План –конспект игрового занятия по английскому языку

Britain and the USA. Their sights, culture and famous people.

Может быть использован в качестве внеклассного мероприятия. Задания меняются в зависимости от уровня учащихся.

Aims of the lesson: 1. Students will brush up knowledge on 2 English-speaking countries.

                                2. They will train to use some grammar material (Present simple/progressive)

                                3. They will be trained to use their guessing skills

Equipment: cards with questions and tasks, toys.

Patterns of interaction: group-work

Procedure:

  1. Division into groups. Every person gets a number (1/2) so students are divided into 2 groups according the number they have.
  2. Greeting. Choosing the name for the teams. Stating the aims of the game.
  3. Quiz. There are several sections of questions ( this quiz can be organized like a famous game «Своя Игрa»). Or teams can take turns answering the questions.

General information

  1. What is the official name of Britain?
  2. What parts does the Britain consist of?
  3. What is the capital of Britain?
  4. What river is London situated on?
  5. What is the capital pf Scotland?
  6. What is the symbol of England?
  7. What is the national costume of Scotland? (kilt)
  8. What is the traditional instrument of the Scots? (bagpipe)
  9. When do people in Britain celebrate Christmas?
  10. What is the traditional Christmas meal in Britain? (roast turkey and pudding)

Places of interest

  1. What is the London home of the Queen?
  2. What was the Tower of London in the past? (a fortress, a zoo, a prison)
  3. What is Big Ben?
  4. What is Scotland Yard?
  5. What is Harrods? (the biggest department store in Europe)
  6. What birds live in the Tower? (ravens)
  7. When was Stonehenge built? ( more than 4000 years ago)
  8. What famous university-cities do you know?
  9. What is there in the centre of Trafalgar square? (Nelson`s column)
  10. What is there in the centre of Piccadilly circus? (the statue of Eros)

 Famous people

  1. Who wrote the book “Gulliver`s Travels”? (Jonathan Swift)
  2. Who is the creator of Sherlock Homes and Dr. Watson?
  3. Where were The Beatles from?
  4. Who discovered penicillin? (Alexander Fleming)
  5. He is the richest person in the world.
  6. Now he is the governor of California.
  7. The first president of the USA.
  8. What are the names of  2 sons of prince Charles and princess Diane? (Harry and William)
  9. The greatest English poet
  10. An actor who played in black-and-white silent comedy films.

4. Grammar game “Noughts and Crosses”

The teacher draws  a nought and crosses grid on the blackboard and writes number from 1 to 9 in each square.

 One team is  X and the other is O. In turn each team decides which square they want to nominate and they have to make up a grammatically correct sentence (affirmative, negative or interrogative)

If they are correct, the teacher puts a symbol of their team. The first team which gets  a line of three symbols in any direction across the grid is the winner.

  1. Let`s draw!

Each team should touch a toy (the toy is hidden in the bag, the players can`t see it) and draw it. The team with the best picture wins. Option: we can award an extra point for the story or description of the toy.

  1. Antonyms.

A  well-known game. We take a phrase or a title of a famous song and make an antonymous construction from it. Students should guess the song.

* Tomorrow – Yesterday

* Young Mickey Mouse hadn`t a hotel – Old McDonald had a farm

* Hate you roughly – Love me tender

* Clever boy – Stupid girl

* They are the losers – We are the champions

* Ugly man sitting in the house – Pretty woman walking down the street

* Always, always forbid me come- Never, never let you go

* He is standing in the evening…- I am sitting in the morning

  1. Miming game.

Each team gets a card with task, they should show what is written without saying a word. The rest of the team should guess what they are showing.

Variants of task-cards:

  1. Pinocchio
  2. Donald Duck
  3. Sponge Bob and Patrick.
  4. Tom and Jerry
  5. Shrek and Fiona
  6. The Beauty and the Beast (красавица и чудовище)

8.Results and awards. (We can award the whole team and also choose the most intelligent player, the funniest player etc.)
