Shooting sports in the Ryazan region

The history of sport shooting of pneumatic guns is relatively (сравнительно) new. The first World championship was held in 1966. Now it is the Olympic sport and there are 7 male and 4r female exercises on bullet (пулевая) shooting in Olympic Games.

        The first regional shooting-sports club was opened in 1954, in Ryazan. There were prepared:

Masters of sports of international class - 6 people;

Masters of Sports of the USSR (СССР) - 25 people;

Champions of the USSR - 6 people;

European Junior Champion - 1 person.

        The first coach: Master of Sports of the USSR, RSFSR (РСФСР) champion Shatokhin N.N, Pechenkin F.P, Fedorov A.P., Sazonov A.P.

        In 1990 shooting sports have stopped the existence in departments (ведомствах) of the Ryazan region.

        On July 21st, 2006 the public organization «Ryazan regional federation of shooting sports» was registered.

Federation President - Stalin Eugeny Valerianovich - USSR Master of Sports.

        On May 15th, 2007 a shooting gallery (тир) was opened and the bullet shooting section for children and youth began working. It is the day of revival (возрождения) of shooting sports in the Ryazan region.

Holiday in the Ryazan Kremlin

        In July there is an annual (ежегодный) holiday «Summer day in the Kremlin» in Ryazan. It is devoted to Family Day, love and fidelity, memory of Saints Peter and Fevronia. The holiday takes place on the territory of the Ryazan Kremlin. It starts in the morning and ends in the late evening when we can watch musical and dramatic performance "Peter and Fevronia. Legend of the Great Power of Love".

        And during all this long time the Kremlin is hospitably opened for visitors, free of charge (бесплатные) expositions and exhibitions of the Ryazan Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve (заповедник) work, it is possible to walk through archeological excavations (археологические раскопки) territory, to visit fair (ярмарку), to listen to a concert of various folk groups. This great national holiday is visited by people of all ages.

Maslenitsa - (also known as Butter Week, Pancake week or Cheese fare Week) is a Russian religious and folk holiday.

It is celebrated during the last week of the Great Lent 

Maslenitsa has a dual ancestry (двойное происхождение): pagan (языческое) and Christian. On the pagan side, Maslenitsa is a sun festival, celebrating the end of winter and the beginning of spring. On the Christian side, Maslenitsa is the last week before the Great Lent (Пост) which is before Easter. During the Lent meat, fish, dairy products and eggs are forbidden (запрещены), as well as (так же как) parties, music, dancing and others.

The most characteristic food of Maslenitsa is Russian pancakes with all sorts of fillings (начинки). They symbolize the sun.

Maslenitsa also includes masquerades, contests (состязания), snowball fights, sledging (катание на санках).

The culmination of the celebration is a burning of a brightly dressed straw figure of Lady Maslenitsa.
