Ход урока: Открытый урок по теме «Архитектурные стили»

Оргмомент. Сообщение целей. Снятие языкового барьера.

T: Hello, my dear friends!

P: Hello, Oksana Shagenovna!

T: How are you?

P: We are fine, thank you. And what about you?

T: I am fine too. Today I invite you to travel. Lets travel to different cities with its architecture, numerous problems-pollution, heavy traffic, fast tempo of living, and of course we will do sightseeings! I think the best title for our lesson is “The city of my dream”. Do you agree? So, let us start!

Речевая зарядка:

Do you live in a town or in the country? Is it where you would always like to live? Why? Why not?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of living in a big city and living in a small place?

Do you think teenagers may have problems of their own connected  with living in a big city? What are they?

 What is the future of huge megapolises? Do you think they will continue to attract people? Will they fuse into massive single units or fall apart? What will life in such cities be like?

T: Thank you very much, my dear  friends. What have we known through these questions?

Ancient - very old

Barouque – an architectural style of an old period

Byzantine- – an architectural style, which was used in ancient times

Gothic - – an architectural style of medivial period

Modern- – an architectural style, which is used nowadays

Postmodern- – an architectural style, which will be used in the future

Neoclassical-– an architectural style which can be seen now

Renaissance- – an architectural style of the period of revival

Romanesque - – an architectural style of an old period in England

Translate the sentences bellow into English:

Матвей Федорович Казаков, построивший МГУ, был русским архитектором неоклассического стиля.

В 1775 году, предполагалось, что Царицыно будет оформлено в нетрадиционном для того времени готическом стиле.

Все  произведения Микеланджело, архитектора эпохи возрождения, являются титаническими по своему характеру, их свобода безмерна и уникальна.

В Англии, романский стиль, традиционно называется норманнской архитектурой.

Неоклассический стиль  считается истинно петербургским в России.

Здание оперного театра в Сиднее построено в постмодернистском стиле.

T: You were divided into two groups and had to make a project “ A city of my dream”. I hope you were friendly and helpful while you were working on this project  and I think the results  will be excellent.

Just imagine. You would like to live in a city of your dream. Make us sure, that your city is worth living. I invite three of you from each group. One of you will play a role of a guide, others- a correspondent and a tourist. Let us start.

Listening

T: Now, my friends, it is time to listen to the five guidebook texts about English towns and say which of the towns:

Is an important centre of automobile production.

Has two parts that do not look alike

Is a well- known resort

Has a lot of vegetation

Was founded for military purposes by Romans.

Match the texts with the pictures.

Say which of the places mentioned in, you would like to visit and why.

Reading, using the mind maps.

T: Its time to read the texts about Saint- Petersburg ,then use the mind maps.

        

P: I would like to tell about Saint- Petersburg, using the mind map.

Making up the situations

Situation1. Imagine that one of you is planning to leave town for the country and the other on the contrary is going to move to a big city. Talk to each other and try to convince your partner that he / she is making a mistake.

Situation2: What are the advantages and disadvantages of living in a megapolis?

Situation 3: Try to imagine what big cities will be like within about fifty years. Speak about different aspects of city life: a) size b) variety buildings c)transport d) traffic jam

Рефлексия.

Now we come to the conclusion. Look at lists which are on your desks and put the following features of city life under the categories of “good point” and  “bad point”.

Streets are crowded with people

The system of municipal transport is well-developed

Heavy traffic and traffic jams in rush hours are a typical feature

There are a lot of things to see and to do

The level of noise is too high for a person to feel comfortable

There is a wide range of entertainments  

There are a good opportunities for getting a good education and making a successful career

People have to continue to work covering long distances every day

The criminal situation  in big cities usually leaves much to be desired

You are hardly ever left along or at one with nature.

Thank you very much. Your home task is writing a letter to you friend and tell him about what is the future of the country.
