  1. Начало урока. Приветствие. Введение в тему урока.

T.: Good morning everybody. Today we are going to discuss the problem of environmental protection. Children, do you like our planet, village? Do you want to see our district clean and tidy?

You know that people all over the world are worried about our environment. The issue of ecology is important. Here are some words on the blackboard, you should read them and give their definition in English.     Ecology.

P1: study of organisms and environment

T: Environment.

P2: All the surroundings of an organism including other living things, climate, air, waters soil.

T: Acid rain.

P3: When harmful gases from cars and power plants release into the air and fall back to the Earth with rain or snow.

T: Conservation.

P4: The wise use of the environment.

T; Habitat.

P5: An area that provides animals and plants with food, water, shelter.

T: Our planet is nice and beautiful. It is large. There are some ecological problems in it. What are they?

P1: Flowers are pulled out.

P2: Litter is left.

P3: The water is polluted.

P4: Fires are started.

P5: Trees are cut down.

P6; Birds and animals are frightened.

P7: The air is polluted.

T: You are right. All these problems are very serious and important. Please look at the posters. They show some environmental problems of our planet. As these problems are global, I want you to discuss them.

(Уч-ся высказывают свое мнение по I плакату)

P1: We throw away too much and in the wrong place. We leave litter near the river. The water is polluted and the fish in the river die.

P2: Every spring I see rubbish near our village. I think that our country people do it. They throw away old things, paper, clothes, bottles and plastic bags. It’s a pity!

(Высказывания мнения по II плакату)

P3: There are many animals and birds in our district. We should not make unnecessary noise. If we don’t keep to public paths in the countryside, birds and animals are frightened.

P4: You know that polluted air, water and land are harmful to plants, animals and people. As a result of our investigations we have found out that our district is polluted.

P5: 60% of air pollution is caused by different means of transport: cars, trucks and buses. Modern lifestyle, in which people do little exercise, use cars instead of walking, watch television for many hours and work with computers is leading us to catastrophe.

T: I’m glad that you worry about our Earth, that you are not indifferent to the problem of saving it and I suggest to read a verse about environment problem.

“What have they done to the seas, my friend?

What have they done to the seas?

What have they done to the rivers, my friend?

What have they done to the trees?!

What have they done to our land, my friend!

This land which is ours from our birth?

What have they done to our forests, my friend?

What have they done to the Earth?

T: We have to do something about this. We’ll take part in actions for cleaning up, tree and flower planting, protecting wildlife, and organizing outdoor activities.

What have they done to the skies, my friend?

Skies that are blue and so clear

What have they done to the skies, my friend?

What have they done to the air?

(The students answer the questions:

  1. What have they done to the rivers?
  2. What have they done to the forests?
  3. What have they done to the air?

Before this task they say 3 forms of the verbs: to cut, to pull, to break, to pollute, to throw, to leave, to make.

Example: They have cut down trees.

T: Let’s revise Grammar and make sentences in Simple Present Passive.

  2. People cut down forests.
  3. People throw litter in the forests.
  4. People leave fire in the forest.
  5. Children paint trees.
  6. Children break branches.

The students are divided into 3 groups of 3 persons. The jury is elected from the students of the other group.

  1. Task. The groups in turn name the words that are suitable for the theme “Ecology”
  2. Task. On the teacher’s table there are cards with sentences. The students of the 1 group should choose cards that belong to the problems with water;

the 2 group – air problems; the 3 group – forest and soil problems. There should be 3 copies of each sentence.

  7. We must recycle things.
  8. All life on Earth depends on it.
  9. It is polluted by litter, chemicals.
  10. It’s important to stop making acid rain.(A, B, C)

The sentences of “A” deal with the air problems; the sentences of ‘B” belong to forest problems and “C” deals with water problems. The 10th sentence belongs to water; air; forest problems.

3.Task. Each group should choose 4 sentences. They should tell the reason or the result of the actions given by the sentences.

Example: People build factories. These factories and many of the things they make, like cars, put a lot of harmful gases into the air.

T: I want you to remember that you should treat all the people, animals and plants with love and care, respect everybody and everything and you’ll be happy. It’s our responsibility to preserve the earth for ourselves and for future generations. Now let’s work out the solutions which help us to preserve the planet from ecological disaster. The rainforests are being cut down rapidly. Nobody knows exactly how much of this resource is cut down every year.
  2. …When we think of wildlife facing extinction, we are usually thinking of large majestic animals such as whales, rhinos and elephants, or of the “cuddly” black-and-white panda. These creatures are indeed under risk of extinction because of irresponsible and cruel hunting by human “predators”.
  3. …The lower part of the stratosphere contains a band of warm gas called the ozone layer. Ozone absorbs very short wave ultraviolet radiation – that is, the harmful, burning rays from the sun. These rays kill plants and cause burns, skin cancer, and cataracts in animals and humans.

  1. Water Pollution                        D. The Destruction of Rainforests
  2. Air Pollution                                E. Nuclear waste.
