1. Организационный момент.

Teacher - Good morning, children! How are you?

T - Today we are going to discuss how and where you obtain information.

2. Речевая зарядка.

T - But first answer some of my questions, please. Do you like to get more information than you know? What do you like to know about? Do you think you are very clever? Ok! Thank you very much.

3. Фонетическая зарядка.

T - Look at the board; here you can see a proverb. Try to read and translate this proverb. “Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today”.

II. Показ функционирования и использования усваиваемого материала.

1. Введение нового материала.

T - Today we will speak about unknown things around us and what helps you to get more information about the world. Today our lesson will not be typical. Today I’m going to listen to you only.  Please, open your books at page 85. Here you see some pictures with boys and girls in them. These English children like to learn new things. We can see that they do it with great pleasure and interest. Tell me, please, how many methods of getting new information do you know?

Pupil – I think that the best way to get new information is mass media. For example, television, radio, newspapers, the internet, magazines.

P – But I think that it’s more interesting to get new information going to the library or to the museum. You can see everything with your own eyes.

T - Ok, it’s very good. I can say that I agree with both of you. But today we will speak only about libraries and museums. Please, read the first article about the library.

“Come to our library and learn about the world around you. Beautiful books, textbooks, leaflets and cassettes will help you to discover, to create, to imagine, and to explore. We are waiting for you! You are welcome!  ”

2. Составление монологического высказывания.

T - And now look at the chalkboard; here you can see the view of Library of Congress. I think that you have heard where this library is. Library of Congress is in the USA. Try to write some words with which you can describe the view of this library.

P – big building,

stairs,

floors,

columns,

road,

windows,

books,

arches,

corridor,

walls,

ceilings,

statues,

chairs,

tables,

shelves.

T – And now you should use these words and tell us about this library.

P – I see a big building with two floors. Here you can walk up the stairs. On the first floor you see three archways and on the second floor you see big columns. This building is very beautiful and I think that this building is old. On the opposite side you can see the road. The road and the building are divided through the fence. On the opposite side we can see The United States Capitol Building.

T – Ok, thank you. It’s great. You have told us about the entrance in to this library. And now let’s imagine what kind of books we can find there.

P – I think that it may be historical, economic, political books. And of course, there are a lot of newspapers and magazines. And I think that in this library there are books in different languages.

T – And now let’s go to the Great Hall of Library of Congress. Who wants to describe this hall?

P – First, I see a big hall with the arches and columns. This hall is white. And we can see the beautiful colorful floor. I see a big picture on the floor. There are stairs on the first floor on the both sides. On the one wall of the stairs we can see the bust of Thomas Jefferson and on the other we can see the bust of George Washington.

T – Ok, well done. Thanks. Let’s go to the upper floor. Who wants to tell us about it?

P – I see a great corridor with lots of double columns. Each column has its arch. The color of arches and columns is white. And, of course, I see beautiful walls and the ceiling. These walls and the ceiling are very colorful. There we can see black, orange, yellow, red and white colors. In addition, I can see a lot of windows. They have square and circle forms. This corridor is very light.

T – It’s nice. Thank you. And now we will go to the main room of this library. It’s the Main Reading Room. Who wants to describe this room?

P – When I enter it I see a big circle hall. There are a lot of desks. In front of the door we can see two statues. Maybe both of these statues are the Statues of  Knowledge. We can also see the arches again. The wall near the door is decorated with angels and some titles. Here we see some chairs, tables, shelves. Let’s move on to the circle room. Here you see two floors with books. I think here we can find any books. And if you raise your head you will see a big dome. And, of course, we can see the windows in the form of arch.

T – Ok, excellent. Thanks. Tell me, please, what kind of information can you find in the libraries?

P – I think that I can find the information about famous people, buildings; any books about animals, trees, insects; scientific, geographical, political, historical books in the libraries.

T – Ok. And now let’s move on to the museum. Why is it interesting to visit the museum? Who wants to read the next article?

“Visit our museum! Here you can learn by playing. Explore by touching! Discover by doing! Make experiments! Come up with your ideas. Enjoy your visit!”

T – And now look at the board; here you can see the inside view of the Louvre Museum. Many of the world’s greatest works of art are housed in the Louvre Museum in Paris. Here, in one of the Louvre’s many galleries, visitors gather to look at Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, perhaps the museum’s greatest treasure. Please, try to describe what you see.

P – Ok, the first I see is the picture of Mona Lisa. It’s a very impressive sight. I feel that I am here, inside the Louvre Museum. There are a lot of pictures here. We can see that this room is very big. There are pictures of different forms and colors. We can see that the walls are very high. I think that we can get here the information about different painters and their pictures. We can also get the information about the history of these pictures. And, of course, we can enjoy the beauty of this museum.

T – Very good. Thank you. And our last museum for today will be the national Air and Space Museum. This museum is the Smithsonian Institution’s most popular museum. The National Air and Space Museum is the Smithsonian’s most-visited museum. Its vast collection of aircraft, spacecraft, and artifacts is the largest and most diverse of its kind in the world. Who wants to describe this museum?

