Тема:  We are in Global Village

Класс: 9

Цель: Воспитание у старшеклассников толерантности, уважения и чувства ответственности за чужие страны и народы мира.

Задачи:

  1. Расширение знаний учащихся по страноведению Соединенного королевства Великобритании и Северной Ирландии, США и Российской Федерации.
  2. Развитие устной монологической речи учащихся.
  3. Совершенствование навыков аудирования.
  4. Закрепление употребления учащимися разделительных вопросов.

Формы и методы проведения: прослушивание, фонетическая отработка, чтение, пересказ, тест, ответы на вопросы

Ход урока

I. Организационный момент.

 The theme of our lesson is «We are in Global Village». Today you will understand how important to be tolerant, to respect other countries’ traditions. Please, read the epigraph and try to explain its meaning. Some pupils explain the meaning of the word «tolerant».

II. Фонетическое зарядка.

Упражнение на закрепление tag-question: «Mongolia is a country, isn’t it?»

Read the new geographical words in the following chart. Tell your partner which of them are countries, cities, rivers, lakes and mountains. Take turns giving your answers.

Example: «Mongolia is a country, isn’t it?»

«Yes. You are right. Cardiff is a city, isn’t it? »

I want to learn what you know about these countries. Questions are on the interactive board. Open your copy-books and write down only answers to the questions.

  1. What is the capital of the USA? (Washington D.C.)
  2. What is the area of the Russian Federation? ( 17 million sq km)
  3. What is the population of the UK? ( 59 million)
  4. What are the four parts of the UK? ( Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland)
  5. What is the official language of the USA? ( English)
  6. Name major cities of the UK? (Glasgow, Liverpool, Leeds, Belfast, etc.)
  7. How many states are there in the USA? ( 50)
  8. Where is the UK located? ( to the north-west of Europe)
  9. What is the highest mountain of the R.F.? (Elbrus)
  10. What is the longest river of the USA? ( The Mississippi)
  11. How many states were there in USA when it was organized? ( 13)
  12. What American holidays do you know? (The Thanksgiving Day, The Independence Day, etc.)
  13. Is football or skiing a national sport of G. Britain?( football)
  14. What is the main dish at Christmas in G. Britain?(Fried turkey with apples)
  15. Where is Cambridge located?( in England)

IV. Развитие навыков монологической речи.

I have some questions about travelling.Устная беседа.

  1. Do you like travelling?
  2. Would you like traveling by car or by plane (by bus or by train)?
  3. Would you prefer a packaged tour or a tour on your own?
  4. Have you ever been to Ufa (Moscow, London, Paris…)?
  5. Would you like to visit London (Washington….)?
  6. What sights of the UK do you know?
  7. Would you like to travel with your family or with friends?
  8. What foreign language do you speak?
  9. Do you think it’s easier to travel if you know English? Why?
  10. What place would you visit in the USA?
  11. Do you think it’s important to follow the traditions and the customs of the country you visit?
  12. Can you speak about one of the traditions of the UK or the USA?
  13. Do you like your native country? Would you like to move to another country?

THE teacher analyses the answers and pays attention to the fact how important to know and respect the language and traditions of the country you go to.

I suggest you to look through some sights of the UK, the USA and the R.F.

VI. Развитие навыков аудирования с целью понимания необходимой информации.

Now you will listen to and then read the texts about the official names of Britain, America and Russia.

Учащиеся слушают, а затем читают тексты. (проверяются навыки чтения).

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The official or political name of the country is The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. At the United Nations and in the European Parliament, it is usually known by a shorter name: The United Kingdom or the abbreviation THE UK.

The country is often called Britain. The poetic name of the country is Albion. The geographical name of the country is The British Isles because the country occupies the islands, which are called the British Isles.

The United States of America.

The official or political name of the country is The United States of America because the country consists of 50 states. The country is usually known by a shorter name or the abbreviation THE USA or THE US. The country is often known as America because of the name of the continent. America is the geographical name of the country.

The Russian Federation.

The official or political name of the country is The Russian Federation, which has the abbreviation RF. It is also called Russia. The local long form is Rossiyskaya Federatciya. The local short form is Rossiya. Before the revolution in 1917, it was known as the Russian Empire. Then afterwards it was known as the Russian Soviet Federal Socialist Republic – RSFSR. The poetic name of the country is RUS.

VII. Презентация проектов по теме «Англоязычные страны и родная страна».

 It’s time to listen to your home topics about one of these countries. Please, speak on.

Учащиеся рассказывают приготовленные дома топики об одной из заданных стран.

VIII. Подведение итогов урока.

Dear students, today we have spoken about some foreign countries. I think you understand how important to know the traditions and some facts of the development of the country you are going to. It’s also very important to know the language of the country and follow its traditions while you stay in this or that country.

To cooperate and to live in peace in today’s multicultural Global Village, we have to learn and understand each other to escape culture conflicts and shocks when meeting.
