Stepmother: Cinderella, wash the dishes. .. Cinderella, clean the house. .. Cinderella, work, work, work!

Narrator: Her Stepmother is not good.  She is bad.  One of Cinderella’s Stepsisters is fat with a big nose.  The other one is thin, with big ears, and they don’t like to work either.

Stepsister 1: Cinderella, come here!

Stepsister 2: Cinderella, sweep the floor!

Stepsister 1: Cinderella, clean my shoes!

Stepsister 2: Cinderella, comb my hair!

Narrator: Cinderella is very beautiful and hard worker.  She is good to her Stepmother and to her Stepsisters.  One day they receive an invitation.

Stepsister 1: Mother, read it!

Stepsister 2: What does it say?

Stepmother: It says…  Every woman is invited to a ball.

Cinderella: Oh, I want to go to the ball.  I like to dance.

Stepsisters: You want to go to the ball?  You must be crazy!

Cinderella: Yes, I want to go to the ball.

Narrator: Cinderella works hard.  She starts making the dresses for her Stepmother and her Stepsisters.  She doesn’t have time to make her own dress.

Stepsisters: We are going to the ball!  We are going to the ball!

Stepmother: If you don’t have a dress, you will not go to the ball.

Narrator: Cinderella starts to cry.

Cinderella: I don’t have a pretty dress.  I have an ugly dress.  I am not going to the ball.

Stepsisters: What a shame!  We have pretty dresses.  Good-bye!

Narrator: Suddenly, Cinderella sees a very beautiful woman.  It´s her Fairy Godmother.

Fairy Godmother: Now you have a pretty dress.

Narrator: Cinderella looks at her dress and says.

Cinderella: Yes, I have a pretty dress!  I am going to the ball.  I am happy!

Fairy Godmother: Just remember that you have to come back at twelve o’clock.  Don’t forget!

Cinderella: No, I won’t forget!  Good-bye.

Narrator: Cinderella goes to the ball, and when she enters the palace everybody look at her.

Girl 1: What a pretty girl!

Girl 2: Who is she?

Narrator: The handsome prince looks at her and says.

Prince: I want to dance with her.

Narrator: She walks to where she is, and says.

Prince: Do you want to dance with me?

Cinderella: Yes, I want to dance with you.

Narrator: And they danced all night.  Suddenly, Cinderella hears the clock strike.

Clock: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve.

Cinderella: I have to go!

Narrator: Cinderella runs and runs outside the palace, but she drops one of her shoes.  The Prince runs after her, but he doesn’t see her.

Prince: Wait!  Wait!  What is your name?  Where do you live?  Wait!

Narrator: Then he picks up the shoe and says.

Prince: Where is she?  I don’t even know her name.  I don’t know anything about her.  I am very sad.

Narrator: Next morning, when the prince wakes up, he says.

Prince: I have to find my pretty lady.  I have her shoe!

Narrator: He goes to town and looks for her in every house there is.

Prince: Is the pretty lady here?

Woman 1: No, she is not, and I don’t know where she is.

Narrator: The prince goes to another house… and another one… and another one. He doesn’t find her.  At last, he goes to Cinderella’s house.

Prince: Is the pretty lady here?

Stepmother: Yes, she is.  That is my daughter’s shoe….  Daughter, come here.

Stepsister 1: Yes, mother.

Stepmother: Try on the shoe.

Narrator: Her daughter, who is very fat, tries to put on the shoe.

Stepsister 1: I can’t.  This shoe is too small, and my foot is fat.  It hurts!  This is not my shoe.

Narrator: Meanwhile, Cinderella is coming down the stairs and says.

Cinderella: That shoe is mine.

Stepsisters: Ha, ha, ha… it’s funny!

Cinderella: Yes, that shoe is mine!  And I have the other one.

Narrator: Suddenly she appears with her pretty dress, and once again she looks very beautiful.

Prince: I love you!   I love you!  Do you want to marry me?

Cinderella: Yes, I want to marry you.

Narrator: And now Cinderella and the Prince live happily in the palace.

SCRIPT:

Narrator: Once upon a time there were a king and queen who wanted to have a child.

King and Queen: Ah, if only we had a child!

Narrator: But they never had one.  One day the queen was bathing, a frog leaped out of the water onto the land, and said to the Queen.

Frog: Your wish shall be fulfilled, before a year has gone by, you shall have a daughter.