P – The first thing I see is a big and high window. This window holds on iron sticks. The walls are too high here. I also see some airplanes. We can see many people around an astronaut. We can see that the airplanes are hung over the floor. The hall is very vast. I think that there we can get the information about airplanes, the history about airplanes, astronauts and about the first astronaut.

T – Perfect! Thanks. Today you learnt to describe all you could see. I think that you liked it.

3. Домашняя работа.

T – And now open your record books and write down your homework. Open your books at page 86. Here you can see Exercise III. Many children spend a lot of time watching TV. They think they can learn a lot from TV programs. Are they right? You should write which program is interested for you and why?

4. Итог урока.

T – Tell me please, what resources of getting  information do you know? Thank you for the work. The lesson is over. Good bye.

II. Показ функционирования и использования усваиваемого материала.

1. Введение нового материала.

T - Children and grown-ups spend their free time in different ways. Look in your books at page 209; here you can see a table with the most popular activities in Britain for grown-ups. Let’s read and translate. Please, answer one question: What are the most popular activities in Britain for grown-ups?

P – I think that today people are more interested in history. People want to know more about ancient time, about people and their history. And that’s why people visit historic places.

P – But I think that people more interest in culture and art. That’s why people are going to museums, theatres, opera, and ballet.

T – Thanks. It’s very good. I think that both of you are right.

2. Составление монологического высказывания.

T - Let’s discuss one of them. For example, going to museums. Look at the board. Here you can see the Louvre Museum; National Air and Space Museum; Museum in Château-d’Oex.  Please, describe what you see in this view of this museum. And answer my question: Why do people visit museums?

T – And now look at the chalkboard; here you can see a view of the Louvre Museum. Please, try to describe this museum.

P – I see a big hall with a lot of people inside. This hall has high walls in light brown color. I also see one entrance in this hall. On the wall there are a lot of different paintings. They are all of different forms and colors. We can see that people inside this hall are interested in these paintings. Of course, I see Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. This painting is behind the glass. I think that people come to the museum to see different colors and get some impression.

T – Thank you very much. It was very good. The next museum is National Air and Space Museum. Who wants to tell us what he or maybe she sees in this museum?

P – First I see it’s a big light hall. The walls are white. The main wall is made out of glass and iron. The floor has brown surface. We also can see an astronaut in a shuttle. I think that it’s the shuttle. I see a lot of different things, but I don’t know the names of these things. There are a lot of people. Some of them look at the astronaut; others are sitting on the floor. On the other side of this hall we see different airplanes are hung under the ceiling. Here there are people too. I also see a guide, who tells people about something. I think that people visit this museum to know more about aviation, airplanes, people and all that is connected to aviation. And, of course, people want to enjoy the view of airplanes.

T – Thanks so much for your description. You are well done. The last museum is Museum in Château-d’Oex. Please, try to describe what you see in this museum.

P – I think that this museum is the brightest museum I have ever seen in my life. Here we can see different colors. For example, orange, red, green, yellow and brown. The main color of this room is orange. This room is painted. We can see a lot of pictures on the ceiling, doors, and cupboards and so on. I also see some shelves, some cupboards, tables, chairs. There are some paintings on the walls. I see some baskets on the cupboards. There are a lot of different things, such as boxes, plates, and a lamp. I think that people go to this museum to see the decoration of people’s home in other times, and of course, to enjoy such variety of colors.

T – Thank you. Your description was very good. And now answer some of my questions. What do you and your family usually do in your free time together?

T - The following ads invite children to take part in different activities. Look in your books at pages 209 and 210. Here you can see some tables. Please read and translate them and then answer some of my questions.

Home, sweet home.                           Нет ничего лучше родного дома.

There’s no place like home.                 Восток или Запад, дома лучше всего.

East or West, home is best.               Дом, милый дом.

II. Показ функционирования и использования усваиваемого материала.

1. Введение нового материала.

T – Every country has its own famous people, things, traditions, places, events and habits. One of the Sunday newspapers The Observer offered its own selection of the 99 best items in Great Britain. British children – Nick, Tracy and Phil – offer their comments and opinions on three of the 99 items. But we won’t read all three opinions. We will read only one opinion. I think that this opinion will be the most interesting, because it’s about Loch Ness. Open your books at page 225, Text 2. Please, read and translate the task before this text.

2. Чтение текста.

P – What does Tracy think about Loch Ness, which has also been included in the list of British successes?

T – And now, who wants to read and translate this text?

P – First, Loch Ness is the third largest lake in Europe. Second, it is a lake that never freezes. Third, it has (our geography teacher says) underwater caves! Last, there is a mysterious thing in the loch – the Loch Ness Monster! My dad says there is no monster in the lake. It’s in people’s imagination. Besides, there is a big industry which attracts tourists. It’s a place where you can buy chocolate “Nessie’s”, T-shirts with “Nessie” on them, and other souvenirs. I for one think that there is no smoke without a fire.

