Learning more about the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Цель урока: Совершенствование и систематизация лексических навыков в устной и письменной речи по теме «The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland»  

Задачи урока: повторение и закрепление лексики по теме, развитие коммуникативных навыков, развитие мышления, внимания, воображения, воспитание  творческих способностей учащихся.

Планируемые результаты:

Предметные:

Знать: основные ЛЕ и их сочетаемость для осуществления речевой деятельности – построения высказывания по теме «Соединённое королевство»;

Уметь: понимать на слух учителя в процессе урока, ответы учащихся, реагировать на задаваемые вопросы, строить монологическое высказывание с опорой на план.

Личностные: воспитание интереса к англоязычной культуре.

Метапредметные: умение работать в паре и самостоятельно; развитие речи; способности к концентрации и распределению внимания.

Основные понятия (лексические единицы): The UK, England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, London, Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff.

                                             Ход урока:

  1. Организационный момент

Teacher: Good morning. Sit down, please. I` m very glad to see you. Who is absent today? How are you today? What date is it today? What is the weather like today?

Teacher: Look at the pictures on the blackboard.

What do you think about the topic of our lesson today?

Pupil: I think the topic of our lesson is “The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”.

Teacher: What is the aim of our lesson?

Pupil: The aim of our lesson is to to speak about the UK

Teacher: What will we do today?

Pupils:  We will read,  speak.

  1. Основная часть

1. Повторение и актуализация опорных знаний.

Teacher:  Let’s revise. What countries does the UK consist of? Today you will talk about these countries. What is the plan to describe a country?

Plan

  1. Name
  2. Capital
  3. Flag
  4. Places of interest/ sights
  5. National symbol
  6. National day

Teacher:  Good. Let’s divide into four groups. The first group will describe England, the second group will present Scotland, the third and the fourth groups will describe Wales and Northern Ireland respectively.

2. Введение новой информации.

Teacher:  Well done. What nationalities are people living in the UK?

Pupil: They are the English, the Scottish, the Welsh, the Irish.

Teacher: Write down these words.

Teacher: Now I would like you to watch the Four Nations video. But before watching do the preparation task. Draw a line to match the pictures with the words below.

Teacher: Very good. Watch the video. Pay attention to traditions.

 Teacher:Read the sentences and complete the gaps with a word from the box.

  1. Just over five million people live in Scotland.
  2. Nearly three million  people live in wales.
  3. Northern Ireland is home to just under two million people.
  4. The population of England is around fifty million people.
  5. The Edinburgh Festival has been celebrated art. Theatre and culture for over sixty years.
  6. About twenty percent of Welsh people speak Cymraeg.

Teacher:  To check your understanding you have to write the words in the correct group.

Teacher:  What are the British people like?

Pupils: They are tolerant, enchanting, very nice, polite, friendly. They like drinking tea and talking about the weather.

Teacher: Good. I’ll read about famous British people and you’ll guess them.

1.He was a famous English scientist. He discovered the theory of gravity by watching the fall of an apple from a tree. (Isaak Newton)

2. He is an English singer and musician. He was a member of a popular rock group “The Beatles” (Paul McCartney)

3. He was a famous English officer of the Royal Navy. There is a great monument in Trafalgar Square in his honour (Horatio Nelson)

4. She was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. People call her “The Iron Lady”. (Margareth Thatcher)

5. He was a Scottish poet. They call him “The Bard”. On the 25th of January people remember him and read his poems (Robert Burns)

Teacher:  Well done. Let’s make short dialogues using these expressions.

-What country would you like to go to?

-I’d like to go to….

-Why?

-It’s………….. (I’d like to visit, see……)……….

III. Подведение итогов

Teacher:  Today we’ve talked about different countries, cities, nationalities, famous people. What have you learnt? What was the most interesting (easy, difficult)? Who was the most active?

I’ll give excellent (good) marks to…..

Your homework is to write a cinquain about any country of the UK.
