  1. Introduction.

Reading plays an important role in human life.

«I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a book».

J.K. Rowling

Books open the doors for us to a  mysterious world. They tell us about famous and well-known personalities and common people, about history, about sciences and inventions, about countries, peoples and customs, about human relationships, dreams, thoughts, feelings etc.

Reading brings people a lot of happiness, fun and great benefit, because people can always draw something for themselves from the books. Books nourish human souls, make them richer and stronger, they give experience and knowledge.

You cannot learn and live without books.

Everyone has their favorite books. One likes to read books on history; the other prefers aesthetic literature; the third always needs something very special - it can be fairy tales, sagas, ballads, textbooks, dictionaries, scientific articles, cookbooks, etc. But we all read different books and we learn a lot from that.Warum werden   Interessen  der Kinder und Jugendlichen  für  Lesen, der klassischen Literatur und  Poesie  jedes Jahr reduziert?

Which books are interesting for our classmates and when and how much time do they read today?

How to increase students' interest in literature?

To answer these questions, we tried to explore the reading preferences and interests of the students in our school.

The aim of the work is based on the example of our school:

- Do modern students like or dislike reading?

- What are your reading interests?

- Which books do our classmates prefer when  they read?

- Is the student's attention to reading an important factor in the socialization of the human personality?

Tasks:

1. Analyze the behavior of our classmates to reading literature.

2. Determine the list of works of art that are of particular interest to our classmates.

3. Make a list of "Our Favorite Books."

4. Conduct a survey.

5. Obtain new knowledge and interesting facts, process them and present them in diagrams.

6. Present the information .

The objects of our research are the students of our school .

The subject of research - reading interests of our schoolstudents.

During the work we used the methods of observation, tests, survey,  questioning.

2.Main part.

Reading plays an important role in human life.

The English writer Jean Paul once said: "Reading books means going for a hike in  spaces, from the living room over the stars».

Reading is an activity that we do every day. Different people have different attitudes towards books. One is a huge fan of books and the other is an avid reader.  Reading is very important to us because we draw wisdom from books. But books can also be different. On the one hand, there are interesting, entertaining and exciting books that we read quickly, on the other hand, there are also boring books that we just scan.

Our country used to be the most reading country in the world. Today, unfortunately, people and books separate such mass media as computers, mobile phones, TV, and pushed the main source of knowledge to the second plan. But the printed book was already being made in the middle of the 15th century, when the great Johann Guttenberg first printed the Bible.
There is an opinion that today's students are only interested in  phones, the Internet and communication with friends, and today they read little or never read books.
Perhaps the students read now, not to the same extent as their parents read in their childhood, but that is  clear, because the number of sources of information is now huge, but the printed BOOK with paper pages finds its place in life of the student.

2.1. Reading preference

For everyone who still needs motivation to start reading:

• There are so many different books that everyone can find something to suit their own taste.

• You can read anywhere. Anyone who reads is no longer bored.

• Books are always a great topic of conversation with your partner.

2.2  Reading types.

Book fox  sniffs out interesting books and reads only what is really interesting ю

Book rat  reads a lot and quickly, without really delving into the meaning.

In Russia, only one of the three concepts is often used - bookworm. Sometimes he reads everything. He likes this activity. He usually has a huge home library. And besides that, there are many different e-readers or applications for reading books on your phone, tablet and on all gadgets where you can install them. The bookworm is a very erudite person.

2.3. The genres of literature.

Epic genres include: the novel, the crime novel, the romance novel, the science fiction novel, the adventure novel, the epic, the narrative, the novella, the essay, the biography, the fairy tale, the saga, the legend, the anecdote, the Fable, the travelogue, the travelogue.

The basic forms of drama are: tragedy, comedy, tragic-comedy, absurd theater.

Lyrics include: poem, ode, hymn, song, ballad.

There are many books that can help us. These are: the encyclopedia, the lexicon, the dictionary, the special literature, the technical literature, the cookbook, the computer literature, the health book, the political literature, the sports literature and the textbook.

Do you know which is the most popular book?

First place is the trilogy of novels "Lord of the Rings" by J.R.Tolkien,

Second place went to Joanne K. Rowling's novel "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", a book for young people.

Тhe third is "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupery .

3. Research.

«People stop thinking when they stop reading," said the philosopher Deni Didro.    Maybe this is really so, because books encourage us to think about where is the truth and where is falsehood, what is right and what is wrong, what is good and what is bad, books help us to better understand ourselves. Sometimes reading brings joy and peace, sometimes anger. It all depends on what kind of books we read. The world develops, our reading preferences change, sometimes old literary traditions disappear and new literary traditions develop.

"You can always get to know people from the books he reads." This quote from the English writer Samuel Smale helps us understand what kind of books our children read? Do you read often or not? You choose those genres of works that you like best.

We conducted sociological surveys, interviewed classmates, analyzed library documentation, evaluated  results of questions, studied many sources of information.

Our survey has got  some questions.

1. What books do our classmates like or dislike to read?

2. How often do you read? Often - sometimes -rarely ?

3. What books do our students prefer to read?

4. Do you have your own library at home?

5. You visit the library often, don't you?

6. What kind of books do you prefer?

7. How much time per week do you spend in front of your computer and TV?

8. Why  do  you read?

9. The cognitive role of literature today.

The results of this survey:

1. 75% of all classmates like to read with interest, 25% do not like to read.

