I Организационный этап

Good morning! How are you? How were your small holidays! What did you do?

2. Речевая зарядка

The topic of our talk today is the topic of our lesson! Who can tell me what is the name of our lesson! You are absolutely right! It is called popular arts!

And today we are going to read and discuss a very special kind of art! And

we’ll see whether we should call it an art or not!

II Основной этап

What popular arts do you know? I mean those that are developing nowadays?

Do you think architecture is a popular kind of art?

What materials are mostly used in architecture nowadays?

So we are going to read about a man who has created something new and he calls it architecture!

Have a look at the text I’ve given you! What is the title of the text? Do you have any guesses what the text will be about?

Wrapped Up.

People, bridges, buildings, rivers, valleys, even entire coastlines and islands, have all been wrapped up by the Bulgarian artist, Christo, his French wife, Jeanne-Claude, and their team of helpers.

One of their most spectacular projects was called Surrounded Islands. Eleven islands on the coast near Miami were surrounded by over six thousand square metres of pink plastic!

Another project was wrapping up the German Parliament building. A real challenge has been made. “Permission for that will never be given!” – said many skeptic people. Luckily, they were allowed to create. And when the wrapping of the building in golden fabric had finally been completed the glowing building became a real masterpiece. Christo said his work had never been so appreciated as at that time.

Two or three new projects are currently being developed by Christo and his team. One of them is in Colorado in the USA where the Arkansas River will be covered by 10 kilometres of shining fabric. They say that this work of art is made so that it could be seen from above. Thousands of people will be involved in constructing of  this piece of art. Christo’s projects are financed by the sale of his drawings in galleries all over the world.

Unfortunately his “wrap up” works are only exhibited for two or three weeks but many visitors manage to see them. For example, when Surrounded Islands were being shown many people saw them in the Internet.

Christo says that his works are a kind of architecture as he uses space, light and texture to make beautiful things!

That was well done. So what materials are used by Christo to wrap up different things?
