Организационный момент:

     Good afternoon, boys and girls! I’m glad to see you today at our quiz “Travelling around Great Britain”! Two teams will take part in the quiz.

     Состав команд был определен на предыдущем уроке.

Правила игры: 

     Now I’d like to tell you about the rules of the quiz. The quiz has six rounds, the topic of every round you’ll see at the interactive board. In every round of the quiz there’ll be different tasks, that you’ll have to do for a limited period of time. Every right answer in the round brings the team a certain quantity of points:

The first round – 1 point

The second round – 2 points

The third round – 3 points

The fourth round – 4 points

The fifth round – 5 points

The sixth round – 6 points

     The team which gets the most quantity of points to the end of the quiz wins. Let’s begin our quiz!

The first round “Great Britain”

     We begin traveling and the first round of our quiz is called “Great Britain”. In this round I will ask the questions about Great Britain to every participant of the both teams. If the answer is right, the team gets one point, if it’s wrong, the team gets no points. The team which gets more points wins in the round.

1. Great Britain consists of … (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland)

2. Where is Great Britain situated? (On the British Isles, in the North Sea)

3. What is the main river of Great Britain?  (the Thames)

4. What is the official language of Great Britain? (English)

5.  In Britain the head of the State is… (the Queen)

6.  What university is the oldest in Great Britain (Oxford University)

7.  The first woman Prime Minister in Britain was called… (Margaret Thatcher, 1979)

8. What is the famous drink in Great Britain? (tea)

9. The Union Jack is the British… (flag)

10. Who is the author of “Robinson Crusoe”? (Daniel Defoe)

The second round “England”

     And now we come to the second round which is called “England”. Every team gets a card with seven questions about England. Every right answer brings the team two points. I’ll give you 3 minutes to do this task.

1. What is the capital of England?  (London)

2. What is the emblem of England?  (a red rose)

3. What English pop group is famous all over the world? (The Beatles)

4. What river is London situated on? (The Thames)

5. The largest park in London is …   (Hyde Park).

6. The museum of wax models in London is called… (Madame Tussaud’s Museum)

7. The historical museum in London, which earlier was a fortress, a prison, a place of execution and even a zoo. (The Tower of London)

The third round “Political system of Great Britain”

     We move on and now the third round “Political system of Great Britain”. Every team gets a card with five questions in the form of the test about political system of Great Britain. Every right answer brings the team three points. I’ll give you 2 minutes to do this task.

The fourth round “Scotland”

     Now it’s high time to come to the fourth round which is called “Scotland”. Every team gets a card with seven questions about Scotland. Every right answer brings the team four points. I’ll give you 3 minutes to do this task.

1. Where is Scotland situated? (In the north of Great Britain)

2. What is the capital of Scotland? (Edinburgh)

3. What is the emblem of Scotland? (a thistle)

4. What is the Scottish national costume for men? (the kilt)

5. What lake does the famous Scottish monster live in? (Loch Ness)

6. What is the highest mountain in Scotland? (Ben Nevis)

7. What is the national musical instrument in Scotland? (a bagpipe)

The fifth round “London sights”

     We continue to travel around Great Britain and welcome to the fifth round “London sights”. Every team gets a card with the descriptions of three sights of London. The task of the team is to guess  what sightseeing of London the matter is about. Every right answer brings the team five points.  There are four minutes for you to do this task.

     This palace is very beautiful. It is the official residence of the Queen. Every day at 11.30 a.m. you can see the ceremony of the Changing of the Guard in front of this place. In front of it there is Queen Victoria Memorial. There are 600 rooms, 78 bathrooms, a cinema, a swimming pool and even a post office.                                                                                    

(Buckingham Palace)

   

     It is the name of the great bell which strikes the hour. It is in the Clock Tower of the Houses of Parliament. It was made in 1858. The clock’s four white faces look north, south, east and west. Many people think it was something to do with Sir Benjamin Hall.

                                                                                                                                            (Big Ben)

      It is one of London’s most famous symbols. It is a wonder of the world. It is over the river Thames. It was opened in 1894. You get fantastic views of London from the high walkways. It houses an excellent museum telling the story of its design, construction and history.

(Tower Bridge)

      It is a symbol of England. It was built in the 11th century by Edward the Confessor. The coronation of all British Kings and Queens takes place in this beautiful building. Many British monarchs, writers, poets, musicians and scientists are also buried here.

(Westminster Abbey)

     

     It is the greatest work of England’s greatest architect, Christopher Wren. It was built after the Great Fire of 1666. It took him thirty-five years to finish it. When Wren died he was buried in his this magnificent building. There are memorials to many famous men of England here.

(St Paul’s Cathedral)

     

    It is the heart of tourists’ London. It is a good place for meetings and demonstrations. There is Nelson’s Column in the centre of it. Thousands of pigeons fly here and people feed them.

     And now the last round of the quiz “Holidays in Great Britain”. Every team gets a card with five questions about the holidays of Great Britain. Every right answer brings the team six points. I’ll give you 3 minutes to do this task.

1. When is Christmas celebrated? (on the 25th of  December)

2. Autumn British holiday when  people burn bonfires. (Guy Fawkes Day)  

3. Traditional sports competitions which are held in summer in Scotland. (Highland Games)

4. What holiday do the Welsh celebrate on the 1st of March? The holiday got the name in honor of the national saint of Wales. (St. David’s Day)

5. When is St. Valentine’s Day celebrated?  (On the 14th of February)
