Ход мероприятия:

I. Оргмомент. Teacher: Dear friends! Today’s English Party is devoted to Rudyard Kipling. (Cлайд 1) Do you know who was he? Where was he from? What was he famous for? What else could you tell about him? (Cлайд 2)

Students 1-4: He was a writer. He was from England. He wrote many books. Kipling wrote the book about Mowgli.

II. Представление темы. Teacher: You are quite right. Rudyard Kipling was the great English writer and poet whose books are loved by both children and adults all over the world. He lived in the 19th and 20th centuries and was the witness of the prosperity and downfall of the world’s empires. Now we get to know with some book characters and make the virtual travelling to the Kipling’s life. Divide into two teams to compete who have the best knowledge and intelligence. (Учащиеся по жребию делятся на две команды, если в классе уже есть две группы, то они размещаются для удобной совместной работы).

III. Персонажи книг. Kim (одет в белую длинную рубашку и на его голове чалма): Hello! I’m Kimball O’Hara. I’m the main character from Kipling’s book “Kim”. My father was an Irish sergeant. My mum was an Indian nursemaid in the family of the British officer. My parents died when I was very small. I lived as an orphan on the streets of Lahore for some years. I speak Hindi and know Lahore Museum and its sights and mysteries well, all city's dark places, every nook, cranny, and hidden passage. To earn a living I carry messages across the city. Colonel Creighton, British India's spymaster, suggested me to become a British spy. I tried to study at the military academy, but it was unsuccessful attempt because of my beloved friend Tibetan lama, Teshoo. He taught me the principles of the Great Game, which refers to the political rivalry between Britain and Russia for territory, influence and dominance in the Near East, especially in India and Afghanistan. I endured many dangerous adventures and travels and understood what I wanted and that I was a man.

Harvey Cheyne (одет в тельняшку и на голове фуражка моряка): Hello, readers! I’m a main character from Kipling’s book “Captains Courageous”. My father is an American millionaire; he owns the railway company and many factories. My mum died in New York when I was small. I’m 12 years old and need to get the education in England. We went to Europe by the big, luxury, ocean liner The Queen Anne. When I ate six ice cream sodas, I began to vomit behind the board. Suddenly I fell into the ocean - unbeknownst to anyone. I was rescued by Manuel. He was a Portuguese fisherman the schooner We're Here. He thought that I was a spoiled rotten boy, because I couldn’t do even the simple work. The Captain of the schooner gave me the clothes of his son and promised to return me to America in three month when they filled the holds with fish. During the travelling I learned to work in the galley, move up to deck duty and stand watch. Manuel taught me about life and the ways of the sea - how to cut fish and other fishing techniques, human values and honesty. After the six month on the boat I changed my life absolutely.

Mowgli (одет в шорты и безрукавку, на шее нож в ножнах): Hello! Do you recognise me? I’m Mowgli the main human character in “Jungle Book” by Rudyard Kipling. When I was a baby, the wolves found me in the rainforest. They rescued me from the terrible, man-eating tiger Shere Khan. The wolf leader Akela adopted me to a wolf pack. They looked after me until I grew up. The strong bear Baloo, the graceful black panther Bagheera, the wise rock python Kaa taught me lessons in the Law of the Jungle “We are of one blood, you and I”. Only the silly Monkey People didn’t follow the Law of the Jungle because they kidnapped me and they paid their lives for it. I punished Shere Khan with Red Flower, showed him that I was a man and then killed him. My life was full of adventures, but my soul forced me to leave the jungle and take my place among the people. A kind woman looked after me but she couldn't protect me from the superstitious villagers who believed my friendship with wolves was the result of sorcery. My only escape was to return to the jungle.

Poems

The Elephant's Child.

        I Keep six honest serving-men:

  (They taught me all I knew)

Their names are What and Where and When

  And How and Why and Who.

I send them over land and sea,

  I send them east and west;

But after they have worked for me,

  I give them all a rest.

I let them rest from nine till five.

  For I am busy then,

As well as breakfast, lunch, and tea,

  For they are hungry men:

But different folk have different views:

  I know a person small--

She keeps ten million serving-men,

  Who get no rest at all!

She sends 'em abroad on her own affairs,

  From the second she opens her eyes--

One million Hows, two million Wheres,

  And seven million Whys!

How the Camel Got His Hump

      The Camel's hump is an ugly lump

  Which well you may see at the Zoo;

But uglier yet is the hump we get

  From having too little to do.

Kiddies and grown-ups too-oo-oo,

If we haven't enough to do-oo-oo,

    We get the hump--

    Cameelious hump--

The hump that is black and blue!

We climb out of bed with a frouzly head

  And a snarly-yarly voice.

We shiver and scowl and we grunt and we growl

  At our bath and our boots and our toys;

And there ought to be a corner for me

(And I know there is one for you)

    When we get the hump--

    Cameelious hump--

The hump that is black and blue!

The cure for this ill is not to sit still,

  Or frowst with a book by the fire;

But to take a large hoe and a shovel also,

  And dig till you gently perspire;

And then you will find that the sun and the wind.

And the Djinn of the Garden too,

    Have lifted the hump--

    The horrible hump--

The hump that is black and blue!

I get it as well as you-oo-oo--

If I haven't enough to do-oo-oo--

    We all get hump--

    Cameelious hump--

Kiddies and grown-ups too!

The Butterfly That Stamped.

       There was never a Queen like Balkis,

          From here to the wide world's end;

        But Balkis talked to a butterfly

          As you would talk to a friend.

        There was never a King like Solomon,

          Not since the world began;

        But Solomon talked to a butterfly

          As a man would talk to a man.

        She was Queen of Sabea --

          And he was Asia's Lord --

        But they both of 'em talked to butterflies

          When they took their walks abroad!

The Cat That Walked by Himself

       Pussy can sit by the fire and sing,

          Pussy can climb a tree,

        Or play with a silly old cork and string

           To 'muse herself, not me.

        But I like Binkie my dog, because

           He knows how to behave;

        So, Binkie's the same as the First Friend was,

           And I am the Man in the Cave!

        Pussy will play Man-Friday till

          It's time to wet her paw        And make her walk on the window-sill

          (For the footprint Crusoe saw);

        Then she fluffles her tail and mews,

          And scratches and won't attend.

        But Binkie will play whatever I choose,

          And he is my true First Friend!

        Pussy will rub my knees with her head

          Pretending she loves me hard;

        But the very minute I go to my bed

          Pussy runs out in the yard,

        And there she stays till the morning-light; So I know it is only pretend;

        But Binkie, he snores at my feet all night,

          And he is my Firstest Friend!
