HOW DO ELDERLY PEOPLE LIVE?

Цели:

познавательный (культурологический) аспект — познакомить учащихся с условиями жизни престарелых людей в Великобритании и в России;

развивающий аспект — формирование способности к осмысленности восприятия через контекст другой культуры, формирование способности  к анализу и синтезу, к сравнению и сопоставлению фактов, к формулированию выводов из прочитанного;

воспитательный аспект —уважительным отношением к пожилым людям, собственным бабушкам и дедушкам;

учебный аспект — формирование грамматических навыков говорения;

сопутствующие задачи — умение интерпретировать информацию, предвосхищать содержание, умение читать с детальным пониманием, умение анализировать текст совместно с другими людьми,  вести исследовательскую работу в группе.

Речевой материал:

рецептивный: лексический —a burden, suffer sth, nursing, spouse, a pass, privilege, home for elderly people;

Regular exercise in old age has as powerful an effect on life expectancy as giving up smoking, researchers say.

The analysis of 5,700 elderly men in Norway showed those doing three hours of exercise a week lived around five years longer than the sedentary.

The authors, writing in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, called for campaigns to encourage fitness in older people.

1)Работа в группах.

Every group finds some facts and reasons of the pensioner’s behavior.

(Каждая группа получает задание: найти в тексе факты и причины поведения данного пенсионера. Каждой группе даётся заранее изученный текст. В течение 5 минут группа работает с текстом, заполняет одну из «рыбьих костей фишбоуна». Выступление групп, заполнение схемы «Фишбоун».)

On the example of Mr. Baxter’s life circumstances, one can draw some conclusions how the Government, public organizations and individuals  care for elderly people in Britain.

1. Do you agree with the following conclusions?

-Social services try to do their best  to cheer the old people up, but they don’t have much success in doing it.

-When old people are put into homes for elderly people their pets get a place in the RSPCA hostels.

-At the homes for elderly people patients are provided with lots of entertainments.

-The Samaritans Group members go out into the community to help people, including patients of the homes for elderly people.
