        Обобщающий урок «The United Kingdom of Great Britain  and  Northern  Ireland and the USA».

Цели урока: Активизировать навыки монологических высказываний, систематизировать знания о странах  изучаемого языка,   реалиях, людях этих стран. Научить составлять mind – maps и Синквейн

Ход урока

1   Мотивационная беседа.    Good morning.

        Dear students! We have read and discussed a lot of texts about Great Britain and the United States of    America. The countries are similar, because they speak the same language, but they are quite different in traditions, ways of life. Let’s compare these two countries.

        Let’s begin with   Great Britain. Let’s make a mind – map for it (mind map – ассоциация темы с определенными понятиями, реалиями, а затем расшифровка беседы)

        You write the name in the centre, and your associations around.

        What is the UK associated with in your mind?

T. – Well, you named the things that are really British. Let’s speak about them.

1 What   traditions of Great Britain do you know? What can you say about special royal traditions?

P1   Christmas traditions are very interesting in Great Britain.  They celebrate Christmas on the 25 of December, but before   the celebration the decorate streets, the shop windows, the houses. Very family put a Christmas на дверь. Children go around in the neighborhood and sing Christmas rhymes, People decorate Christmas trees, prepare presents, send cards, prepare charismas dinner.  Roast turkey and Christmas pudding are traditionally on the table in every family.

P2   There are some very old traditions in GB. The Lord Chancellor of the House of Lords sits on a wool sack, a big red cushion with wool inside it. It is a very old tradition; it started in the 14 century, symbolizing the importance of wool to the British economy at that time.

P3   Swan upping is a very interesting tradition too.

T. Name some places of interest of the UK. Which of them would you visit if you were in Britain?

P1   tells about Stonehenge.

P2   I would visit Big Ben and the Tower of London if I were in Great Britain. For me, they are the symbols of the UK.

       Big Ben a world famous clock is called after Ben Hall who took part in the construction of the Clock Tower and had a very loud voice.

       The Tower of London was a fortress, royal palace, a prison it is a museum now. There are a lot of ravens there. A legend says that without them the Tower will fall. Special men feed them.

T. – How do they call those special men?

 -- Beefeaters.

T3 – Name the world famous British.

A. Bell, Prince Charles, Britney Spears, David Beckham, Churchill, the Queen, Sherlock Holmes, A. Christy.

T4 -   What is the name of the British Queen? When is her birthday?  

         Who will be the next king or queen of the UK? Why?

P1 – Elizabeth the 2 is the British Queen. She has two birthdays. Her real birthday is on 21 April   and they have a special day, celebrating Queen’s birthday on the second Saturday in June.   They have a special ceremony called trooping the color.

P2 – The next king of the UK will be Prince Charles. He is the eldest son of the queen, he inherits the title.

T – That’ll do. Now let’s have a short test on the UK.   Listen and choose the right answer.

Let discuss it. What can you say about people who contribute to the glory of the USA?

P1 – Henry Ford was a man who transformed the world. The car he built changed the lives of people everywhere.      

P2 – Ernest Hemingway was the most famous American writer, his books «The Old Han and the Sea», «The Sun Also Rises» and was made in to films. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954

P3 – Walt Disney was an American artist and film producer. He was famous for his animated cartoons. Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto are his most famous characters.

P4 – The USA is the country leader because the American got the most of the Nobel Prizes.

T. – What American places of interest can you name? Which of then would you visit if you were in the USA?

P1 – I would visit New - York, and see its skyscrapers if I were in the USA.

P2 – If I were in the USA I would visit Disney lend and Hollywood.

P3 – If I went to the USA I would visit Washington and see presidents’ memorials there.

T – What Holidays of the USA and the UK are similar?

      What are the special holidays in the USA?

P1 – Halloween, Christmas, Mother’s and Father’s Days, Easter are celebrated both in the USA and the UK.    

         But there are same special holidays in the USA: Thanksgiving Day, President’s Day.

T. – What is the name of the American President? How old is he? What kind of the person do you think he is?

T. – Now let’s summarize what we hake told about let’s write in short. Синквейн – это пятистишие

      4 строка – 4 слова (описание к теме)
