The Lowdown on Bullies!

At some point in our lives many of us will have to deal with a bully. Yet bullies are not all the same. To be able to handle such a threat, it is important to know what kind of person you are dealing with.

The most dangerous and common bully is the aggressive one. Aggressive bullies use the fear of violence to control others. Unfortunately, it doesn’t stop there. They are known to quickly lose their temper and harm their victims without ever  feeling sorry for them. When faced with such a person, immediately tell a parent or teacher.

Furthermore, stay in public places and amongst others for safety. Some people even learn  self-defence to protect themselves against this kind of bully. However, violence is not the answer, as it leads to even more violence.

Next, are the verbal bullies. They attack with words and are only happy when others feel hurt. So when an unkind joke is made, show as little reaction as possible and just walk away. Remember, you can’t talk sense to an unreasonable person. And, above all, never make jokes about yourself to prove that nothing can hurt you. This will only encourage them.

Last, is the computer bully. The best way to deal with this menace is by deleting their messages. Do not read anything they write and never send a reply. When faced with such a person, it is wise to seriously consider a change of e-mail address.

Keep in mind that bullies are simply people who envy the talents of their victims. The only way they can feel powerful is by putting others down. Therefore, never listen to anything they have to say.

  1. Aggressive bullies later regret hurting someone.
  2. Being bullied can make kids feel really bad.
  3. When dealing with an aggressive bully, seek the help of an adult.
  4. Sometimes just acting brave is enough to stop a bully.
  5. Humour will keep verbal bullies away.
  6. One way to deal with computer bullies is to report them to the police.
  7. Computer bullies use very advanced technology.
  8. Bitter denunciation is the best way to stop computer bullying.
  9. The good news is that kids who are bullies can learn to change their behavior.
  10. Bullies are jealous of what other people are good at.

SPEAKER A
I don’t really like books. Actually, I find books very boring. But that doesn’t mean that I never read anything. I spend a lot of time on the Internet reading different forums, posts and articles. I think it’s the best way of getting information and keeping up with the world and I have a lot of friends who do the same. I find it very unfair when people say that nowadays teenagers don’t read. People should be open-minded and not so quick to judge.
SPEAKER B
One thing that makes me really sad is that I know that I will never be able to read all the great books that have been written by the best minds and talents in the history of humankind. There just isn’t enough time! But it never hurts to try. So why would you ever want to waste your time reading mediocre modern books written by unknown writers who haven’t yet had the time to polish their writing style when there are so many classics? I find it ridiculous.
SPEAKER C
To me reading has always been a way to escape. Within seconds of opening a book you find yourself in a world completely unlike our own. Your boring everyday problems like going to school, doing homework, getting good marks or tidying up your room are replaced with the exciting problems of saving the world, defeating the evil magician and trying to stay alive. With every new book you get to experience a different life. What could be better?
SPEAKER D
Have you ever encountered the problem that when you are packing to go on vacation you simply can’t fit all your books into your suitcase? Believe me: it’s not fun. Well, ever since I bought an e-book, my life has become much easier. Now I can carry thousands of books wherever I go. The only problem is that it can be very unpleasant when your battery decides to die half way through an exciting chapter. Life can be really unfair.
SPEAKER E
It can be a challenge to teach your child to love reading books. Of course, reading books to your kid from the earliest age is the most obvious solution. But honestly, I just don’t have the time or the patience. I find myself falling asleep every time I attempt reading out loud. Audiobooks are a great alternative here. My children love them. I myself enjoy listening to them while driving to work. And to be completely frank, the actors do a much better job reading than I do.
SPEAKER F
I love reading non-fiction books, especially self-help books. I’m always trying to improve myself and such books are a great source of knowledge and inspiration. Even if I don’t learn anything new, it can be nice to look at something from a different perspective, learn about other people’s stories and know that I’m not alone. Often these books provide the push I need to change my life for the better. I think that other people’s experiences can be a great way to learn about yourself.

Пояснение.

Tom: I was an exchange student in Denmark in 2005 and had an absolutely awful experience with my host family and my school. They weren’t the friendliest of people.
Jack: Oh really? Well, with me there were things that made me a bit sad but in general I enjoyed being there. Yes, I know, people can seem a little cold and, yes,
even rude.
Tom: That’s it. And in my very first week I got insulted by a bus driver when I was trying to clip my card. Of course it can happen anywhere, but it was a bit sad that no one batted an eyelid.
Jack: It’s something I experienced as well, to be honest, but Scandinavians seem to be very sensitive underneath the shell. The harder the shell is, it seems, the more fragile underneath. It’s a new set of social rules we need to learn, I guess, when we go to a different country.
Tom: You’re right, of course. And despite all my problems, I miss Denmark so much, it’s like having a constant stomachache.
Jack: I know what you mean. There are things that I really love there. First, the tap water is drinkable. Then the Metro is gorgeous. It’s a pleasure to go by train, as the trains are cute inside.
Tom: What is more, the sky is often starry, because there’s little pollution. The air is pretty good. The thing is, I haven’t been happy since I returned home to the States. I’ve gotten to the point that I consider myself more Danish than I do American. But I wonder if it will be difficult to make new friends.
Jack: I have friends who live there now who say it’s quite hard to make friends or get into their circle. But, I think, it depends.
Tom: Ideally I plan to move in January. Yes, I know it’s the coldest month but if I don’t do it then, I’ll get all wrapped up in our city’s big spring festival and then the football season begins, then my birthday ... you get the idea — and never ...
Jack: Yes, and this will also give you enough time to get a visa.
