2) актуализация лексического и грамматического материала;

T: Good afternoon, boys and girls! Welcome to our competition “Poetry Day” where you will be able to listen to the poems.

T: Today we'll speak about English, play many interesting games, sing songs and remember what we have learned at our lessons. We shall recite English poems and find out who can do it very well. The winners will receive diplomas.

First of all, let me introduce our jury. This is Evgenia Fedorovna, a teacher of English.

Now let me introduce our participants. They are the students of the 5th forms of our school.

Our competition is made up of two parts. The first is grammar contest “Enjoy English”. The second part is reciting poems. We have four teams. Are you ready to practice your knowledge?

Let’s turn to the second part of our competition.

It is time to start.  Try to recite the poems artistically and in a natural manner. We shall clap our hands after each poem. I hope you will enjoy your English.

Thanks a lot. I see all of you are very talented.

T: And now let’s begin our competition.

T: You have cards with the numbers. Now you will read the poem one by one and find out who does it best of all! Then we will sing a song together.

Учитель раздает каждому участнику карточки с куплетом/припевом песни “We wish you a Merry Christmas”, который предварительно разрезан по строчкам.

Поем песню“We wish you Merry Christmas!”

T: So I can see you can recite the poems very well. What poems do you like? Why do you like this poem?

But the best pupil is...

Let’s learn the results of our contest and listen to our jury. Our congratulations to the winners!

T: Thank you for your work. Our contest is over. See you next year, my friends!

1. My dog Jack

I have a dog,

His name is Jack,

His coat is white

With spots of black.

I take him out

Every day,

Such fun we have,

We run and play.

Such clever tricks

My dog can do,

I love my dog,

He loves me, too.

2. Honey is sweeter than sugar

Honey is sweeter than sugar,

Coffee is stronger than tea,

Juice is better than water,

You can’t be smarter than me.

A peach is sweeter than a cake,

A sea is deeper than a lake,

A boy is noisier than a bee,

A girl is shorter than a tree.

3. For want of a nail

For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.

4. Thinking of snow

The day is new,

The snow is white,

It’s a beautiful day,

Oh, what a sight!

It’s on the ground,

It’s on the rocks,

It’s in the trees

And in my socks!

Later the sun

 Will melt the snow,

All things must end

And so it must go.

But again it will come

To cover the ground

And fill the trees

For miles around.

      (Bill Alexander)

5. January is Wet and Cold

January is wet and cold,

February is when we all feel old.

March is windy,

April – rain,

May brings birds and flowers again.

June is sunny,

July’s a dream,

August – berries and ice-cream.

Gold September,

October – brown –

Leaves change colour

And fall down.

Grey November –

Nights are long,

December – Christmas comes along.

6. Shoes

My father has a pair of shoes

So beautiful to see.

I want to wear my father's shoes.

They are too big for me.

My baby brother has a pair

As cunning as can be.

My feet won't go into that pair.

They are too small for me.

There's only one thing that I can do

Till I get small or grown.

If I want to have some fitting shoes

I'll have to wear my own.

        (Tom Robinson)

7. Spring is coming

Edith Segal

Spring is coming, spring is coming,

Birdies, build your nest;

Weave together straw and feather

Doing each your best.

Spring is coming, spring is coming,

Flowers are coming too.

Pansies, lilies, daffodilies

Now are coming through.

Spring is coming, spring is coming,

All around is fair;

Shimmer and quiver on the river,

Joy is everywhere.

8. A Child’s Wish

I want to live

And not to die!

I want to laugh

And not to cry!

I want to feel

The summer sun.

I want to sing

When life is fun.

I want to fly

Into the blue.

I want to swim

 As fishes do.

I want to stretch out

Friendly hands

To all the young of other lands.

I want to laugh

 And not to cry!

I want to live

And not to die!

9. Gathering Leaves

Spades take up leaves
No better than spoons,
And bags full of leaves
Are light as balloons.

I make a great noise
Of rustling all day
Like rabbit and deer
Running away.

But the mountains I raise
Elude my embrace,
Flowing over my arms
And into my face.

        (Robert Frost)

10. My Love

My love is like an ocean
It goes down so deep
My love is like a rose
Whose beauty you want to keep.

My love is like a river
That will never end
My love is like a dove
With a beautiful message to send.

My love is like a song
That goes on and on forever
My love is like a prisoner
It's you that I surrender.

        (Tasha Shores)

11. The Monkeys and the Crocodile

Five little monkeys

Sitting in a tree,

Teasing Uncle Crocodile

Merry as can be

Jumping high, jumping low,

“Dear Uncle Crocodile,

Come and take a bite!”

Five little monkeys

Jumping in the air,

Heads up, tails up,

Little do they care.

Jumping far and near:

Poor Uncle Crocodile,

Aren’t you hungry, dear.

        (Tom Robinson)

12. Spring

Spring is here, Spring is here

That’s what people say.

The birds are flying north again,

To wake us every day.

Spring is here, Spring is here,

That’s what people say.

We can run and jump again,

We put out sleds away.

13. My mother

Who said “Goodnight”,

When I was a child?

My mother.

Who dressed my dolls

In clothes so gay

And showed me often how to play?

My mother.

Who ran to help me when I fell

And who could funny stories tell?

My mother.

Who sits at my head when I am in bed?

My mother.

Who is so nice, who is so kind,

Another so dear you’ll never find?

My mother.

14. Planes and people

Planes are large and very small -People wait for them in a hall.

Planes have tails and metal wings

And a lot of useful things.

You can use a baggage truck,

Wave your hands and say “Good luck”

Take your bag and stick a mark –

You can see it in the dark.

Stewards welcome people in,

And the endless flights begin.

15. My Dog Jack

I have a dog, his name is Jack,

His coat is white with spots of black.

I take him out every day,

Such fun we have, we run and play.

Such clever tricks my dog can do,

I love my dog, he love me, too.

16. School Is Over

School is over,
Oh, what fun!
Lessons finished,
Play begun.
Who’ll run fastest,
You or I?
Who’ll laugh loudest?
Let us try.

(by Robert l. Stevenson)

17. Mice

I think mice
Are rather nice.
Their tails are long,
Their faces are small,
They haven’t any
Chins at all.
Their ears are pink,
Their teeth are white,
They run about
The house at night.
They nibble things
They shouldn’t touch,
And no one seems
To like them much.
But I think mice
Are nice.

18. Autumn Leaves

The leaves are dropping from the trees,
Yellow, brown, and red.
They patter softly like the rain –
One landed on my head!

But when the sleep of winter comes
They cuddle down to rest;
Then Mother Nature tucks them in
With snow as she thinks best.

(by Margaret P. Sutphen)

19. I’ll Try

The little boy who says “I’ll try”,
Will climb to the hill-top.
The little boy who says “I can’t”,
Will at the bottom stop.

I’ll try” does great things every day;
“I can’t” gets nothing done.
Be sure that you say “I’ll try”,
And let “I can’t” alone.

20.

Sports are good for all:

Swimming, skating, basketball,

Football, tennis, volleyball…

They are useful, and for all.

We can run and jump, and ski,

It is fun for you and me!

21.

I can walk, I can run,

I can have a lot of fun.

I can hop, I can jump.

If you can’t, you’ll be plump.

I can go, I can hop.

Tell me, if I can hop off.

22.

One, one-we can run.

Two, two-what can you do?

Three, three –I can ski.

 Four, four-he can go.

 Five, five-it can fly.

 Six, six- we can skip.

 Seven, seven- he can travel.

 Eight, eight- she can skate.

 Nine, nine- he can ride.

 Ten, ten-try it again!