Narrator: What the frog had said came true, and the queen had a little girl who was very pretty.

King: I am so happy with my precious daughter.  I want to give a great feast.

Narrator: The King invited not only his family and friends, but also the thirteen fairies in his kingdom.  He only had twelve golden plates for them to eat out of, so one of them was not invited. The feast was held with splendor, and the fairies presented their magic gifts to the baby – one gave virtue, another – beauty, a third – riches, and so on with everything in the world that one can wish for.  Suddenly the thirteenth came into the palace really angry.

Thirteenth Fairy: The king’s daughter shall in her fifteenth birthday prick herself with a spindle, and fall down dead.  Ha, ha, ha, ha.

Narrator: And, without saying another word, she turned around and left the room. They were all shocked, but the twelfth fairy, whose good wish still remained unspoken, came forward, and since she could not undo the evil spell, but only soften it, she said.

Twelfth Fairy: My Queen, it shall not be death, but a deep sleep of a hundred years, into which the princess shall fall.

King: Listen to me all of you!  I order you to burn every spindle in the whole kingdom.  Nothing will happen to my little daughter.

Narrator: As years passed by, the gifts of the fairies were completely fulfilled on the young girl.  She was so beautiful, modest, good-natured, and wise, that everyone who saw her, loved her.  One day, when she was fifteen years old, the king and queen were not at home, and the girl was left in the palace alone. She visited every place of the palace, looked into rooms, and bedrooms, and at last she came to an old tower.

Princess: I have never been into that tower.  I will go up and see what’s up there.

Narrator: She climbed up the narrow winding-staircase, and reached a little door.

Princess: I wonder what’s inside that room.  I will take a look.

Narrator: A rusty key was in the lock, and when she turned it the door sprang open, and there in a little room sat an old woman with a spindle, busily spinning her flax.

Princess: Good day, old woman. What are you doing?

Old Woman: Oh, come on in, little girl.  I am spinning.

Princess: What sort of thing is that, that rattles round so merrily?  I want to spin too.

Old Woman: Come near, child, don’t be afraid.

Narrator: As soon as she touched the spindle, the magic spell was fulfilled, and she pricked her finger with it, she fell down on the bed and went into a deep sleep. This sleep extended over the whole palace, including the king and the queen.  After many years, a prince from another country heard an old man talking about the castle.

Prince: Tell me old man, is it true that a beautiful princess has been asleep for a hundred years in that castle?

Old Man: It is true, your Majesty.  Nobody can enter the castle.  Many kings' sons have died trying to get inside.

Prince: But, how can that be?

Old Man: There’s a thorny hedge that keeps them from entering.

Prince: And, do you know the name of the princess?

Old Man: Her name is Briar-Rose. The King and Queen and the whole court are also asleep.

Prince: I am not afraid of that thorny hedge. I will go and see the beautiful Briar-Rose.

Old Man: I am warning you not to go.  It is dangerous, and probably you will not return alive.

Prince: You will see old man.  I will come back, and Briar Rose will come back with me.

Narrator: When the king’s son came near to the thorn-hedge, it was nothing but large and beautiful flowers which let him pass unhurt, and then they closed again behind him like a hedge.

Prince: The old man was right. Everybody is sleeping, even the horses, and the pigeons, the cook and the maid.  Who could be so evil to do this!

Narrator: When the Prince entered the great hall, he saw by the throne, the king and queen.

Prince: I must keep looking for the princess. Oh, I see a small door over there, maybe she’s there.

Narrator: He opened the door into the little room where Briar-Rose was sleeping.

Prince: Oh, she’s as beautiful as everybody said.   I have to kiss her!

Narrator: But as soon as he kissed her, Briar-Rose opened her eyes and awoke, and looked at him quite sweetly.

Princess: Oh, what happened to me?  I can hardly remember… who are you?

Prince: I am a Prince from a faraway country.  I am so happy that you woke up from a long sleep.

Princess: The last thing I remember now is that I was talking to an old woman, and then I hurt my finger with a spindle.

Prince: You must forget about all of that.  Now you are fine and safe.

Narrator: Then the king and queen awoke, and the whole court and they looked at each other in great astonishment.  And everybody in the castle woke up, the horses and pigeons, the cook and the maid.

Prince: Oh sweet Princess, I love you.  Will you marry me?

Princess: Yes, I will.

Narrator: And soon the marriage of the Prince and Briar-Rose was celebrated with great splendor, and they lived happy to the end of their days.

