SMOKING

Цель урока:         Активизация лексики по теме «Здоровый образ жизни»                                 в устной речи.

Задачи урока: 

1. Учебные.

  • Формирование коммуникативных навыков (аудирование, чтение, говорение).
  • Расширение лексического  запаса по теме «Здоровый образ жизни» на основе прочитанного текста, прослушанной информации.
  • Совершенствование навыков неподготовленной монологической и диалогической речи.
  • Выработка умения выражать свою точку зрения на предложенную тему.

2. Развивающие.

  • Развитие умений работать в парах и группах.
  • Развитие умений высказывать свою точку зрения по проблеме.

3. Воспитательные.

  • Формирование экологического мировоззрения, отрицательного отношения к курению.

Ход урока

1. Введение темы

Teacher:        Look at the blackboard; read the list of ideas what is useful or                         harmful for your health.

  1. Eating fruits and vegetables
  2. Sunbathing
  3. Smoking cigarettes
  4. Going to the gym
  5. Laughing a lot
  6. Running every day
  7. Watching television
  8. Learning new things
  9. Not having breakfast

Pupils:        Smoking cigarettes is not good for health.

Teacher:        Yes, you are quite right.  Today we're going to talk about smoking                 and why we shouldn't smoke (слайд 2).

2. Формирование навыков чтения (раздаточный материал  ‘’Alarming facts”)

"Did you know that:

Tobacco use causes more than 40,000 deaths every year. That's a lot of people!”

Side stream and second-hand smoke (the smoke that comes off the end of a cigarette and the smoke a smoker breathes out) is really dangerous for children because children have smaller lungs.

Having smaller lungs means kids need to breathe in and out more often, so kids get more smoke in their lungs.

Once you start smoking it's really hard to stop. Smoking is addictive. You might know some grownups (parents, family members) who smoke and find it really hard to quit. So it's better not to start smoking in the first place."

Teacher:        Why is smoking dangerous?

                When do teenagers   usually start smoking?

Pupil 1:        At the age of 14-15

Teacher:        How many kids start smoking every year?

Pupil 2:        3900

Teacher:        Do many middle school students smoke?

Pupil 3:        Not. Only 1 student from 5.

Teacher:        But why do those who smoke  ever begin?

Pupils:        - They are curious.

                - Their friends are doing it.

                - They think it is cool.

                - They want to feel grown up

                - Their parents or family members smoke.

                - Media and advertising makes smoking seem cool.

Teacher:        Why is smoking bad for you? How does smoking affect your body?

Pupils:        - bad breath

                - yellow teeth

                - smelly clothes

                - more colds and coughs

                - difficulty keeping up with friends when playing sports

                - empty wallet — cigarettes and tobacco products are very                                    expensive

Every day in Britain, about 300 people die early 1) ________ smoking.    Smoking causes many diseases   2) ________ lung cancer, bronchitis and coronary heart disease. Teacher:        Most people think that they can give up smoking whenever they                         want. How do you think is it easy or difficult to give up smoking?

Pupils:        It is easy.

Teacher:        (слайд 9) Mark Twain said: “Giving up smoking is the easiest thing                 in the world, I know it because I have done it thousands of times”

                That is why we must learn how to say “Not”.

5. Формирование навыков разговорной речи.  Ролевая игра “Learn to say  NOT” (слайд 10).

Teacher:        Divide into 4 groups. What would you do if someone asked you to                 smoke?

One student has 2 minutes to convince the other student to have a cigarette.

Students must think of ways to refuse the cigarette or use these strategies.

Strategies to resist the pressures to smoke

1) Say "No":

  • "No thanks."
  • "I'm not interested."
  • "Being athletic is too important to me."

2) Change the subject

3) Tell the truth:

  • "I'm allergic."
  • "Smoking stinks, and it makes you stink too."
  • "Smoking makes your teeth yellow."

4) Use humor

  • "I can't smoke. I'd never make it past my mom's smoke detector: her nose!"

5) Give a reason:

  • "I don't want to smoke. Besides, it makes you smell bad."
  • "I'm not going to smoke. It's bad for you."
  • "I promised my sister that I'd never smoke."
  • "I'm on the basketball team. I need strong lungs

6) Provide other options:

  • "I'd rather beat you at basketball!"
  • "How about seeing a movie instead?"

7) Leave

8) Tell a story:

  • "No thanks, my brother got really sick on that stuff once. It was disgusting."
  • "My grandma died from smoking. I don't want that to happen to me or you!"

Итог:                "Today we learned:

                That smoking is dangerous for you health and affects your health                 in different ways.

                How to say “no” to smoking.

                It's better not to try smoking in the first place."
