in London.

  1.  Hans: Hi! I’m Hans. I’m   from   Germany. I learn English at school in Britain. I can read English books and newspapers. But I  have  some  problems with listening and speaking English. I’m going to become a pilot. Every pilot should speak English very well. You know, sometimes English is called the language of the sky. I really enjoy  using  my computer. It’s so interesting. I can chat with people from different countries on the Internet. To use the computer I have to read and write English quite well because nearly 80% of all the information in the world’s computers is in English. These are the two main reasons why I’m learning English.

  1. Janis: Hi! I’m from sunny Greece. My name is Janis. Thousands of people from different countries come to Greece for holidays. They speak different languages.  But   most of them can speak English. So, if you want to make new friends you should speak English, too. I learn English at school and I can speak English quite well. My English friends say so. I am interested in modern  music. Most singers sing their songs in English. Most radio and TV musical  programs  are in English. The most famous musical magazines are in English too. If you want to know the latest musical news you should learn English. That’s why I learn English though I’m lazy and I don’t  like to study.

Dialogue №1

St.1- Hi! Nice to meet you.

St.2- Hi! Nice to meet you, too. We are going to arrange a school party on Friday! Would you like to join us?

St.1- It will be great! But I have  arranged to meet my English teacher. I am going to take part in the international teenagers’ competition «We live on the same planet».  It’s a good chance to win an exciting Round-the-World Tour and visit seven English- speaking countries.

St.2- Yes, it’s not a bad idea. You should try your chance. But as for me learning foreign language is a waste of time. I’ve got too many different interesting things to do.

St.1- But I can’t agree with you. Visiting the English-speaking countries I am going not only to see the sights and get to know  their peoples, but improve my English, make new friends and discuss the world’s most vital problems. Moreover, I’m sure to be up to date in my future profession I should know English.

St.2- In any way I wish you good luck.

Dialogue №2

              Cr. - Hi! My name is … .  I’m a  correspondent  of  the  British  youth magazine.

St. - My name is … Nice to meet you.

Cr. - I’m going to write an article for my magazine. I’m interested in the popularity of English in Russia. Can you answer any questions?

St. - Yes, with pleasure.

Cr. - You speak English quite well. How long have you been learning it?

St. – I have been  learning  English  for five years. And it is interesting  and  exciting  for me.

Cr. - And how popular is English in Russia?

St. - I think English is very popular in our country. If I am not mistaken about 70% of Russian students  choose  English  as their first foreign language at schools  though German and French are still popular.

Cr. - Are there any reasons for learning English at schools?

St. - I’m sure it’s very hard to imagine our modern  life  without  knowledge of English, because  the most specialists need the  English language in their work. And I hope to be up to date in my future work.  

Dialogue №3

St.1- Hi…! It’s … I have good news.

St.2- Hi…! What kind of news  do  you have?

St.1- I took part in the  international  competition. I was in luck and won the prize. And now I have chance to visit one of the English- speaking countries.

St.2 - Really? And what country are you going to visit?

St.1- You  won’t  believe! It’s  Australia.  There is a lot of sunshine  and  fresh air, fantastic and exotic birds and animals, warm water and beaches.

St.2- Oh! It’s great to visit new places and make new friends. I think you won’t have any problems with your communication. Your English is quite well.

St.1- I’m sure I’ll improve my English and after  my trip I’ll speak English fluently. It is necessary for my future profession.

St.2- Good luck! See you after the trip.