Little Gingerbread Boy: I’ve run away from an old woman, an old man, and a cow, a horse, and a pig and I can run away from you, too! Run, run, as fast as you can! You can’t catch me! I’m the Gingerbread Man!

Fox: Why do you think I can’t?

Little Gingerbread Boy: Oh no, a river!

Fox: Jump on my tail and I will take you across.

Narrator: The Gingerbread boy jumped on the fox’s tail. The fox swam into the river.

Fox: Little Gingerbread boy you better get on my back or you’ll get wet.

Narrator: The fox swam deeper.

Fox: My back is tired. Little Gingerbread boy you better get on my nose.

Narrator: But as soon as the fox reached the shore, the fox threw back his head and gobbled him up!

Fox: Mmm, tasty!

Narrator: Once upon a time, a king and queen ruled over a distant land.  One winter day, the queen was doing needle work while looking through the window, when a bird flew by distracting the queen and she pricked her finger. A single drop of blood fell on the snow outside her window. As she looked at the blood on the snow she said.

Queen: Oh, how I wish that I had a daughter that had skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood, and hair as black as ebony.

Narrator: The queen got her wish when she gave birth to a baby girl who had skin white as snow, lips red as blood, and hair black as ebony. They named her Snow White, but sadly, the queen died. Soon after, the king married a new woman who was beautiful, but proud and cruel. She had studied dark magic and owned a magic mirror, of which she would daily ask.

Step-Mother: Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the most beautiful of them all?

Mirror: You, my Queen, are the most beautiful of them all.

Narrator: This pleased the queen.   She knew that her magical mirror could speak only the truth. One morning the queen asked.

Step-Mother: Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the most beautiful of them all?.

Mirror: You, my queen, are the most beautiful; it is true. But Snow White is even more beautiful than you.

Narrator: The Queen was angry and ordered her huntsman to take Snow White into the woods to be killed.

Step-Mother: Go to the forest, take the girl and kill her! And as a proof, bring me her heart! Ha, ha, ha, ha!

Huntsman: Yes, my Queen, I will do as you say.

Narrator: The poor huntsman took Snow White into the forest, but could not kill her.

Huntsman: Snow White, I cannot do this, you have to escape, go, run, run!

Snow White: Thank you good man, I will always be grateful for what you have done.

Narrator: Then the huntsman killed a deer and took his heart to the Queen.

Huntsman: Here, my Queen, I did as you told me. Take her heart.

Step-Mother: Ha, ha, ha, ha, now, I am the most beautiful of them all!

Narrator: Meanwhile, Snow White was at the forest.

Snow White: Oh, I am all alone in the great forest; I don’t know what to do.

Narrator: Then she began to run.  And just as evening was about to fall she saw a little house and went inside.

Snow White: Oh, this house is so beautiful. Everything is so small and clean.

Narrator: The table was set, and there was food on the plates.

Snow White: I am so hungry. I will eat a few vegetables and a little bread from each little plate and from each cup I will drink a bit of milk.

Narrator: Since she was so tired, she lay down on one of the little beds and fell fast asleep.

Narrator: After dark, the owners of the house returned home. They were the seven dwarves who mined for gold in the mountains. As soon as they arrived home, they saw that someone had been there.

Dwarf 1: Who has been sitting in my chair?

Dwarf 2: Who has been eating from my plate?

Dwarf 3: Who has been eating my bread?

Dwarf 4: Who has been eating my vegetables?

Dwarf 5: Who has been eating with my fork?

Dwarf 6: Who has been drinking from my cup?

Narrator: But the seventh one, looking at his bed, found Snow White lying there asleep.

Dwarf 7: Look over here, come quick!

Narrator: The seven dwarves all came running up and they cried out with amazement.

Dwarves: Oh, good heaven! This child is beautiful!

Narrator: They did not wake her up, but let her continue to sleep in the bed. The next morning Snow White woke up, and when she saw the seven dwarves she was frightened.

Snow White: Oh, no!

Dwarf 1: Don’t be afraid of us. What is your name?

Snow White: My name is Snow White.

Dwarf 2: How did you find your way to our house?

Snow White: My stepmother tried to kill me, then the huntsman let me free and that’s how I had to run the entire day through the forest, finally I got to your house.

Narrator: The dwarves spoke with each other for awhile and then said.

Dwarves: If you will keep house for us, and cook, make beds, wash, sew, and knit, and keep everything clean and orderly, then you can stay with us, and you shall have everything that you want.

