Unit 8 «Once Upon a Time»

Theme:  “We create our own tale”.

Objectives : by the end of the lesson Pp should be able to create and tell their own fairy tales.

Greeting

We have an unusual  lesson today. We’ll be writers and try to create our own fairy tales.

(Write the title “The Frog Princess” on the board.)

“Do you know this tale?”

“Have you read it?”

“What characters were there?”

Name the characters.

Today you are going to read the new version of the tale.

Try to predict what it might be about, what characters there are in the tale.

(Hand out slips of paper with jumbled text)

Now, read the new version of the tale about the Frog Princess and put the text in order (Appendix 1)

Let’s do the quiz.

(Appendix 2)

(Write “What happened?”

on the board)

Well, name the main events of the tale.

(Write the events in the form of spidergram)

Pps’own predictions

Read the text and put the paragraphs in order.

Pp read the questions, circle the right answers and compare them in pairs.

Pp enumerate:

  2. Turned into
  3. Ran home
  4. Game to the ball
  5. Disappeared
  6. Burnt the frog skin
  7. Found  etc.

  6. How do we usually finish the tale?

  1. Creating fairy tales

So, my dear friend, you’ve learnt a lot about fairy tales and I believe it’s high time to do our best and make up your own fairy tales.

Let’s work in groups.

(Divide Pp into groups of 3-4.

Use these maps, complete them and ted us your fairy tale (Appendix 4)

Pp complete their mind maps by writing down their ideas.

Communicative objectives : by the end of the lesson Pp will be able to describe personality, to approach a person they don’t know and start a conversation.

I think you could do it more successfully if you keep in mind the poem. “Personal Questions” (display the poem on the board)

How much do you weigh? How much rent do you pay? How much do you make? Why aren't you married? Why don't you have chil dren? Where were you last night? Why weren't you home? Did you stay out late? Did you come home alone? Did you have a good time? Did you see a good play? Did you go on a concert ?

  1. Now, using our spidergram, let’s describe these people and fairy tale characters (put the pictures on the board)

I see you are good at describing characters. But now try and describe people around you and yourselves.

Be fair and tactful.

 Now  let’s play a game (Hand out the cards-Appendix1)  On these cards you have a description of your character according to your Zodiac. Read your card then talk to other Pp and try to find an ideal partner for yourself.

Pp describe each other in turns and guess who is who.

Pp read their cards, then go around the class, ask questions and try to find the partner.

Imagine that 25 years had passed. And you are going to the school reunion (Pin name tags with “their names”) You are very curious about what had happened to your classmates.

Let’s divide into groups of 4 and do a Questionnaire (The object is to complete as many statements as possible)

Pp have to mingle and find out as much as possible about their “former” classmates.

Pp fill in Questionnaire (Appendix3)
