Criterion A: Comprehending spoken and visual text

Objective A i,iii

A i: identify basic facts, messages, main ideas and supporting details in everyday situations

A iii: engage with the spoken and visual text by identifying ideas, opinions and attitudes and by making a personal response to the text.

The student fails to put the events of the story in the right order. Is not capable of answering the questions, doesn’t use adjectives which describe emotions.

3-4

The student puts some events of the story in the right order. Attempts at answering the questions, using a very limited range of vocabulary and hardly expresses his own feelings and opinion.

5-6

The student puts the events of the story in the right order. Successfully answers the questions, expresses his feelings and opinion using some basic  adjectives which describe emotions.

7-8

The student puts the events of the story in the right order. Successfully answers the questions, expresses his feelings and opinion using a wide range of adjectives which describe emotions

The student doesn’t respond to the visual text and shows limited understanding of the content of the visual text as a whole. The student describes 2 situations (shown in the pictures), fails to verbalize his feelings when asked. Responds to a limited number of questions.

3-4

The student gives some response to the visual text and shows some understanding of the content of the visual text as a whole. The student describes 3,4 situations (shown in the pictures) The student is capable of verbalizing his feelings to some extent. Responds to a large number of questions.

5-6

The student gives response to the visual text and shows considerable understanding of the content of the visual text as a whole. The student describes 5, 6 situations (shown in the pictures). The student is capable of verbalizing his feelings in each situation. Responds to most questions.

7-8

The student gives response to the visual text and shows considerable understanding of the content of the visual text as a whole. The student describes all situations (shown in the pictures). The student is capable of verbalizing his feelings in each situation and offers solutions how to cope with them. Responds to all questions.

Criterion D: Using language in spoken and written form

The student cannot write a cohesive story based on the visual information, fails to make use of the plan. Uses past tenses incorrectly, doesn’t use linking devices.

3-4

The student can write a more or less cohesive story based on the visual information, makes some use of the plan. Uses past tenses with some errors, which sometimes impedes communication uses some linking devices. Attempts at using direct speech to attract the attention of the reader.

5-6

The student writes a cohesive story based on the visual information, follows the plan fully. Uses past tenses properly, uses linking devices. Uses direct speech to attract the attention of the reader.

7-8

The student writes a cohesive story based on the visual information, follows the plan fully. Uses past tenses properly, uses linking devices. Uses direct speech to attract the attention of the reader and above that, adds extra elements to the story to increase tension.

Study the following pictures and write a composition in about 150 words. You may use the writing plan at the back to help you. You need to begin your story with the following sentence:

‘Something strange and unbelievable happened on me last weekend.’
