Social etiquette in Russia
Etiquette is protocol, rules of behaviuor that you memorize. Manners are an expression of how you treat others when you care about them and their feelings.
When meeting a Russian, male or female, for the first time, shake hands firmly while retaining eye contact. Looking away can be considered rude and indifferent. Don’t shake hands over a threshold; enter the room first, then shake hands.
If you are invited to someone’s house for dinner, you should remember to take a gift with you. This can be a cake, a box of sweets or a bunch of flowers. If you decide to take flowers, give an uneven number.
You should dress casually for dinner in someone’s home, but make sure you wear clean socks. This because when you arrive in the house, you will be asked to remove your shoes and put on a pair of house slippers called tapki.
When it comes to food and drink, you should never refuse anything that is offered, this is very bad manners and will offend people. Finally, don’t forget to thank your host.

- A handshake is the most common form of greeting. _______
