     Цель: Развитие  коммуникативной компетенции в рамках темы «Winter    

                 sports and games»

    Задачи:

           1. Развитие навыков аудирования

           2. Развитие умений говорения по теме «Winter sports and games»

           3. Отрабатывание навыков письма

           4. Совершенствование  навыков информационного чтения

Grammar: using verbs – do, go, play

Оборудование: проектор, раздаточный материал

                                                         Ход занятия

                                            I. Подготовительный этап.

1. Приветствие.

     Hello everybody. At the previous  lessons we talked about the  the importance of healthy lifestyle and sport. Now it is  time to speak about sports and games included in the program of Winter Olympic Games.  

  2. Речевая зарядка

      Look at the spidergram and give more words related to the topic sport.

                                                  II. Основной этап

    1. Let’s  speak about Olympic games.

Look at the pictures (cлайд №2). What can you see?

These are the famous symbols of Olympic Games. Do you know what they mean? Read about the history of Games and fill in the gaps.

                                            Symbols  

        The Olympic Games have many important ____that most people recognize. The five rings that appear on the Olympic ___ (coloured yellow, green,  blue, black and red) were introduced in 1914. They represent the five of ____

Africa, America, Australia, Asia and Europe. The flag is raised in the ____city and then flown to the next one where it is kept until the next Games. The Olympic____, a major part of the ancient Games, was brought  back in 1928 and is carried with great fanfare and publicity  to the host city where it lights the burning ____of the Games.  It is kept burning until the close of the Games. The torch symbolizes purity, the drive for perfection and the ____for victory.

     Guess what continent each ring symbolizes.

       2. Now let`s speak about winter sports included in the program of the Olympic Games. There are 15of them: (слайды №3,4,5)

 

      3. Match the sport s to the descriptions, then look at the picture and find each kind of sports (слайд №6).

SPORTS

Descriptions

        Alpine skiing

The sport of sliding down snow-covered hills on skis with fixed-heel bindings. It is also commonly known as downhill skiing 

Biathlon

A winter sport in which teams of two or four make timed runs down narrow, twisting, banked, iced tracks in a gravity-powered sled. The timed runs are combined to calculate the final score 

Bobsleigh

The Olympic sport in which individuals, pairs, or groups perform spins, jumps, footwork and other intricate and challenging moves on ice skates

Cross-country skiing

A sport that involves descending a slope that is covered with snow on a snowboard attached to a rider's feet using a special boot set onto a mounted binding. 

Curling

A form of ski touring in which participants propel themselves across snow-covered terrain using skis and poles which is popular in many places with large snowfields, primarily Northern Europe, Canada, and Alaska 

Figure skating

It is a sport in which skiers go down a take-off ramp, jump and attempt to land as far as possible down the hill below

Freestyle skiing

A winter sport in which athletes compete in both cross-country skiing and ski jumping 

Hockey

A competitive form of ice skating in which the competitors race each other in traveling a certain distance on skates

Luge

A small one- or two-person sled on which one sleds supine and feet-first. Steering is done by flexing the sled's runners with the calf of each leg or exerting opposite shoulder pressure to the seat

Nordic Combined

A form of skiing which used to encompass two disciplines: aerials, and moguls. Besides the two disciplines consists of Ski cross, Half Pipe and Slope Style 

Short track speed skating

Sport  are known all over the world (in Canada, the United States, and most of Europe including Finland, Sweden, Russia and the Czech Republic) as a team sport played on ice. It is one of the world's fastest sports, with players on skates capable of going high speeds on natural or artificial ice surfaces

Skeleton

A form of competitive ice speed skating. In competitions, multiple skaters (typically between four and six) skate on an oval ice track 

Ski jumping

Sporting event made up of two disciplines. It  usually combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting 

Snowboarding

A fast winter sliding sport in which an individual person rides a small sled down a frozen track while lying face down, during which athletes experience forces up to 5g 

Speed skating

It is a sport in which players slide stones across a sheet of ice towards a target area. It is related to bowls, bole and shuffleboard. Two teams, each of four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called "rocks", across the ice curling sheet towards the house, a circular target marked on the ice

      4. Look at the pictures and say what sports you need this equipment for? (слайд№7)

  Let`s work together. Divided into two teams. Each team should find 14 sport  equipments in Square. Than make sentences with these words

    5. Now let’s  watch the video about winter sports. First pay your attention to the words:

       (Mountain resort; warmly dressed; touring; hockey fan, après ski; ski lift).

Watch the video and say what sports Tara does  and what equipment she needs for each of them.

   Key: (jacket, gloves, helmet, skates,  snowboard, skating, hockey, ski jumping)

    6. Look at the screen and mark the statements Yes or No.(слайд №8)

1. Resort is a place to relax and have fun;

2. Tara always wear a helmet;

3. Tara has her own snowboard;

4. There is no an ice rink at the resort;

5. Tara likes playing hockey with her friends;

6. She is a ski jumping fan;

7. The best part of doing winter sports is the après ski.

Key: Yes - 1,3,5,7;   No – 2,4,6

   7.Speak to your partner about your favorite winter sport, say about equipments and rules.

 8. When we speak about sports and games we always use verbs to play, to do, to go. What is the difference?

Use Play to tell about team games (hockey, football)

Use Go with sports end in -ing like snowboarding, skating, curling

Use Do before individual kinds of sports like yoga, fitness or morning exercises.

    Now let`s practice.  Collocate the verbs: do, play, go with the sports below

         9.Let’s  have a brake and know something interesting about the favorite word of all hockey fans! (слайд№9)

  Do you know that In Russia, when the player of our team kicks the puck into the goal of the adversaries  we say «goal» what means ворота(цель!).

  In America and England fans say «score» what means – cчет!

      10. Read the talk between two friends and fill in the gaps using following words:  match,  score,  defeated,  goal, athlete

-  Did you watch the hockey__ with Canada on TV yesterday?

-  Oh, no I missed  it!  What`s the__?

-  4and1, our team__ them in the very beginning!

- And who scored the first__ ?

-  The young player. He is said to be a__ of high promise.

     11. Work in pairs. Imagine that you are the special reporter of Olympic Games. Speak to your partner about  sport event(competition, game, match).

                                          III. Заключительный этап

   1. Подведение итогов: Today we have leant winter kinds of sports in the program of Olympic Games. We have known about different equipments and interesting facts about games.

   2. Домашнее задание : For the next class make a slid show about the winter sports or games. Speak about: equipment; rules; famous athletes. Work in pairs.