Snow White: Yes, with all my heart.

Narrator: So Snow White lived happily with the dwarves. Every morning they went into the mountains looking for gold, and in the evening when they came back home Snow White had their meal ready and their house clean.  Meanwhile, at the palace.

Step-Mother: Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who in this land is the most beautiful of all?

Mirror: You, my Queen, are beautiful; it is true. But Snow White, beyond the mountains with the seven dwarves, is still a thousand times more beautiful than you.

Step-Mother: Now I understand!   Oh, that huntsman deceived me…  I have to think of something.

Narrator: She went into her most secret room, and she made a poisoned apple.

Step-Mother: With this poisoned apple you will die, Snow White! Ha, ha, ha, ha.

Narrator: From the outside the apple was beautiful and shiny. But anyone who might eat a little piece of it would die.

Step-Mother: I have to disguise myself so she can’t recognize me. Now I will go to those dwarves’ house.

Narrator: She travelled to the dwarves’ house and knocked on the door. Snow White put her head out of the window, and said.

Snow White: I must not let anyone in.

Step-Mother: Would you like to taste one of my sweet apples?

Snow White: No, I cannot accept anything from strangers.

Step Mother: Are you afraid of poison?  Look, I’ll cut the apple in two. You eat half and I will eat the other half.

Narrator: But only one half of the apple was poisoned.

Snow White: Well, all right, I see that you are also eating part of it, so give me the other half.

Narrator: She barely had a bite in her mouth when she fell to the ground dead.

Step Mother: Ha, ha, ha, White as snow, red as blood, black as ebony wood! The dwarves shall never awaken you.  Good-bye Snow White! Ha, ha, ha, ha.

Narrator: Back at home she asked her mirror.

Step Mother: Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who in this land is the most beautiful of all?

Mirror: You, my Queen, are the most beautiful of all.

Narrator: When the dwarves came home that evening they found Snow White lying on the ground.

Dwarf 3: Snow White, wake up, what happened to you.

Dwarf 4: She is not breathing at all. She is dead!

Narrator: They lifted her up and looked at her for a long time.

Dwarf 5: Snow White, wake up, talk to us, please.

Narrator: But nothing helped. She was dead.  They laid her on a bed of straw, and all seven dwarves sat next to her and cried for three days. They were going to bury her, but she still looked as fresh as a living person, and still had her beautiful red cheeks.

Dwarf 6: We cannot bury her in the black earth.

Dwarf 7: Let’s make a transparent glass coffin made, so we can see her from all sides.

Narrator: And they did it, then they put her inside the coffin.

Dwarf 1: We have to place the coffin outside on a mountain, and one of us will always stay with it and watched over her.

Dwarves: Yes, we will do that.

Narrator: One day a prince entered these woods.   He saw the coffin on the mountain with beautiful Snow White in it.

Prince: Let me have the coffin. I will give you anything you want for it.

Dwarves: We will not sell it for all the gold in the world.

Prince: Then give it to me.  I cannot live without being able to her.

Narrator: The good dwarves felt sorry for him and gave him the coffin.

Dwarves: Take good care of her, we will always love her.

Prince: I will. She will be my most precious treasure.

Narrator: The prince had his servants carry the coffin away on their shoulders. But then it happened that one of them stumbled on some brush.

Prince: Be careful, watch your steps. I will never forgive you if something happens to her.

Narrator: But this dislodged from Snow White’s throat the piece of poisoned apple.   She opened her eyes, lifted the lid from her coffin, sat up, and was alive again.

Snow White: Where am I?

Prince: You are with me.  I love you! Come with me to my father’s castle. You will be my wife.

Narrator: At that moment Snow White fell in love with him. Their wedding was planned with great splendor and majesty. Snow White’s wicked step-mother was invited to the wedding, but before leaving her castle, she asked her mirror.

Step-Mother: Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who in this land is the most beautiful of all?

Mirror: You, my Queen, are beautiful; it is true. But the young queen is a thousand times more beautiful than you.

Step-Mother: I have to see that for myself!

Narrator: When she arrived at the wedding, she saw Snow White.

Step-Mother: No!  You’re dead!  You’re dead!

Prince: Take this woman away from this land!

Guard: Yes, Prince.

Narrator: And no one saw the evil queen again.  And Snow White and the Prince lived happily ever after.

