Тип урока:  комплексный урок-игра

Место урока: в конце темы “The Geography and Political Outlook of the UK”

Цели урока:

1. Практическая

    - обобщение пройденного материала страноведческого характера посредством заданий разного типа.

     Задачи урока:

             -активизировать изученную лексику и фактический материал по темам  «Great Britain» и «The USA»

             - развивать навыки аудирования с целью извлечения конкретной информации по теме

             - развивать навыки устной речи (выступление)

             - развивать навыки аргументированного выражения собственного мнения

             - развивать навыки ведения диалога-обмена информацией;

2. Развивающая

    - развитие познавательных способностей учащихся

    - развитие памяти, догадки, словесно-логического мышления

    - развитие умения работать в группах.

3. Воспитательная  

    - формирование и развитие навыков культуры общения

    - формирование уважительного отношения к истории, традициям страны.

ПЛАН УРОКА:

  1. Beginning: introduction to the lesson, objective-setting.
  2. Warming up: revising the general information on the UK and the USA(Leaders’ task).
  3. Follow-up:
  1. Revising some proper names, dates and facts;
  2. Translating some English proverbs and sayings;
  3. Watching a short film about Oxford and doing some tasks after it;
  4. Describing pictures on the topic;
  5. Translating an English rhyme.

     IV.       Results.

ХОД УРОКА:

  1. T: Dear friends! I am glad to see you today at our contest “AROUND ENGLISH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES”. Today we will revise everything we know about history, culture, literature, geography, traditions, holidays of the United Kingdom and the United States of America. And of course we will learn something new!

We have three teams. Each team has its leader. Please, leaders, tell us your names and the names of your team.

   (LEADERS PRESENT THEIR TEAMS)

T: We have 3 members of the jury today. They are …

    (INTRODUCING THE JURY)

  1. T: The first task is for the leaders of the teams. (TASK FOR THE TEAMS’ LEADERS) Please, come up to the table, choose one card in turn, read the question aloud and answer it. You get one point for each correct answer.

T: So, let’s sum up the points…

  1. 1) T:You know a lot of different geographical names, dates, names of famous people in the UK and the USA. Our next task is to complete the sentences with Proper Names. Each correct answer will give you one point. You have 2 minutes to complete the task.

                    (TASK “PROPER NAMES”)

T: Now our jury will check your answers. And it is a good time to listen to a song in English. Now we are going to listen to a famous Irish folk song “Cockles and Mussels”. Complete the text of the song and let’s sing it together.

T: Jury, please, announce the results of the task “Proper Names”

2) T: You know that every nation has its proverbs and sayings. For example, in England they say “My home is my castle”. What is the Russian equivalent of the saying? Your next task is to match 12 English proverbs and sayings and their Russian equivalents. You can get 1 point for each correct matching. You have 2 minutes to do the task.

                              (TASK “PROVERBS AND SAYINGS”)

T: Now, jury, come up to the tables, please, and check the answers. We will read the proverbs on the screen together.

So, jury, announce the score, please.

3) T: You know a lot about English and American cities. Today you will learn some more information about famous English city Oxford. What do you know about it? (…) Now you will watch a short film about Oxford and do a task after it. Each correct answer will bring you 1 point.

4) T: Now look at our screen. You will see a picture of a famous place or a famous person. Your task is to say 5 sentences on the picture. For each correct sentence you get 1 point. So, now the picture for the team “…” . Jury count the points.

T: Now the jury will announce the results.

5)T: The next task is to translate a short English rhyme. Translate it in the most interesting and creative way. You can get 5 points maximum for the task. You have 3 minutes to complete the task.

T: Now let’s listen to the Russian versions of the rhyme.

The jury will tell us the points for the rhymes and then they will announce the final results for the quiz.

  1. T: So, our congratulations to the winners! We hope our quiz was interesting! What new things about the UK and the USA have you learnt?
