5. What is the capital of England?
6. What other cities or towns do you know?
7. Would you like to learn more information about them?

1. The UK consists of 4 countries.
2. They are England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

- It’s England. I think so because:

1. I can see a red rose. The red rose is the national symbol of England.
2. I can see a flag. This flag is called the St George’s Cross.
3. I can see Big Ben. It’s in England.
4. I can see the Queen Elizabeth II.

1. English is the official language.
2. The climate is cool and changeable.
3. England is rich in parks  and gardens.
4. This country is famous for Big Ben, Tower Bridge, Buckingham Palace…

It’s time to learn more about English cities and towns. Let’s learn new words. Look at the slide. Listen and repeat after me.

A conference - a large meeting where people come together to discuss ideas

An exhibition - a public show where art and other interesting things are put so that people can go and look at them

ex. 68 p. 92 - Listen and repeat.

-ex. 69 p. 92 - Read the texts. Match the pictures and the information from the booklets.

Look at the slide to learn some additional information.

-What common information do these texts have?

Let’s make a plan which will be useful while telling about these cities and towns.

The plan:

1. The name of the town/the city
2. Where it is situated
3. When it was founded
4. The population
5. What it is famous for

-Which city/town of England would you like to visit and why? Use the plan.

-Let’s imagine the following situation. Some of you live in English cities and towns. And others are from Russia. They are tourists. They are visiting England. Work in groups and ask and answer the questions about the place you are visiting. Use the plan. (divide them into groups)

Let’s listen to group 1/2/3.Tell us about the place you are visiting.

Tell me who was the most active in your group.

Did your new friends answer all your questions?

Did you like English schoolchildren? Are they friendly?

-Now schoolchildren from English towns and cities are going to visit our native town. Look at the photo on the screen and tell me about our town.

-Tell about Slantsy using the plan.

Students are listening to the tape, reading the text and doing the task.
