3. The 20th century is famous for… well done. As you know we have been discussing the problems of science and technology at our lessons and today you’ll have to show your knowledge at our lesson. Some people believe that technology will save the world and make it better, others think that technology will destroy our society. Answer the following questions: 1. What does science study? 2. What is technology? 3. What periods in the history of technology do you know? 4. How has the human society changed thanks to the achievements in technology?

  • Science studies the physical world.
  • Technology is the use of science for practical purposes. Technology is also methods, machines and tools that are used in doing things in a science or profession.
  • We know the Old and New Stone Ages, the Bronze Age, the Iron Age, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Industrial Revolution.
  • Achievements in transportation, communications and use of energy have had a great influence on the modern society. Medical knowledge has given people longer and healthier lives. Computers are giving us new opportunities at work and at home. Now people have better living standards and much more free time.

1. It is an instrument used to collect light from an object, to bring the light to a focus and produce an image.

2. It is a device that generates “well-organized” light. Nowadays these devices are widely used in different ways, among which is medicine.

3. This is a mechanical, electrical device that measures the passage of time. It must be carefully regulated to make them run accurately.

4. This device is based on a microprocessor, a small chip that performs the operation of a central processing unit. Modern models have memories in the megabyte to gigabyte which is a great improvement.

5. The appearance of this device changed the way of life of many people, who changed their habits forever in favor of interesting and exciting programs.

6. It is a really impressive invention. The greatness of it implies the ability to prolong life of many products in cold environment.

5. Развитие навыков монологической речи. Контроль домашнего задания. Совершенствование навыков устной речи при выполнении заданий ОГЭ. (Задание 3, раздел «Говорение»)

5. You had to prepare some talks on such topics: “The influence of modern technologies on our life”.” The era of computers”. “ The mobile phones”

Релаксация. Let’s have a rest and play a game “What do I mean?” Try to guess what invention I am going to speak about.” It’s very popular with people of all ages. We use it when we want to have a rest. We can get all information about what happens all over the world. We can see a lot of different programs on it.”

8. Let’s work in groups. I’m going to hand out the cards. Each group has its own task. You’ll have 2 minutes to do the task.

1gr.- Make up the names of these devices.

2 gr.- divide the names of tools and devices into the categories.

3 gr.- match the sciences with technologies.

4 gr.- say whose invention or discovery it is. (Appendix 3)

2 gr.- tools we use in the garden: spade, rake, hoe, knife.

3 gr.- electronics-making microchips, biology- cloning, chemistry- making new materials, ballistics- making guns, optics- using microscopes and telescopes, linguistics- language teaching and learning, agronomy- farming.

T: Good morning, boys and girls! I am glad to see you! Welcome to our English lesson! As far as you know, we have been discussing the problems of science and technology at our lessons and today, you’ll have an opportunity to use your knowledge on our lesson. Some people think that technology will save the world and make it better, some others think that technology will ruin the society.

T: Have a look at the pictures and say what inventions have been made by the end of the 20th century .Why do people use them?(фотографиинаэкране)

1. Camera (we use a camera to take photos)
2. Microwave oven (we use it to cook,defrost,warm pre-prepared food)
3. TV set (we use it to have fun or entertain)
4. Vacuum cleaner (we use it to clean up liquids,dust and waste and shampooing)
5. Mobile phone(we use it to receive or make calls or messages)
6..Dishwasher(we use it to wash dishes)
7.Fax machine(we use it to send and receive urgent messages)

So, computer has become an important part of our life – some people can admire it, some can call it “devil”, but no one can deny it.