2. 30% of all often read , 30% of all  rarely read,

And 40% of all sometimes read .

3.What books do our students prefer by reading?

1. Romance novels - 10%

2. Children's and young people's books - 15%

3. Crime, thriller - 13%

4.Comics - 10%

5. Fairy tales, adventure and  Travel stories -7%

6. Historical novels. - 15%

7. Mandatory books (classical - works of world literature) - 10%

8. Fantasy - 20%

The students give the greatest preference for genres such as thriller - (horror) - 13%, historical novels - 15%, books for children and young people - 15%, fantasy - 20%.

4.Do you have your own library at home?

75% of all respondents have their own library at home, but 25% do not have a library.

5. Do you visit the library often, don't you?

Only 55% of our classmates are active readers and often visit libraries.

6.What kind of books do you prefer?

50% of all classmates prefer to read traditional printed books, 35% prefer e-books and 15% read nothing.

7. How much time per week do you spend in front of your computer and TV?

Our schoolmates spend an average of 2-3 hours a week, 30 minutes a day. 67% of you read for 1 to 3 hours,

21% give reading for 4-5 hours, 8% - more than 5 hours per week.

Read every day - 48%, twice a week - 37%, at least twice a week - 15% of all respondents.
8. Why  do  you read?

Answers are also different. 59% of read because they like to read, 11% only do this to prepare for literature lessons, 15% - through parents' pressure. It is sad that there are 6 students who do not like reading at all or do not read anything.

9. The cognitive role of literature today goes in on the background and takes last place. This confirms the answers to the question - «Reading for you is ...»:

Leisure, entertainment, 50% believe, new knowledge - 20%, help with studying - 30%.

4.Conclusion.

The aim of our research is to determine the reading interests of classmates. Among the readers' preferences of our classmates there are literary works of all genres. But our classmates most often choose science fiction, thrillers and humorous works.

Specialized books and classical literature are also not interesting for our classmates. Many children are interested in poetry, stories about animals and adventures, but our young people are completely indifferent to reading books about their peers.

So, our classmates as readers of our research work have their own very diverse reading circle. In general, the children in my school are positive about reading as a form of leisure.

On average, they spend 2-3 hours a week reading, they choose and read books that they like.

Most students understand the importance and necessity of reading, as well as the role of the book in a person's life.
The results of our research show that the interest in reading among our classmates is quite high.

But our classmates read literature only "for the soul" and not "for the soul and heart." There are children in school who read under pressure or do not read at all.

Increasing interest in a good and correct book depends on each person, and we should all try to ensure that reading regains its leading position among the leisure activities of our classmates.

And this work is just a small part of what we must do to revive the culture of reading.

We would like to address it in the words of the Georgian poet Алио Mirzhulava:

You are looking for worldly knowledge and wisdom,

Are you looking for the meaning of life in space?

Find a book on the shelf and open it!

this is a great source of clean, inspiring thoughts ...

Ты ищешь знаний, мудрости земной,

Ты ищешь смысла жизни во вселенной?

Найди на полке книгу и раскрой

Источник мысли чистый, вдохновенный…

Reasons - Why You Should Read Books.

Reading is the best way to spend your free time.

We escape the sad everyday life and travel into the world of fantasy.

1.Reading сan prevent Alzheimer's Disease.

Research shows that people who face complex intellectual challenges in their lives especially often challenge their brains. Thanks to regular reading and constant assimilation of new information, the brain receives an optimal load, and the memory is trained so that it remains effective even in old age.

2) Reading reduces stress.

Life can be challenging and many find it difficult to relax after a busy day at work. Reading can help. People leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind and go into a fantasy world where they can find a distance from their own lives and relax.

3) Vocabulary expansion.

"Reading educates", you say. And it is truth : regular reading automatically expands the vocabulary.  If you read texts aloud, words move from passive to active vocabulary even more easily.

4) Reading builds writing skills.

The University of California has found that reading novels always affects your writing style. The style of the author of the novel influences the writing skills of the reader, so that he learns to write while reading. He looks at the methods of storytelling and is inspired by the power of the author of the novel.

5) Reading helps you fall asleep.

Many people have difficulty falling asleep. The events of the day are too hectic. If you pick up a book every night and read a few pages, you not only find peace of mind, but you can also end a busy day with a relaxing ritual..

6) Reading helps develop social skills.

Reading promotes empathy, according to research from the New School for Social Research in New York. Readers learn by reading from the behavior of their colleagues and are able to better understand the lives of others.

7) Reading promotes creativity.

Immersion in a fantasy world trains the imagination. Unlike movies, the images are created from the text by the readers themselves. Regular reading has a positive effect on creativity and improves a person's imagination.

8) Reading broadens your horizons.

Whether you're looking to get away from your life or are just curious and want to get to know other people and places, reading is probably the cheapest way to travel. Stories provide insight into the lives of others, their thoughts, work, and habits. You get to know faraway places and get to know foreign cultures. Readers think and broaden their horizons.

9) Reading promotes concentration.

Information and news are often delivered quickly and in small portions. We quickly surf the Internet, read messages here, headlines there, and review the most important news. We look at pictures of disasters from the news and quickly check the weather again. At this pace of life, reading a novel at the end of the day has a slowing effect. You can relax and reading also promotes concentration.
