English-speaking countries.

Good afternoon, boys and girls!

Welcome to our quest “English-speaking countries”! We are the leaders of this contest. This is Milena. And this is Vlad. We hope that it will be a real brainstorm. Let the strongest win!

Let’s meet our four teams. These are the best students of the 7th form.

And meet our noble and fair jury too. These are the students of the 10th form: Kristina, Alexandra and Violetta.

Well, we are ready to start. Our first task is “Presentation”. The teams should present themselves – name, motto, etc.  

7th A form you are the first. (представляют себя) Now – 7thB, 7th V, 7th G.

Our second task is geographical. Look at the maps of English-speaking countries and decide what country it is. Are you ready? Look at the screen. While our jury checks your works, we can check ourselves. Now our jury tells the results of the geographical contest. (Team….4 points…)

Our third task is biological. You have got the list of some animals. Your task is to find Russian equivalents for these English words. Let’s have a look at these unusual animals: 1. Musk-rat – выхухоль, 2.chipmunk – бурундук, 3.wolverine – росомаха, 4.bullfinch – снегирь, 5.monitor – варан, 6.badger – барсук.

Now we have got a musical pause. Let’s listen to the anthems of English-speaking countries. Guess and write down the country.

The next competition we call: 5 envelopes. You have got five envelopes with the names of five English-speaking countries. You task is to divide all this geographical names, famous places of interest and other information into these envelopes. You have got 5 minutes.

Let’s remember some famous people. Look at the screen and get some information about famous English-speaking people. Try to guess the name of the person and write the number of a slide on the paper with this name.

1. He is one of the most famous sportsmen of the 20th century. An English football player, halfback. (David Beckham)
2. This person is a very famous film director. He is from New Zealand. His films “King Kong”, “Lord of Rings”, “The Hobbit’ Trilogy” have a lot of Oscar rewords. (Peter Jackson)
3. She is an Australian and American actress and singer. The winner of the award Oskar in 2003. The triple owner of the award Golden Globe. (Nicole Mary Kidman)
4. The pioneer of IT-technologies. One of the founders of Apple Company and Pixar Studio. One of the richest persons in the world. (Steven Paul Jobs)
5.  An English actor of cinema and theatre. Became famous after the main role in the film “Harry Potter”. (Daniel Redcliff)
6. One of the founders of modern theoretical physics. In 1921 got Nobel prize in physics. Social activist and humanist. (Albert Einstein)
7. An English writer, mathematician, philosopher and photographer. His best known work is “Alice in Wonderland”. (Lewis Carrol)
8. This person is a famous naturalist and geologist. His theory explains how humans evolved from more primitive animal forms in a process known as evolution and natural selection. (Charles Darwin)
9. This woman is an English detective writer. She published more than 60 detective novels. Everybody knows her characters Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. (Agatha Christie)
