Урок английского языка в 11 классе по теме

 «То clone  or  not  to  clone?»

Приёмы:

Цель:   Развитие умения аудирования и  говорения, формирование лингвокультурной  компетенции.

Задачи:

• Образовательные:

• Расширение кругозора по теме «Сloning»

• Реализация межпредметных связей (Биология, Генетика)

• Ознакомление с  мнением ученого, с некоторыми фактами из истории клонирования

• Развивающие:

• Развитие критического мышления через аудирование текста, письмо
• Развитие умения работы в группах

• Воспитательные:

• Воспитание толерантного отношения к мнениям других людей

Оборудование урока:  аудиозапись текстов,  карточки для учащихся, проектор, презентация

Ход  урока:

Teacher: Good morning, students. Today we are going to talk  about an amazing medical breakthrough, but it may have unpredictable  consequences. Look at the screen and try to guess what we are going to talk about ( демонстрация слайдов).

What do you think about it? Is it good or not?

We shall listen to the texts about cloning and we shall try to answer very controversial question : «To clone or not to clone?» But at first I want you to fill this cluster:

3. Listen to the  text and check your answers. Ex. 68. Which of the facts do you find the most amazing?

4. The topic of the lesson is : To clone or not to clone? What are the reasons to clone?  You have  the sheets of paper with  the chart.  Listen to the people’s opinions about cloning  and fill in  the second column of the chart. Put the cross if a person supports cloning and minus if  the person is against it.

8. To clone or not to clone?  To come to the conclusion I propose you to fill the scheme called “fishbone” You know the problem, please find out the reasons and facts, and write down  your opinion on this   question.

9. Possible answers:

Cloning people could be dangerous and  morally unacceptable.

Cloning animals may help farming industry.

Cloning body organs may help save many patients lives.

Conclusion: It’s an amazing medical breakthrough, but the process  could stop at cloning  organs, it doesn’t  have to go any further.

10.  The topic of our  conversation  today was very serious and controversial. We have spoken much about cloning  and discussed the problem of to clone or not to clone. I’d like to thank you for your work at the lesson.

Facts about cloning.

Cloning,  in   scientific terms, started  off  being a natural  phenomenon: identical twins, triplets, quads  etc.  are   in  fact  clones!  This is because  they  have identical  DNA  or deoxyribonucleic  acid- the y  are  simply  copies of each other.

The term “ clone” is  derived  from  the  Greek  word for twig- a very small thin branch  from a tree or bush.

Mice formed from embryo  cells were first cloned in Russia in  1986.

Dolly, a sheep , was the first mammal  to have been successfully cloned from an adult cell. She was cloned at the Roslin  Institute in Scotland and lived there  until her death at six years of age. Her birth had been announced on the 22 of February 1997.

Cloned animals age faster, then  normal animals.

“ It’s  allowed medical research  to advance at a faster pace. Scientists  are now  discovering  alternative  methods  to find  cures  for  diseases, because  cloning is  allowing  them to discover  more  about  genetics”.

“The  thought  of a  cloned  person  walking  the street … well.  I don’t  want  to even  think  about it.  It  makes  me  worry,  and  I am  sure  many  others ,  about  the  future”.

“ The  farming  industry  in  this  country  could  be  helped  greatly  by  cloning  cattle  and  then  maybe  farming  could  it  get  back  on  its  feet”.

‘If  cloned  babies  became  a  way  of  helping  childless  couples  to  have  babies,  this  would  be  extremely  dangerous  and  morally  unacceptable.  If  a  couple  can’t  have  a  child , they  should  adopt “.

“I  am  not  really  into  the  whole  cloning  thing,  but  it’s  interesting  (if  not  scary)  how  far  they’ve  come  in  a  such  short  time”.