Narrator: It was Christmas time in London.  There was a man named Ebenezer Scrooge.  He was a hard worker man, but at the same time he was a miserable, greedy, cruel, and stingy person, who didn’t know what generosity meant.  A day before Christmas, Scrooge and his clerk, Bob Crachit, were working in the office.  Scrooge as always, was counting his money, while Bob was counting the minutes to go home to his family.

Bob: I am so cold in this office, but Mr. Scrooge doesn’t want to turn on the heater, he says that it’s a waste of money.

Narrator: Suddenly the front door opened, and Mr. Scrooge’s nephew came inside.

Scrooge’s Nephew: Merry Christmas, Uncle!

Scrooge: Christmas?  Bah!  Christmas is only a lie.

Scrooge’s Nephew: You don’t mean that, uncle.

Scrooge: Of course I mean that.  Christmas is just an excuse not to work. Besides, what reason do you have to be happy?  You’re so poor!

Scrooge’s Nephew: Come on, uncle!  And, what reason do you have to be sad?  You’re so rich!

Scrooge: Bah!

Scrooge’s Nephew: Don’t get angry, uncle.

Scrooge: Why wouldn’t I?  I live in a crazy world with fools.  Merry Christmas!  What is Christmas?  It’s just a time to pay bills with money you don’t have.  Where you see yourself a year older, and not a minute richer.  A time where you buy gifts you can’t afford.

Scrooge’s Nephew: But uncle!

Scrooge: Nephew!  Go celebrate Christmas your own way, and let me celebrate my way.

Scrooge’s Nephew: But uncle, I know that there are some things I didn’t do right, some things that I didn’t take advantage of, and one of those things is Christmas. Christmas is the only day where people seem to get along just fine.  It’s a time of forgiveness, love, and charity.  It’s a time where people open their hearts to one another.   Maybe, uncle, Christmas hasn’t given me a gold or silver coin, but it does good to me, that’s why I say: Blessed be Christmas!

Scrooge: Wow!  That was a wonderful speech!  I wonder why you don’t work for the government?

Scrooge’s Nephew: Don’t get angry uncle, and come to our house tomorrow.  My wife and I are preparing a delicious dinner; you will be our special guest.

Scrooge: Thanks, but no!

Scrooge’s Nephew: But… why, uncle?

Scrooge: Why did you get marry?

Scrooge’s Nephew: Because I fell in love.

Scrooge: Because you fell in love?   Have a nice day!

Scrooge’s Nephew: But, uncle, you never came to my house before, and you’re using my marriage as an excuse.  That is no fair.

Scrooge: Have a nice day!

Scrooge’s Nephew: I don’t need anything from you. I don’t ask you for something.  Why can’t we be friends?

Scrooge: Have a nice day!

Scrooge’s Nephew: I am sorry uncle, that you already took a decision, but I insist in celebrating Christmas, so, Merry Christmas, uncle!

Scrooge: Have a nice day, a Happy New Year, and good-bye.

Scrooge’s Nephew: As you wish, uncle.  And… Bob, have a Merry Christmas.

Bob: I wish the same to you, good-bye.

Narrator: Then Mr. Scrooge’s Nephew left the office.

Scrooge: How about that?  A clerk who earns the minimal salary, with a wife and kids, talking about Merry Christmas, you must be crazy!

Bob: Sir, I have finished copying all the letters and filed the paperwork. I also brought in more firewood and swept out the ashes. And, well, it’s closing time, Mr. Scrooge.

Scrooge: Fine, if your work is finished, you can go now.

Bob: Mr. Scrooge?  Tomorrow is Christmas, a day to spend with family.

Scrooge: You’d like the day off, I suppose?

Bob: Well, yes, Mr. Scrooge, after all, it’s Christmas.

Scrooge: Christmas? Bah!  Fine. Take tomorrow off, but be here early the next day.

Bob: Yes, sir. Merry Christmas, Mr. Scrooge.

Scrooge: Humbug.

Narrator: Scrooge opened the door and Crachit went home.  Then Scrooge returned to his desk to finish his accounts.  After a few hours, Scrooge closed his account books and proceeded to close the office.  When he got home he climbed the steps to his bedroom, sat in a chair beside the fire and started to eat his supper.  Suddenly he heard old bells ringing, and a strange and loud noise coming from the outside.

Scrooge: Who’s making that noise!  I must have fallen asleep!

Narrator: But the strange noise continued, until he saw a ghost coming through the bedroom door.

