THE WORLD OF LITERATURE

WELCOME TO OUR QUIZ THE WORLD OF LITERATURE!

Today you are going to have a competition on this topic. You will check your knowledge in different genres of books, famous authors and their works. You will also have some fun reciting tongue twisters and do a lot of other interesting things. We asked you to form 2 teams. The teams will play quiz game taking part in 8 rounds. We hope, you will enjoy this lesson!

Round 1          WARMING-UP

In the first round you are to answer the questions which are written on your card. Your task is to give a full and grammatically correct answer. You have only three seconds to do it. Every player will get one point for her answer. Every team can get 9 points for this round. Good Luck!!!

  2. What kind of reading do you prefer?
  3. What kind of books, newspapers and magazines do you read?
  4. When and where do you usually read?
  5. Which languages do you usually read?
  6. How important do you think reading in a foreign language?
  7. How old were you when you began reading?

  9. What kind of libraries do you use?
  10. What do you think about books? Are they important?
  11. What can books teach us?
  12. What can we learn from books?
  13. Do you have a big library at home?
  14. How much time do you read every day?
  15. What English and American writers do you know?

Round 2 PRESENTATION OF THE TEAMS

So, you are to tell the world about yourselves! You were to name your team, to make an emblem of it and show something interesting presenting your team. Let’s fling a coin to learn who will be the first! … You are welcome!

Round 3 TONGUE – TWISTER BATTLE

It’s high time to check your reading skills! Each team will be given a tongue – twister. You are to choose a person who will read it to the public. You have 3 minutes to get ready. Other members of the team are to help their competitor. Only one person can present the tongue twister while reading it she is not to make mistakes, read it with correct intonation and rhythm.  So, good luck!

Betty Botter bought some butter, 
But, she said, the butter’s bitter. 
If I put it in my batter, 
It will make my batter bitter.

So she bought some better butter -
Better than her bitter butter, 
And she put it in her batter 
And the batter was not bitter.

So ’twas good that Betty Botter 

Bought some better butter. 
‘Cause a bit of better butter
Made her bitter batter better.

Round 4 WHO WROTE THIS…

In this round you are to guess the author of the given book. You should do it by raising your hand and waiting for the host to let you answer. Please look at the board.

Round 5 GUESS THE CELEBRITY

In this round each team will watch three short videos. You will do it in turns. We asked the students of our boarding school to help us. You are not only to guess the celebrities according to the life facts which will be mentioned in the videos but also to add something to the given life facts. Only this way you will get a point. Good luck!

(6 points /1 – name + 1- fact/* 3 videos)

Round 6    WHO IS THIS?

In this round each team will be given a photo of a famous writer. You are to make a short biography using the given entries. You will get 2 points for every entry: 1 for the correct answer, the other – for your grammar.  You have 5 minutes to complete the task. Write his or her biography on a sheet of paper.

(8 points / 1 – correct answer + 1 –speaking skills/*4)

                

Round 7   THE BATTLE OF THE LEADERS

In this round the chosen leader of your team will complete a word-square in two minutes. You know the names of English and American writers. In this word square you can find 6 names of the book writers. What are they? If your leader succeeds; your team will get 6 points.

Round 8 THE FINAL ATTEMPT

In the final round you are all to fill the cards in with the name, the genre and the name of the book. You will be given 5 minutes. You will get 1 point for every correct answer.  Good luck!
