      New Year’s Day is a merry holiday. I like it very much. It is in winter and there is usually a lot of snow on the ground, on the trees and on the bushes. I do not go to school because I have winter holidays at that time.

      On the 31st of December I decorate a New Year tree with small balls, flags, toys and lights of different colours: red, green, blue and yellow. My Mum cooks a festive supper and Dad helps her. We put presents for each other under the New Year tree. After supper we go for a walk. There are lots of people in the streets. They sing songs and dance. New Year’s Day is my favorite holiday.

3) MY BIRTHDAY      

             My name is Polly. My birthday is on the 2nd of October. I like this day very much. My mother makes a big cake for me. I run to school and invite my friends to the party.

             I come home at 2 o’clock in the afternoon and help my mother to lay the table. I bring cups and put them on the table. Mother puts the cake in the middle of the table. At four o’clock in the afternoon my friends come. They give me presents and say: “Happy birthday to you”. I am Happy to see my friends and get the presents. Then we sit at the table, drink tea and eat the cake. The cake is very tasty. We talk, laugh, and have a good time.

4) IN TOWN

            I like to go for a walk to the town center with my parents. We walk along the new streets to the square in the center of the town. On one side of the square there is a post- office. On the other side of the square, opposite the post office, we can see a beautiful building of the theatre. There is a large hotel near the theatre.

           We walk on. In the streets we can see many new buildings: a cinema, a café, the town library and a hospital. Then we return home by bus.

5) IN THE VILLAGE

         Every summer I go to the small village where my grandmother and grandfather live. It is situated not far from Saint Petersburg. My grandparents live in a big wooden house. There is a garden near the house. There is a lot of different fruit and vegetables in the garden.

         In the village I play, walk with my friends and ride a bicycle. Sometimes I help my grandfather and go fishing. If the weather is good, I sunbath and swim in the river. If the weather is bad, I stay in the house and read books. I like to spend summer in the village very much.

6)THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION

       Russia is well-known as the largest country in the world. Russia’s area covers a big part of Europe and Asia. Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Novosibirsk are the biggest cities.  The population of Russia is about 143 million.

     The Coat of arms is represented by the double-headed eagle with the mounted figure slaying the black dragon in the center of it. The black dragon can be a symbol of enemies. The Russian flag consist of three horizontal fields - white, blue and red.

7)WEATHER IN BRITAIN

       People talk about the weather more in Britain than in most parts of the world. When two Englishmen are introduced to each other, if they cannot think of anything else to talk about, they talk about the weather. The weather is also considered a safe topic of conversation.

      British people say: Other countries have a climate, in England we have weather.

The weather in Britain changes very quickly. During the day it may be fine and the evening may be cool. Every daily paper publishes a weather forecast. Both the radio and TV give the weather forecast several times a day.
