St Valentine’s Day

Целью мероприятия является: расширение знаний учащихся о культуре страны изучаемого языка (празднование Дня Святого Валентина).
Задачи:
Развивающая:
1) развитие памяти, внимания, логического мышления, речи (вокабуляр);
2) совершенствование умений учащихся работать в команде.
3)развитие познавательного интереса у учащихся к традициям и обычаям страны изучаемого языка.
Образовательная:
1)повторение изученной лексики;
2)расширение словарного запаса учащихся.
Воспитательная:
1) познакомить учащихся с традициями празднования «Дня Святого Валентина» в стране изучаемого языка.
Тип урока: внеклассное мероприятие.
Форма: игра.
Формы работы учащихся: групповая работа.
Оборудование: компьютер, проектор, видео, карточки с заданиями.

  1. Dear Friends! You are welcome to our party, dedicated to St. Valentine’s Day, which is always held on February 14th and brings us happiness and good luck. St. Valentine’s Day is one of the popular holidays in Europe and America.
  2. The symbols of St Valentine’s Day.
  3. No one really knows the actual origin of Saint Valentine’s Day. I think it has its roots in several different legends that have found their way through the ages. We know that Valentine was a priest in Rome a long time ago. He was a very good priest and many people liked him.

Let’s read one of the legends.  

  1. Let’s divide into 2 teams. "Romeo" is the name of the 1st team. '' Juliet'' is the name of the 2nd team.

4) Love me, love my dog.  Любишь меня, люби мою собаку.

5) All is fair in love and war. В любви и на войне всё дозволено.

Let’s play the game “Who stole my heart?” A child sits with her back to the class. Her hands are holding a paper heart. Another child is chosen to walk up as quickly as he can take the heart. He returns to his seat and puts the heart out of sight. The child in front turns around and says: “Who stole my heart? Was it you…?” She has 3 guesses. If she guesses correctly, she stays in front and plays again. If she does not guess correctly, the person who stole the heart gets to go in front.

Saint Valentine’s Day is on the 14th of February.  

People all around the world write cards for their boyfriends or girlfriends on this day.  Lots of people buy flowers and other gifts on St. Valentines Day.  

But why do we have this day?  Who was the first Valentine?  This is the story of Saint Valentine.

                        

About 1700 years ago there was a man called Valentine.  

He was a priest.  He liked to see young people in love.  

He wanted people to get married because he wanted them to have a family.    

                        

But the Emperor Claudius didn’t want men to get married.  

He wanted men to fight in the army.

He wanted more soldiers.  

Valentine didn’t agree.  

He helped men and women to get married in secret.  

Emperor Claudius didn’t know about this.

When Claudius heard the story of Valentine, he was

very angry.  He put Valentine in jail for 20 years.  

After twenty years, Claudius killed Valentine on February 14th.

Everybody thought Valentine was a good man because he helped lovers.  That’s why we have St. Valentine’s Day every year.

St VALENTINE´s GAME - WHO IS MY VALENTINE?

This is a conversation game for elementary to lower intermediate students, adapted from similar game called Who is the burglar?

It practices simple questions:

What´s your name? How old are you? Where are you from?/Where do you live? What color is your hair? What color are your eyes? What´s your job? What´s your phone number? What´s your hobby? What´s your favorite color? Could you tell me more about yourself?

  1. Give each student a character card. Each card has a small number in the lower right corner (1-16) to be identified easily. Make sure that you choose a number to be Valentine before you hand the card out to the students.
  2. Tell the students to look at their card and notice the number but don´t show/tell anyone.
  3. “Identify” Valentine by saying “Number 13  is Valentine” so only one person and you know who Valentine is. The person should behave secretive so the other won´t notice who it is.
  4. Now tell them the story. The story could be adapted according to your ideas and according to the cards.
  5. You can point out some clues or vocabularies from the text and the cards to avoid misunderstanding.
  6. Tell the students to go around the class and ask simple questions (above) to find out who Valentine is.
  7. After they find out tell them not to tell anyone and wait till the end of the search game.

STORY:

Hello, my name is Valentine and I am desperately in love. I´m going to tell you my story: Yesterday in the afternoon around 5 p.m. I met a person near the café Lovetery who immediately caught my eye. It was love at first sight but because love is blind I have noticed only few things according to which I hope I could recognize my Love. The person is in his/her thirties with grey eyes, wore pink hoodie and stripped socks. I fell head over heels for this person and we hugged and kissed. After that I found blonde hair on my shoulder and I realized that I was holding a piece of paper torn out of a book, probably a book of spells, with a part of a phone number ending in number 7. Please help me to find the person I´m crazy about because I want to send him/her a Valentine´s Card. So who is my Valentine?

Note: Writing in bold could be adapted according to the cards. Underlined parts are idioms or collocations connected with love. Be careful not to give a clue if you are searching for a male or female character.