T – Do you think Loch Ness is really attractive for tourists?

P – Loch Ness is the third largest lake in Europe. There is a mysterious thing in the loch – the Loch Ness Monster. It is a place, where you can buy chocolate “Nessie”, T-shirts with “Nessie” on them, and other souvenirs. Besides, there is a big tourist industry. They say there is no monster in the lake. Even more - it’s in people’s imagination.

III. Управление тренировкой в овладении материалом.

1. Места в Великобритании.

T – Open your books at page 226 and find the exercise 2. Please, read and translate the task to this exercise.

P – Here are some other items from the 99 best items of Great Britain. Why are they included in the list? What do you think? Give your comments.

T – And now, you see nine pictures. Please, try to read.

P – National parks, the Thames, galleries, the British Museums, Lollipop Lady, Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean, red telephone boxes, double-deckers, dogs.

T – Look at the chalkboard, here you can see some statements about London’s sights. Let’s read and translate them. And then try to choose the suitable statements to this view.

P – “The political center of the united Kingdom is the houses of parliament, located along the Thames River in London.”

“Westminster Abbey is both the oldest and most important of London’s great churches.”

“Trafalgar Square, public square in central London that commemorates the victory of British naval commander Viscount Horatio Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.”

“Saint Paul’s Cathedral, a major London landmark and the greatest achievement of architect Sir Christopher Wren, is a fine example of English Baroque architecture.”

“Big Ben tolls the hours in the clock tower of the Houses of Parliament.”

“Westminster Abbey, the most famous church in Great Britain, enshrining many of the traditions of the British people.”

“Big Ben is the great bell in the clock tower on the eastern end of the Houses of Parliament.”

T – And now you have learnt something new about this place. Try to describe the Houses of Parliament.

P – First I see is a big building and a road where there are a lot of people. I think that this building is the house of government. Yes, you have already said that this house is the Houses of Parliament. I see that this building is very old and beautiful. Next to the building there is a tower. I think that this tower is a clock, because I see a clock at this tower. It is Big Ben. Then, there is a river, Thames River. We can see a bridge over the river. Also there are some boats. The road where there are a lot of people is the bridge. We can see one more bridge aside. On both sides of the river there are a lot of old buildings. I also see that now it is 10.00 on the clock.

T – Thank you very much. And now answer my question why is the River Thames included in the list?

P – I think that the River Thames  is a very attractive place, because there are such places as the House of  Parliament and Big Ben. People want to see this big clock and, of course, they want to listen to the bell that rings every hour.

2. Россия.

T – Tell me, please, what are the best items in our country?

P – The Kremlin, Red Square, Moscow River, the Bolshoi Theater, the Bolshoi Ballet, Russian dolls.

T – And now let’s speak about the Kremlin. Look at the chalkboard; here you can see the view of the Kremlin and Red Square. And also you see some statements about Moscow’s sights. Let’s read and translate them. Then you should choose some of them that are suitable for this view.

P - “The Russian Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Basil is a well-known landmark in Moscow.”

“Red Square has long been the center stage of Moscow life.”

“The Bolshoi Theater dominates Sverdlov Square in Moscow.”

“Arbat Street is a narrow 19th-century pedestrian avenue in Moscow, Russia.”

“Moscow (river) or Moskva, river in western Russia, flowing through Moscow Oblast and part of Smolensk Oblast.”

T – And now you have learnt something new about the Kremlin. Try to describe the Kremlin.

P – First that I see is a great square. On this square there are a lot of beautiful buildings. I see Saint Basil’s Cathedral that has different colorful domes. The next building is the Savior’s Tower. This tower has a clock and at the top of this tower there is a star. Then we see that this tower has a long wall. Near this wall there are a lot of fir trees. There is also the Presidium behind this wall. If we go to the Kremlin Gardens we can see Tsar Bell, Ivan the Great Bell Tower, Trinity Tower, Cathedral of the Twelve Apostles, Senate Building, Statue of Lenin, and Cathedral of Archangel Michael. And now let’s move on to the Cathedral Square. Here you can see Cathedral of the Dormition, Ivan the Great Bell Tower, Secret Tower. These buildings look very old. We also see the Cathedral of the Annunciation. This Cathedral is white. And you see the stairs to the Palace of Facets. Let’s continue our trip and go on to the Tsar Cannon. Here we can see the Tsar Cannon, St. Nicholas’s Tower, and Alarm Tower. Near the Tsar Cannon there are some shells. And now come back to Red Square. And, of course, there is the Lenin Mausoleum. Then we can see State Historical Museum, Resurrection Gate. And the last there are some buildings that stand in succession.

T – Thank you very much for your answer. It’s great. And now open your books at page 227 and find the exercise 3. Please, read the task to this exercise. Are there many famous sights in your country? What are they famous for?

3. Домашнее задание.

T – And now open your record books and write down your homework. Your homework is to write an essay about Russia. What attracts you in our country?
