Pledge of Allegiance to the Earth

“I pledge allegiance to the Earth

and to the flora and fauna and human life it supports;

What can you do?

Here’s a list of practical ideas. All of them can help you to help the environment.

1. Save as much water as possible.
2. Buy fresh food that doesn’t need a lot of packing.
3. Try to save paper. Buy and use recycled (to recycle – возвращать в оборот) paper as often as possible.
4. Avoid “throw-away” products.
5. Don’t buy products made from rare or protected species.
6. Use public transport as often as possible.
7. Look for aerosols which haven’t got any of the chemicals called CFCs (Chloro-fluoro-carbons (хлорфторуглероды)) in them.
8. Don’t buy hamburgers or pizzas in plastic boxes which contain CFCs.
9. Don’t leave on electric lights, TV, hi-fi, etc, if you’re not using them.
10. Try to throw away at least 25% less rubbish.
11. Protect animals in danger by law.
12. Open more national parks.
13. Plant more new forests.
14. Turn rubbish into energy.
