II. Основная часть

- I like parties. I like New Year party, Birthday party and more than that I like Halloween!

What about you? Do you like it? Do you still believe in wizards and witches?

- Halloween is coming and today we are going to prepare for celebrating Halloween and to have a big competition. Make two teams – first one is the team of pumpkins, the second one – the team of ghosts. You are the main symbols of Halloween.

- People celebrate Halloween on the 31 of October. Do you know anything about the Halloween?

- Now we will watch the video about Halloween and learn something new!

(Answer: The name derives from All Hallows' Eve, which is the day before All Saints' Day (1 November).  Over time it's been shortened to Halloween.)

2. In the old days what did people think happened on Halloween?

a) It was the start of winter

b) The souls of the death came back to the Earth

c) It was a special birthday of witches and wizards

(Answer: They thought the souls of the dead came back to the Earth to cause havoc for the living. Scary!)

3. What is the favorite Halloween costume for pets in America?

c) pumpkin

(Answer: Pumpkin. Closely followed by hot dog and devil costumes of course!)

4. The world's biggest pumpkin is approximately the same weight as...

b) a leatherback turtle

c) an elephant

(Answer: It is around the same weight as a leatherback sea turtle! The heaviest pumpkin was grown by Ron Wallace in America last year and weighed just over 900kg. That's also about the same as a small car!)

5. Where did Halloween start?

b) Europe

c) Australia

(Answer: It started here in Europe then it travelled to America when people emigrated. It then came back to Europe which is why we celebrate it today.)

6. Pumpkins belong to the same food family as...

a) tomatoes

b) pizzas

c) cucumbers

(Answer: t is cucumbers! Pumpkins are also related to watermelons, gherkins and squash.)

7. A man has broken the world record for sailing a pumpkin across...

a) part of the English channel

(Answer: An artist has crossed part of the English Channel, called the Solent, from Gosport to the Isle of Wight using a pumpkin as his boat!)

8. What trick or treat goodies were originally given out for Halloween?

a) Chocolate pennies

b) Gold coins

c) Fruit and nuts

(Answer: Fruit and nuts were left on doorsteps to cheer up any wandering ghosts who came back to their old house.)

9. What were Halloween lanterns originally for?

a) finding your way in the dark

b) warding off devil spirits

c) showing off your skills as a carver (rezchik)

(Answer: They were to scare off ghosts and evil spirits. The face on a pumpkin or lantern represents an evil spirit or demon.)

10. True or false: the original reason people dressed up on Halloween was to scare away ghosts.

b) False

(Answer: It is true! Fancy dress was started by the Celts who first celebrated Halloween. They believed that if the evil spirits thought you were a ghost or demon they would not attack you. )

- Now I’ll show you a trick! Look I have got a penny. This is my left hand and this is my right hand. You must guess in what hand I have got a penny. Begin you sentences with: “You have got a penny in…” Who will guess – this team is the winner.

- It’s a trick.

- Now you have field with different letters in it. Find the Halloween words. You have 1 minute. Then I will collect them for counting the results!

- Don’t drop the ghost! You will blow or just beat at the balloon not to let it fall down. Who will drop it, won’t have 5 points. Ready? Start!

- Now, your task is to collect the puzzle. Who is the quickest? Start!

Учитель подходит к группе детей и спрашивает в какой руке монетка. Каждый ученик отвечает:

• One task is left. It is easy! This the word: HALLOWEEN. Please, imagine what other words can you find it this word?
• Every team write them down and than we will count them! You have 4 minutes!
