A).Being healthy is something that we all strive for. It is not just about looking good, but also about feeling good both physically and mentally.  No one will deny that it can be difficult to know where to start or what habits to adopt. The good news is that there are countless ways to improve your health. Of course, some of them may require a bit of effort and discipline, but the benefits are well worth it.  You just need not to be lazy and set priorities.

 B) One of the most effective ways to improve health is to get into a habit of taking exercise. This can be as simple as going for a walk or a jogging every morning.  It is important to find an exercise routine that you will enjoy doing and do it on a regular basis. Physical activity not only strengthens the body, but also releases endorphins, and as a result, your mood improves and the level of stress reduces.

C) Another key component of a healthy lifestyle is having a balanced diet. Just be sensible and do not forget that skipping breakfast or indulging in fatty foods can ruin health and lead to obesity. Instead, it is essential to have a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins on your diet.  Drinking more water and avoiding sugary drinks can also have a positive impact on health.  Consuming a variety of foods that provide all necessary nutrients in the right amounts is an excellent way to be in shape.  Carbohydrates are an important source of energy found in bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, and cereals. Choose whole grain options as they contain more fiber which helps to feel energetic.

 D) In addition to physical health, mental health is equally important. Avoiding stressful situations and thinking positively can substantially influence your health.  Giving yourself a break and taking time to relax can also be helpful. Keeping good company and surrounding yourself with positive people contribute to a healthy mindset. In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of the importance of mental health. Many organizations and governments around the world are taking steps to improve access to mental health services and reduce stigma surrounding mental illness. However, there is still much work to be done.

E) Last but not least, having annual medical check-ups to detect diseases is a must for every person.  Being proactive about health can prevent serious problems.  Annual check-ups might be sometimes something like a hassle, they are an essential part of maintaining good health and preventing serious illnesses. So, if you haven't had an annual check-up recently, it's a good idea to schedule one with your doctor today! Do not miss the opportunity!

F) Undoubtedly, there are many ways to stay healthy, still some methods can do harm. Extreme diets or excessive exercise can have a negative effect on the body. You need to find a balance and avoid any methods that may be harmful. One of the examples of an extreme diet is the "ketogenic diet", which involves consuming very low amounts of carbohydrates and high amounts of fat. This can lead to rapid weight loss, but it can also put a strain on the liver and kidney. In addition, it can cause some unpleasant side effects.

G) Another aspect of a healthy lifestyle is stress management. In today's fast-paced world, stress can have a negative impact on your well-being.  Naturally, people need to relax. Russians, for example, have a long history of using saunas and steam rooms to unwind, and this tradition continues today. Yoga and meditation, which are considered to be oriental practices, are also gaining popularity as effective ways to reduce stress and improve health. Stress is a major contributor to poor health, so it is important to avoid stressful situations whenever possible. If you find yourself in a stressful situation, give yourself time to recharge the batteries.

Test on the Topic “ Healthy  Eating»

Variant 2.

Task 1. Match the texts  A – G with the headings 1 – 8. There is one extra  heading you do not need to use.

1. Don’t skip breakfast
2. The key to a healthy diet
3. Eat more fish
4. No more than 6g of salt a day for adults
5. Cut down on saturated fat and sugar
6. Eat lots of fruit and veg
7. Base your meals on starchy carbohydrates
8. The hazards of an unhealthy diet

A. Eat the right amount of calories for how active you are, so that you balance the energy you consume with the energy you use. If you eat or drink too much, you’ll put on weight. If you eat and drink too little, you’ll lose weight. Eat a wide range of foods to ensure that you’re getting a balanced diet and that your body is receiving all the nutrients it needs. It is recommended that men have around 2,500 calories a day. Women should have around 2,000 calories a day. Most adults are eating more calories than they need, and should eat fewer calories.

B. They include potatoes, bread, rice, pasta and cereals. Choose wholegrain varieties (or eat potatoes with their skins on) when you can: they contain more fibre, and can help you feel full for longer. Most of us should eat more starchy foods: try to include at least one starchy food with each main meal. Some people think starchy foods are fattening, but gram for gram the carbohydrate they contain provides fewer than half the calories of fat. Keep an eye on the fats you add when you’re cooking or serving these types of foods because that’s what increases the calorie content, for example oil on chips, butter on bread and creamy sauces on pasta.

C. It’s recommended that we eat at least five portions of a variety of fruit and veg every day. It’s easier than it sounds. Why not chop a banana over your breakfast cereal, or swap your usual mid-morning snack for a piece of fresh fruit? Unsweetened 100% fruit juice, vegetable juice and smoothies can only ever count as a maximum of one portion of your 5 a day. For example, if you have two glasses of fruit juice and a smoothie in one day, that still only counts as one portion.

D. Fish is a good source of protein and contains many vitamins and minerals. Aim to eat at least two portions of fish a week, including at least one portion of oily fish. Oily fish contains omega-3 fats, which may help to prevent heart disease. If you regularly eat a lot of fish, try to choose as wide a variety as possible. You can choose from fresh, frozen and canned: but remember that canned and smoked fish can be high in salt.

E. We all need some fat in our diet, but it’s important to pay attention to the amount and type of fat we’re eating. There are two main types of fat: saturated and unsaturated. Too much saturated fat can increase the amount of cholesterol in the blood, which increases your risk of developing heart disease. The average man should have no more than 30g saturated fat a day. The average woman should have no more than 20g saturated fat a day, and children should have less than adults.

F. Eating too much salt can raise your blood pressure. People with high blood pressure are more likely to develop heart disease or have a stroke. Even if you don’t add salt to your food, you may still be eating too much. About three-quarters of the salt we eat is already in the food we buy, such as breakfast cereals, soups, breads and sauces. Use food labels to help you cut down. More than 1.5g of salt per 100g means the food is high in salt. Adults and children over 11 should eat no more than 6g of salt (about a teaspoonful) a day. Younger children should have even less.

G. Eating a healthy, balanced diet plays an essential role in maintaining a healthy weight, which is an important part of overall good health. Being overweight or obese can lead to health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, certain cancers, heart disease and stroke. Being underweight could also affect your health.
