Предварительный просмотр:

(1) We use ‘the Present Indefinite Tense’ for the future:                                                              FUTURE

  • for timetables (of planes, trains, etc.) and programmes. The future action is regarded as something fixed

        (future reference).

  • The last train to London leaves at 9:15pm.
  • The evening performance starts at 9 o’clock.
  • It is my birthday next month.
  • Tomorrow is Thursday.
  • for a future action in adverbial clauses of time and condition
  • If he comes tomorrow, I will tell him everything.
  • I will call you when I get home.

(2  ) We use ‘to be going to’ for the future:

  • to talk about plans, intentions or ambitions for the future.

e.g. I’m going to travel around the world one day.

I am going to stay at home tonight.

They are going to see us tomorrow.

  • to talk about actions we have already decided to do in the near future.

e.g. We are going to visit our grandparents next weekend.

  • to talk about predictions based on what we can see or what we know, especially when there is evidence(признак, доказательство) that something will happen in the near future. (We are making a prediction: something in the present tells you what is going to happen in the future.)

e.g. Look at the toast. It is going to burn. (Cf. The toast is burning.)

The grass is going to grow very tall in the summer.

Look at the sky. It is going to be a nice day tomorrow.

Look at that car! It’s going to crash.

  • to talk about a fact in the future

Danny is going to be seven on his next birthday.

(3) We use ‘The Present Continuous tense’  for the future:

  • a Future planned action: we talk about actions we have decided and arranged to do in the near future, especially when the time and place have been decided, often with the verbs: go, come, see, meet, stay, have, leave, fly
  • I’m meeting Paul at 9 p.m. tomorrow.
  • Im flying to Moscow on Thursday.
  • They are having a party next week.
  • Mike is coming home on Sunday.
  • I’m seeing Jill next Sunday.
  • They are getting married before Christmas.

Cf. :        I am flying to Brussels on Tuesday.  = I have bought the air ticket.

I am going to fly to Brussels on Tuesday.  = I have decided to fly there. I am talking about my intention/decision.

We are meeting next Saturday. = We have arranged when and where to meet.

We are going to meet next Saturday. = We have decided to meet next Saturday.

(4) We use ‘the Future Indefinite Tense’:

  • for predictions about the future: prediction is based more on our opinion than a fact.

1 These flowers won’t grow under the tree. It’s dark.

2. That plate is very hot. If you touch it, you’ll burn yourself.

3. Where will you be this time next year? – I’ll be in Japan.

4. When will you know the exam results?

  • for on-the-spot decisions. We usually contract ‘will’ to ’ll with this use.

1. It’s Jane’s birthday today. -  Is it? I’ll buy her some flowers.

2. What would you like to drink? – I’ll have an orange juice, please.
