Тема урока: “SOCIAL NETWORKS”

Цель урока: развитие коммуникативных навыков по теме «Социальные сети» посредством заданий разного типа.

Задачи урока:

-развивать коммуникативные УУД через активизирование лексики по теме, развивать навык спонтанной речи (выражения собственного мнения), развивать навык аудирования, развивать навык ведения диалога-интервью, развивать навык письма (домашнее задание);

 - развивать познавательные способности учащихся;  

- развивать регулятивные УУД через развитие умения работать в парах, группах;

-развивать навыки культуры общения, воспитание уважительного отношения к взглядам других.

Планируемые результаты:

Предметные:

  • научиться применять лексический материал по теме «Social networks» посредством всех видов речевой деятельности;

Метапредметные:

  • развивать навыки просмотрового и поискового чтения и навыки работы с текстом;
  • развивать умение работать в команде для достижения общей цели, распределять роли;
  • развивать умение обобщать, анализировать и критически оценивать информацию;
  • формировать и развивать навыки ораторского мастерства, умения выступать перед аудиторией;
  • развивать умения правильно распределять и использовать свое время.

Личностные:

  • способствовать развитию навыков культуры общения;
  • воспитывать уважение к точки зрения собеседника.

Развиваемые УУД:

- развитие коммуникативных УУД путем построения развернутых монологических и диалогических высказываний;

- развитие познавательных УУД через анализ текста, сбор и систематизацию информации, анализ монологических и диалогических высказываний;

 - развитие регулятивных УУД посредством целеполагания, рефлексии, работы в группах/парах, вариативного домашнего задания.

- развитие личностных УУД посредством формирования представления о реалиях современного мира.

  1. Beginning and warming up: introduction to the lesson, defining the theme of the lesson (brainstorming);
  2. Objective-setting, plan;
  3. 1) Reading the text “Social networks” and filling in the chart on the text;

          2) Listening to the interview with a software engineer about Tweeter. Filling in the gaps;

          3) Discussion of the World map of social networks;

          4) Presenting the most popular networks of the group or an interview with a groupmate on the topic;

  1. T.: Good morning, everyone. I am glad to see you here. I hope you are OK. Look at the board. You can see a crossence on it. Let’s interpret the crossence and try to guess the topic of our lesson.

T.: Well done! What do you think the topic of our lesson is?

(PUPILS GIVE THEIR IDEAS ABOUT THE TOPIC)

T.: You’re right. Today we’re going to speak about social networks. Do you use social networking sites?  Do you think this topic is important to you? Why?

(PUPILS TALK ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF THE TOPIC)

  1. T.: What social networking sites do you know? Come here and put the icon of it on the board.

(PUPILS NAME THE SITES)

T.: The spidergram is connected with our objectives. Read them and choose the ones which seem the most important to you. Explain your choice.

  • I’d like to learn what kinds of social networking sites there are and how they work;
  • I’d like to know how to create a personal profile;
  • I’d like to know which social networks are popular in the world and in Russia;
  • I’d like to know what social networks my classmates use and why;
  • I’d like to develop my speaking skills on the topic.

T.: And now look at the plan I suggest. In my opinion, all the activities are useful and interesting. Is everything clear?

  1. T.: Look at the question on the board: Why do people use social networking sites? To answer this question, read the text on page 38 very quickly. Open your textbooks. If you have difficulties in understanding some words, you can see the explanation on the board. You have one minute.

(PUPILS READ THE TEXT AND ANSWER THE QUESTION)

Sample answer: Social networking sites allow us to see our social connections, interact with them and share music, photos and videos with them.

T.: Now work in groups on the text and fill in the table. The first group, you work with the first and the second points. The second group, your points are 3 and 4, and the third – the rest ones.  Be ready to present the results of your work. You have 2 minutes.

T: We have read the text about different social networks. And what about Twitter?  It’s also very popular. What do you know about it?

To learn some more information about Twitter, let’s listen to the interview with Dave Chase, a software engineer. Listen and fill in the gaps.

(PUPILS DO THE LISTENING TASK)

T:  Change your cards in pairs and check your partner’s answers. The correct answers are on the board. Put only good marks: no mistakes or one mistake – “5”, two or three mistakes - “4”, more mistakes – no mark.

T: As we see Social networks have become very popular nowadays. Why do you think it has happened?

Sample answer:

I think social networks have become so popular because computers and technology have become a major part of our everyday life. Many young people spend a lot of time online: they interact with their friends to talk and share videos, music, websites that they have found on the Internet.

T.: Look at the board. What does this map show?

This map shows the first ranked social networks. Comment on the map. Use the words and expressions on the board (the most popular, widely spread, the least popular, leading)

(The map shows the most popular social networks around the world. Facebook is the most widely spread. It is the leading social network in the world.  But the first leading social network in Russia is VK. The least popular ones are Odnoklassniki and Instagram.  In China QZone dominates. The second popular is ….)

T: Good job! I’d like to add that Facebook is the leading social network in 152 out of 167 countries.

T.: What about our group? What social networks do you use?

Like the social network you usually use (spidergram at the beginning of the lesson).

Make groups according to your favourite social networking sites and take your seats according to your choice. Now you can choose whether you will work in a group or in a pair.  Take the cards and work at the task on the cards. Use the ideas of our lesson and follow the plan. Will 5 minutes be enough for you?

  • how often he/she checks his/her account
  • what he/she most often does in his/her social networking sites

Finish your interview, thank your groupmate for answering your questions.

Interviewee:

Greet everyone. Answer your partner’s questions about social networking sites, be emotional. Be ready to speak about:

  • your social network account,
  • your friends and connections;
  • how often you check your account (daily, many times a day, every two hours, every time you have a notification and why);
  • what you most often you do in social networking sites (chat with friends and post pictures, share videos, read news, play games, watch videos and soon).

T.: Your time is over. Get started. I’d like the pupils of the other groups to assess the speakers according to the criteria in the evaluation form.

Do you have a social network account? I do. I spend much time communicating online. I share photos with my friends, watch funny videos and promote my hip-hop dancing. What do you like doing in your social networking site? Which one do you prefer and why? Do you have time for any other activities?

 Write him a letter and answer his 3 questions. Write 100-120 words. Remember the rules of letter writing.
