• Кто слышал о таком методе, как TPR, total physical response, Метод полного физического реагирования.

TPR (Total Physical Response), или метод полного физического реагирования был разработан американским психологом Джеймсом  Ашером в 1965 году. Джеймс Ашер разработал TPR метод в результате своего опыта, наблюдая, как маленькие дети изучают свой первый язык. Он заметил, что взаимодействие между родителями и детьми часто представляет собой речь от родителя, а затем физический ответ от ребенка. В основе лежит теория о двух полушариях мозга, где левая часть отвечает за логику и сознание, а правое — за интуицию и подсознание, а также за движение. Изучая язык по традиционным методикам, мы закладываем полученные знания в левое полушарие (механическое запоминание, повторение). Если же мы используем метод TPR, то есть сочетаем движение и обучение, мы задействуем сразу два полушария, а новые знания закладываются в правое полушарие и, как результат, остаются с нами навсегда.

Today I want to present you some ways I use while teaching language through physical activity.

Look! This is a curious cow. She always asks questions. Today she wants to know what your names are. So she asks “What’s your name?”. This is a talkative dog. He likes answering questions. If you have this dog, you will say your name (introduce yourself). Let’s try. While the music is playing, pass the toys to tour colleagues. Stop! Ask and answer.

Of course, your students can ask and answer different questions. It depends on their level. You can also do this activity in a circle.

When your students learn the ABC, they will enjoy the Alphabet Back Game. I need 8 volunteers. Now I split you into two groups. You should stand face to the blackboard. I show a letter to one of your group mates. You are not allowed to speak. When I say “Go”, you trace the letter on the back of your partner using only your finger. The last person in your group writes the letter down on the blackboard. Let’s go!

The next topic is “Parts of the body”. Stand up please and write your name using your finger/nose/elbow/foot. Excellent!

And one of my favourite games is called “Emotions”. I need 6 volunteers. Make a circle. Choose emotion, show it and say the word. In a circle everybody should repeat it. Let’s begin!

Young learners will certainly enjoy the game “Fruit salad”. I need 9 volunteers.

Form a circle of chairs that is one chair fewer than a total number of players.

Nominate a player to be 'in', that player stands in the centre of the circle.

Divide all players into three groups of fruit by going around the circle and naming them apple, orange, banana.

The player who is 'in', calls the name of a fruit.

If he calls out apples, everyone who is that fruit must get up quickly and change places.

Players who are not apples remain seated.

The person in the middle can also call 'fruit salad' and everyone has to change spots.

The person who is 'in' tries to sit in an empty spot whenever players swap positions.

The player not sitting in a chair is then 'in'.

Dear colleagues, I shared some ideas with you about using Total Physical Response while teaching English. In conclusion, one more game - Snowballs. On your desks you have a sheet of paper. Male up a snowball.If you are going to use some of these techniques, throw a snowball into this bin. If you find them useless and not effective, throw a snowball into this one.

Make your classroom active! Let your students play, learn and grow together, and they will enjoy the learning process.

TPR is total physical response. It’s a language teaching method developed by James Asher in 1965.

It’s accepted that within our brain there are two hemispheres. One is the left hemisphere, the other is the right hemisphere. One of the functions of the left hemisphere is the language learning. One of the major functions of the right hemisphere is controlling our body’s movement. What Asher said was that when we are young, we learn a language using the whole brain. So his idea was to try to introduce movement into the process of learning language so that we use the whole brain. So use of motion and learning would be a typical way of using a total physical response. By bringing these two things together, it was shown that it would actually enhance the learning process.

It’s combination of speech and action. It attempts to teach language through physical activity. The basic tenets is to create fun atmosphere of learning by involving physical activities which could help students memorize and understand the material better.
