Предварительный просмотр:

I overslept. I woke up late.
I had to rush. I couldn’t wait.
I grabbed my clothes. I threw them on.
And, in an instant, I was gone.
I ran to school. When I got there,
my friends and classmates stopped to stare.

I looked a mess, without a doubt.
I had my coat on inside out.
It seems I wore my sister’s shirt.
My trouser legs were caked with dirt.
One shoe was green. The other, red,
and granny’s hat  was on my head.

My gramma got a camera
from my grampa as a gift.
She started snapping pictures.
She was speedy. She was swift.

She posted loads of photos,
sharing lots of shots online,
and got a zillion likes for her
expression and design.

She started taking selfies
and recording videos,
which gained her lots of followers
since she was good at those.

  Smiling Is Infectious

by Russel H. Conwell

Smiling is infectious,

you catch it like the flu,

When someone smiled at me today,

I started smiling too.

I passed around the corner

and someone saw my grin.

When he smiled I realized

I'd passed it on to him.

I thought about that smile,

then I realized its worth.

A single smile, just like mine

could travel round the earth.

So, if you feel a smile begin,

don't leave it undetected.

Let's start an epidemic quick,

and get the world infected!

Today is Very Boring:

By Jack Prelutsky

Today is very boring,

it’s a very boring day,

there is nothing much to look at,

there is nothing much to say,

there’s a peacock on my sneakers,

there’s a penguin on my head,

there’s a dormouse on my doorstep,

I am going back to bed.

Today is very boring,

it is boring through and through,

there is absolutely nothing

that I think I want to do,

I see giants riding rhinos,

and an ogre with a sword,

there’s a dragon blowing smoke rings,

I am positively bored.

Today is very boring,

I can hardly help by yawn,

there’s a flying saucer landing

in the middle of my lawn,

a volcano just erupted

less than half a mile away,

and I think I felt an earthquake,

          it’s a very boring day.

Sonnet 130

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;

Coral is far more red than her lips' red;

If snow be white; why then her breasts are dun;

If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.

I have seen roses damasked, red and white,

But no such roses see I in her cheeks,

And in some perfumes is there more delight

Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.

I love to hear her speak, yet well I know

That music hath a far more pleasing sound;

I grant I never saw a goddess go -

My mistress when she walks treads on the ground.

And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare

As any she belied with false compare.

«If …»

IF YOU CAN KEEP your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;

IF you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too;

IF you can wait and not be tired of waiting,

Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

Or, being hated, don’t give way to hating,

And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;

IF you can dream – and not make dreams your master,

IF you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;

IF you can meet with triumph and disaster

And treat those two imposters just the same;

IF you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,

And stoop and build’em up with wornout tools;

IF you can make one heap of all your winnings

And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings

And never breathe a word about your loss;

IF you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To serve you turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on;”

IF you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue

Or walk with kings-nor lose the common touch;

IF neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;

IF all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run –

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,

And – which is more – you’ll be a Man, my son!

My aunt calls me “Elizabeth.”
My grandma calls me “Liz.”
My sister calls me “Lisa,”
and the baby calls me “Wiz.”

My uncle calls me “Betty,”
while my grandpa calls me “Beth.”
My brother calls me “Dizzy Liz”
or sometimes “Lizard Breath.”

My teacher calls me “Betsy”
and my friends all call me “Bess.”
I find these nicknames more annoying
than you’d ever guess.

I wish that they would call me
by my real name instead.
I simply HATE those nicknames;
see, my real name is Fred.

 — Kenn Nesbitt

My sister thinks she’s Santa Claus.
It’s really kind of cute.
She likes to shout out “Ho, Ho, Ho!”
and wears a bright red suit.

She carries lots of toys around
inside a great big sack
and keeps her eight pet reindeer
with her sleigh out in the back.

She even has a workshop
where she makes a lot of noise
directing all the elves who help
by making brand new toys.

Then once a year, on Christmas Eve,
she flies off in her sleigh
delivering her gifts around the world
for Christmas Day.

She’d make a perfect Santa
which is why it’s just too bad
my sister can’t be Santa Claus;
see, Santa is our dad.

 — Kenn Nesbitt

Dear Santa

Dear Santa, this Christmas my list is quite small.
In fact, I need practically nothing at all.
My list is so short and so easy to read
because there’s just one thing I actually need.

A reindeer for Christmas is all I require;
a reindeer, of course, who’s an excellent flier.
I really don’t care if it’s Dasher or Dancer.
I’m okay with Cupid or Comet or Prancer.

Please don’t think I’m greedy; I only want one.
You won’t even miss him, and I’ll have such fun.
I promise I’ll feed him and treat him just right,
and take him out flying around every night.

You see, I’m not selfish. So, for my surprise
this Christmas, please bring me a reindeer that flies.
But if my request is a bit much for you,
I guess that an iPod will just have to do.

 — Kenn Nesbitt

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us, only sky

Imagine all the people
Livin' for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too

Imagine all the people
Livin' life in peace

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Teacher

It takes a special person
To teach a child in class
To just keep his attention
In a world that moves so fast

To show a child he is unique
With talents deep inside
To help to build his confidence
So he can beam with pride

To show a little patience
For a child who's lost his way
To a child who feels abandoned
Who has seen better days

To inspire and to motivate
So a child can learn and grow
To go into this big wide world
That has its highs and lows

You are a special person
You always give your best
And for every child that has your class
Their life is truly blessed

Love of my life, you've hurt me
You've broken my heart
And now you leave me
Love of my life, can't you see?

Bring it back, bring it back
Don't take it away from me
Because you don't know
What it means to me

Love of my life, don't leave me
You've taken my love
And now desert me
Love of my life, can't you see?

                                 Bring it back, bring it back (back)
                                Don't take it away from me

                                 Because you don't know
                                What it means to me

You will remember
When this is blown over
And everything's all by the way

When I grow older
I will be there at your side
To remind you how I still love you

When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be

And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree
There will be an answer, let it be
For though they may be parted, there is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be

And when the night is cloudy

 there is still a light that shines on me
Shinin' until tomorrow, let it be
I wake up to the sound of music, Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom,

let it be!
