- Good morning, I am glad to see you. Sit down, please.

So, I think we are ready to start our lesson.

How are you?

During our lesson we are going to discuss a very important problem. Now watch the film about the most beautiful planet in the Universe and try to guess the topic of our discussion.

Teacher: So today we`re going to speak about ecological problems and the theme of our lesson is “Save the Earth!”(«Спасите Землю!») (Слайд 1)

 One of the most important problems in our life is the pollution of the environment. People all over the world are worried about what is happening to the environment. They understand that the Earth is their common home, a big green home. We`ll discuss the problems of the environment today. (Слайд 2).

Today we will learn some new words and do a lot of exercises.

Teacher: I`d like to begin our lesson with the question: What problems are there in the environment today? Think a little.

 - a power station\factory

 - toxic fumes

- factory waste

 - acid rain

- polluted clouds

- air, water and soil pollution

- loss of natural habitat

- fish and plant species dying

Look at the screen. (Слайд 3-4).

 Use the words and try to name these problems.

Let`s remember some words which will be useful to speak about our theme. I`m sure that some of them are already known to you, some words are new.

Pair-work. You will get the cards. Match the words as quickly as you can. (Слайд 5-6).

Acid rain

Air pollution

Water pollution

Soil pollution

Have a look at the presentation and find out the definitions. (Слайд 9-12).

Acid rain - rain mixed with acids formed by gases released into the atmosphere when fossil

fuels are burned.

Air pollution is the introduction of harmful materials into Earth's atmosphere, causing disease,

death to humans, damage to other living organisms such as food crops, or the natural or built

environment.

Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies (e.g. lakes, rivers, oceans and

groundwater).

Soil pollution is caused by the presence of human-made chemicals or other alteration in the

natural soil environment. It is typically caused by industrial activity, agricultural chemicals, or improper disposal of waste.        

Teacher:  Now, let’s watch a presentation.

You have to know some word-combinations. They can help you to understand the text. Look on the black board.

Cars burn petrol – Машины вырабатывают топливо.

Power stations emit toxic fumes – Электростанции осуществляют токсичные выбросы.

This pollution is gathered in the clouds.–

Эти загрязнения скапливаются в облаках.

This pollution lands on trees. –Эти загрязнения оседают на деревьях.

Sleet – Дождь со снегом.

It wipes out fish. – Это уничтожает рыбу.

It poisons trees. – Это уничтожает деревья.

It has been trying to reduce – Пытается сократить.

While watching it you have to write down some notes and be ready to answer some questions about the environment:

1) What is the cause of air pollution?

2) How does acid rain appear?

 3) What effect does water pollution have?

4) Why is soil pollution so dangerous? 

 5) What can we do to solve this problem?

Teacher: During our lessons I’ve been trying to convince you that environmental problems are very important. People and their actions are responsible for bad air, unclean water, and polluted land. It’s our common fault and now we should not only stop and think but do something to make the situation better. First of all, let’s follow these simple rules which must be a law for us.
