Dmitry Mikhaylovich Karbyshev (October 26, 1880, Omsk — February 18, 1945, Mauthausen, Austria) was an officer of the Russian Imperial Army, aRed Army general, professor of the Soviet General Staff Academy (Doctor of Military Sciences), and Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously). He is best known for being left outside to freeze to death while imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp, becoming a role model of patriotism in Soviet propaganda.

Biography Karbyshev was born in Omsk to the well-known Siberian Cossack starshyna family of Kryashen origin and spoke bothRussian and Kryashen dialect of Tatar.His father died when he was twelve, and he was raised by his mother. Despite financial difficulties, he graduated from the Siberian Cadet Corps (today Omsk Cadet Corps of Ministry of Defense) in 1898 and went on to attend the Saint-Petersburg Nikolaev Military Engineering College (Uchilishche), from which he graduated in 1900. He was assigned to serve in the 1st East Siberian Sapper Battalion, in charge of battlefield telegraph operations (chief of cable section of a telegraph company), and was stationed in Manchuria.

He was married twice. He met his first wife Alisa Karlovna Troyanovich (1874-1913) of German descent, while serving inVladivostok. After six years of married life Alisa died in 1913 and was buried in Brest at the Trishin's Cemetery. While in Belarus, in 1916 Karbyshev married again a military nurse Lidiya Vasilyevna Opatskaya (1891–1976), who outlived her husband by 30 years. They had three children together - Yelena (1918-2006), Tatiana (1926—2003), and Aleksey (1929—1988). Yelena followed in her father's footsteps and became a military engineer,having been awarded several orders and medals for her outstanding contributions. Tatiana worked as an economist, whereas Aleksey earned a Ph.D. in Economics and was a chairholder at the Moscow Financial Institute. Personal life

Omsk state academic drama theatre

The money collected by subscription of the Omsk society, in 1874, was created in the Omsk drama theatre. He is the oldest theatre of the city of Omsk. The theater building is a historical monument of architecture. with funds allocated by the city Duma , in 1905 it was built. The project author is the architect Illiodor Khvorinov . The status of academic theater bears since 1983.

The state award named after Konstantin Sergeyevich Stanislavsky Omsk drama received twice. The first award was received in 1973 for the play "Soldier's widow". The second award came in 1985, she was honored with the play "war Has no female face". In 2011, the Omsk theatre received the prize of the Government of the Russian Federation. Fyodor Volkov for his contribution to the development of theatrical art. Omsk drama theatre arranges tours in Russia and abroad, is a member of Russian and international festivals.

Omsk Regional Museum of Fine Arts named after Vrubel

It was established 21 December 1924 in the former governor-general's palace, built in 1859-1862 by architect F. F. Wagner . In 1940, the art department of the West Siberian Regional Museum has found independence and became known as the Omsk State Museum of Fine Arts, and since 1954 - the Omsk Regional Museum of Fine Arts .

Mikhail Vrubel Russian artist of the XIX-XX centuries, has worked in virtually all types and genres of fine arts: painting, drawing, sculpture, decorative arts and theater. Since 1896, he was married to a famous singer Zabela , which repeatedly drew her portraits.

Interesting facts The Assumption Cathedral was closed in 1918 because red commissioners required to give all property of Omsk to supporters of Bolshevism . Design of the cathedral was realized by Ernest Wurrich . He took the project of the St . Petersburg « Church of the Savior on Blood » as a basis .

The Lubochka monument Luba is situated at the road crossing of Karl Liebknecht street and Leninsky avenue. The monument was established in 1999. A sculptor Noryshev and an architect Vahitov made an unusual sculpture, reflecting all folk traditions.

Tarski gates. Tarski gates was built in 1792 on land on the northern line. The historical monument was destroyed in 1959 by the decision of the Soviet government. Fyodor Dostoevsky, who was the greatist Russian novelist, spent 4 years of his exile in the Omsk fortress. Government made decision to reconstruction Tarski gates only in 1991.

State Bolsherechye Zoo - one of the rural zoo in Russia ( Omsk and Amur Region) . Its area of 9 hectares and it is located in the Omsk region , in the picturesque valley of the river Bolshaya , near its confluence with the Irtysh . Usually zoo appear primarily in the cities, but in the Omsk region is the only zoo in the village of the district , over 200 km from the regional center. Despite the distance from the regional center , it is visited by more than 100 thousand people annually . Bolsherechye Zoo is one of the 42 Russian zoological parks.

Lieberov -Centre is a national art musiem founded in 1994. Its aims are : Collecting Saving Observing works by national artist of Russia and professor of painting Alexey Nikolayevich Lieberov .

Alexey Nikolayevich Lieberov Was born in Tomsk. Omsk became his second native town, where he met his first teachers : Mizirov and Ufimche . His initial skills became foundation of his further education at Moscow Institute of Cinematography and at the Fine Art Academy in Leningrad. He graduated just before the Great Patriotic War. Being a soldier he marched through Russia from the Pacific ocean to the Baltic shores.

After war Lieberov returned to Omsk and became a leader in the local Russian artists’ union, organized the fine arts department at the Pedagogic Institute. Several times he led groups of artists in expeditions through Siberia.

Lieberov specialized in landscapes : he loved Siberian nature dearly. No matter where the artist had lived and worked, he always came back to Omsk.