Scrooge: I think I am dreaming!

Marley’s Ghost: No, this is not a dream!

Scrooge: I know you!  You are Marley.  What do you want from me?

Marley’s Ghost: I want a lot from you!  Do you see these chains?  I am chained to my sins.

Scrooge: What sins?  You were a hard worker and a good businessman.

Marley´s Ghost: Businessman?  I took advantage of people!  While I was alive, I never learned the value of love and charity.   Now I have to wander the earth, unable to find peace.   Hear me, Scrooge!  I am here tonight to warn you!  You still have the opportunity to change, and if you don’t, the same fate awaits you.  Listen well, Scrooge, three spirits will visit you.   The first will arrive tomorrow when the clock strikes one.  Expect the second on the next night at the same hour.  The third - on the next night at the last stroke of the twelfth hour.

Narrator: Then the ghost left the room floating through the window.  Scrooge closed the window and went to bed shaking in fear, and fell asleep.  Next day when the clock struck one, Scrooge saw a strange creature beside his bed.

Scoorge: Who are you?

Ghost of Christmas Past: I am the Ghost of Christmas Past.  Get out of bed and come with me.

Narrator: The ghost took Scrooge through time to a small town which Scrooge started to remember.  He then remembered the houses, the church, the river, the bridge, and the people.

Ghost of Christmas Past: They can not see us or hear us.  They are just shadows from the past.

Scrooge: Look, the school is not that empty.  There’s a little boy, alone, forgotten by his friends.  I know him, poor boy.

Ghost of Christmas Past: Now, let’s see another Christmas.

Narrator: Then they arrived to a house.

Scrooge: This house seems familiar.  Oh, this is my house, where I grew up.

Ghost of Christmas Past: Yes, it is. And do you recognize that little boy sitting alone reading?

Scrooge: It’s me, as a child.  But..why am I… why is he alone?

Ghost of Christmas Past: You must know the answer.

Scrooge: Because my parents were working, that is why I was always alone. That is why my Christmas was so sad and lonely.

Ghost of Christmas Past: Come, take my hand, we don’t have enough time.

Scrooge: No, I have seen enough, go away!  Don’t torture me!

Ghost of Christmas Past: Don’t blame me, I told you these were shadows of the things that have been.

Scrooge: Take me back!

Ghost of Christmas Past: We have one more stop, our time is running out.

Narrator: And they appeared in a garden. Scrooge was now a young man who was sitting in a garden beside a lovely young woman.  The woman was crying.

Woman: I can’t marry you, Ebenezer. There’s something you love more than me.

Scrooge: Nonsense, I love no other woman.

Woman: That’s true.  You love money. You love it more than anything.

Scrooge: There’s nothing wrong in loving money.  We got engaged when we were poor, and when we were happy being poor.

Woman: I hope you are happy with the life you have chosen.

Narrator: And the woman ran away from the garden. Old Scrooge and the ghost followed her. When she stopped, Scrooge could see that she was a few years older. Children laughed and played at her feet. A little girl threw her arms around the woman and gave her a kiss.

Little Girl: Help me tie my bonnet, Mother.

Scrooge: Are they her children?

Ghost of Christmas Past: Yes, they are, but they could have been yours.

Narrator: The door opened, and a man entered carrying many gifts.

Children: Father!

Narrator: They ran to him and hugged him. The man laughed and gave them the gifts.

Scrooge: Stop!  Take me home!

Narrator: And Scrooge appeared in his own bedroom.

Scrooge: Thank goodness, it was a dream.

Narrator: Then the clock struck.

Ghost of Christmas Present: No, Ebenezer. It wasn’t a dream.

Scrooge: I suppose you are the Ghost of Christmas Present.

Ghost of Christmas Present: Yes, I am.  I am the Ghost of Christmas Present.  I have much to show you. Grab onto my robe.  Hurry! We cannot be late.

Narrator: Scrooge touched the hem of the spirit’s robe. The bedroom vanished, and Scrooge found himself on a busy, snowy street.  There were many people shopping for last minute gifts, the stores were still open, people were cooking their best meals, and the bells from the church were striking, everybody was attending church wearing their best clothes.  Everybody was happy

Scrooge: Everybody looks so happy.

Ghost of Christmas Present: Yes, they are.  It’s Christmas.  What did you expect?

Scrooge: Do you mean that they all are happy just because it’s December 25?

Ghost of Christmas Present: Yes. Today they can forget their problems, and just enjoy being with their families.  They just enjoy the food on their tables, and the many blessings they receive.

Narrator: Then the Ghost took Scrooge to Bob Crachit’s house.  And standing there at the door, the Ghost proceeded to bless the house.  Then Scrooge saw Bob Crachit playing with his children, three boys and two girls.

Scrooge: Is this where he lives?

Ghost of Christmas Present: Of course, with his salary, this is all he can afford.

Narrator: Then Mrs. Crachit entered into the dining room carrying a small turkey on a platter.

Scrooge: They look so poor!  Their clothes are so old.

Ghost of Christmas Present: Love is what you can feel here.

Narrator: Bob Crachit lifted the youngest boy from a chair in the corner and carried him to the table. The boy was pale and thin and carried a crutch.

Scrooge: What’s wrong with him? Why doesn’t he walk?

Ghost of Christmas Present: He’s very sick.  His name is Tiny Tim, and his parents don’t have money for a doctor, so maybe he will die.

Scrooge: Die?  But there must be something that can be done.  Please, tell me if he will die.

Ghost of Christmas Present: I see an empty chair in the corner, if the future is not changed, he will certainly die.

Scrooge: No! No!

Ghost of Christmas Present: What do you care, anyway?  That will diminish the world population.

Narrator: At that moment Scrooge realized that those were his own words, and felt sorry for himself.  Then he heard his name.

Bob Crachit: Mr. Scrooge!  Thanks to Mr. Scrooge we are having this dinner.

Mrs. Crachit: I wish I could see him to thank him personally.

Bob Crachit: Dear… children… It’s Christmas!

Mrs. Crachit: I know darling.  I hope he has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Bob Crachit: Let’s have a toast for our Christmas and for Mr. Scrooge.  Merry Christmas, and God bless us all.

Narrator: Meanwhile it was getting late. The Ghost took Scrooge through different places so he could see how people celebrated Christmas.  People who nevertheless were poor, as Scrooge used to say, they were happy and enjoyed being together with their families and friends.  Suddenly, without a warning they stood in a room.

Scrooge: I know that voice.  It’s my nephew.  He’s having a party.

Scrooge’s Nephew: Ha, ha, ha, ha.. he said that Christmas was only a lie.

Nephew’s Wife: He should be ashamed.

Scrooge’s Nephew: He’s very funny, but not a pleasant person.

Nephew’s Wife: You told me that he is very rich.

Scrooge’s Nephew: So what, darling?  His wealth is useless.  He doesn’t do anything with his money.

Guest: He didn’t come to eat with us tonight, because he’s busy counting his money. Ha, ha, ha, ha.

Scrooge’s Nephew: He preferred to be angry at us than to have fun with us.

Scrooge: They don’t like me.

Ghost of Christmas Present: No, unless the future changes.

Scrooge: How can I change the future?

Narrator: The room disappeared and they continued their journey.  They visited many countries, they travelled to faraway lands.  They visited the sick people who felt happy, poor people who felt rich, shelters where people felt hope.  It was a long night.  And everything happened in just one night.  Then, the Ghost of Christmas Present was gone.

Scrooge: Oh, I am in my own bed again.

Narrator: As he sat up, another ghost floated into the room. He was dressed in black, and a dark hood hid his face.

Scrooge: Who are you? First came the Ghost of Christmas Past, then the Ghost of Christmas Present.  You must be the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. Are you here to show me the future and how it can change?

Narrator: The Ghost said nothing; he just gestured toward the door. Scrooge followed him to the street in front of his office. Three men stood out front, talking and shaking their heads.

Scrooge: I know them.  I do business with them. We’re friends. These men like me, even if my own nephew does not. But.. what are they saying about me?

Man 1: Poor old Scrooge

Man 2: I know, I feel sorry for him

Man 1: They told me he’s very sick.

Man 2: Who’s taking care of him?

Man 1: No one.  You know that he always liked to be alone.

Man 2: He doesn’t have friends, either.

Narrator: The Ghost started waling and Scrooge followed him down the street.  Then they arrived to a tiny house.

Scrooge: We have been here before.  This is Crachits house.

Narrator: The Ghost tool Scrooge into the bedroom.  There was Mr. Bob Crachit sitting beside his son’s bed.  He was very sick.

Scrooge: Why is he crying?  The last time I was here they were so happy.

Narrator: Sleeping in bed was the little kid, but he was thinner and very pale.  Mrs. Crachit came into the bedroom.

Mrs. Crachit: Darling, what are we going to do?  Did you ask Mr. Scrooge for help?

Bob Crachit: Yes, but he can’t help us.  But his nephew will help us.

Mrs. Crachit: I hope it’s not too late.  What will we do without our son?

Scrooge: Why?  Tell me what’s wrong with the little boy?  Is he going to die? What can I do to help him?  Please, talk to me!

Narrator: The Ghost did not answer.  Then everything turned dark, and Scrooge appeared in a foggy and cold place.

Scrooge: Where are we?  This is a cemetery!  Why did you bring me here?

Narrator: The Ghost showed Scrooge a grave.

Scrooge: Before I get near that grave, tell me, is that the image of what it will be? or just the image of what can be?

Narrator: The Ghost did not answer.  Then Scrooge went to see the grave. Engraved on the headstone was the name:  Ebenezer Scrooge.  Then Scrooge fell to his knees.

Scrooge: No!  No!  Ghost, listen to me. I have changed! Why do you show me all this if I have lost all hope.  Please, tell me that I can change everything that you have shown me.  I will honor Christmas in my heart.  I will live in the past, in the present, and in the future.  I will not forget the lessons that all of the ghosts have taught me.  Oh, please tell me that I can erase my name from that grave.

Narrator: In his anguish he took the Ghost`s hand, but the ghost rejected him, and Scrooge woke up in his bed.

Scrooge: Oh, thank you!  I’ve been given another chance. I don’t know what day is today, or how long I have been with the Ghosts.  I feel like a child, but I don’t care.  I want to be a child again!

Narrator:  Then he heard the church bells striking.  Then he saw a boy in the street and shouted.

Scrooge: Oh, wonderful!  Hey, You! You there!  What day is today?

Boy 1: It’s Christmas, sir. Christmas morning.

Scrooge: Good! I haven’t missed it.

Narrator: Then he pulled out a bag of money. He tossed a handful of coins to the boy

Scrooge: There’s a big, juicy turkey in the butcher shop window at the end of the street. Buy it and deliver it to Bob Crachit’s house.

Boy 1: But, sir, this is a lot of money.

Scrooge: Keep the change.  Hurry up. The Crachits are hungry.

Boy 1: Yes, sir!

Scrooge: Oh! Little boy!

Boy 1: Yes, sir?

Scrooge: Have a merry Christmas!

Boy 1: Thank you, sir.  And merry Christmas to you, too.

Narrator: Scrooge dressed in his finest clothes and headed toward his nephew’s house.   He was feeling really happy and excited.  He waved everybody in the street and treated everybody nicely.

Scrooge: Here, kid take this money and buy some Christmas candy.

Boy 2: Thank you, sir.

Scrooge: Merry Christmas.

Narrator: When Scrooge reached his nephew’s house, his nephew was surprised to see him.

Scrooge’s Nephew: Uncle I am happy to see you!  I am really glad that you change your mind about Christmas dinner.  Come and celebrate the holiday with us.

Scrooge: Yes, thank you for accepting me.

Narrator: His nephew’s wife set an extra place at the table.

Nephew’s Wife: We’re happy to have you here.  You’ve arrived just in time for the turkey.

Narrator: After dinner Scrooge said a few words.

Scrooge: Thank you.  I’ve never eaten a more delicious meal. But, I have to go now; I have some other things to do, and people to visit.

Narrator: And Scrooge headed to Bob Crachit’s house. Mrs. Crachit opened the door, she couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw Mr. Scrooge standing in front of her.

Mrs. Crachit: Oh, Mr. Scrooge!  What a surprise! … I want to thank you for the wonderful turkey.

Scrooge: It was a pleasure for me.

Bob Crachit: Mr. Scoorge, please come in.

Scrooge: Crachit, you’ve worked long hours without complaining for many years. I am raising your salary, and I will also help you support your family.

Bob Crachit: Oh thank you, Mr. Scrooge.  You are so generous.

Scrooge: Merry Christmas!

Narrator: Scrooge did more than what he said he would do.  He took care of Tiny Tim, as a second father would do.  Some people laughed to see how he changed, but he didn’t care.  Scrooge never saw the Ghosts again, but he had many friends and was always close to his family.  Each time he had a meal with his friends and family, he would say.

Scrooge: God bless us.  God bless us every one.
